Thats what I think

BRING IT BACK, BUT MAKE IT OPTIONAL

IF YOU HAVE TO MAKE EXCUSES ABOUT NOT WANTING TO PLAY FOR YOUR STATE, YOU ARE A CHEESE!!!

Yo Junior, I hope Buck's dosen't get one of those mysterious injuries around S of O time. It must be pretty inspiring playing for the Allies.

Agree on Carey, but I wonder what 'Fat Eddie's' influence would be now that he's in charge of all things Nathan.

LOL YEAH MAKES ME WONDER

CHEAP SHOTS AT POOR EDDIE... UNBELIEVABLE! YOU ALL WANT HIM AS YOUR PRESIDENT! AND YOU KNOW IT!

HIS LOYALITY IS SECOND TO NONE, AND THE MAN CAN GET/DO ANYTHING HE WANTS

YOU ARE A CHAMPION ED!

Bring it back but get rid of this allies team ****. SA and VIC are the only ones serious about it anyway. Haven't seen WA put up a decent effort in a long time. Let NSW play QLD, letting them draw from tassie or something.

Bob

I think State of Origin has run its race. Its all about the clubs now. Not like rugby league where the Qld v NSW is such a huge event.

Yeah I'd like to see it back. Even without some of the stars who are always injured for SOO games  there have been some fantastic matches. I think it would be a shame to lose it altogether.

Wasnt it pretty obvious that nobody really supported it?
Thats why it went in the first place!

why would anyone think anything has changed??

Dont compare it to League - there the club game is small, SOO is big - we are the other way around, and frankly, I'd MUCH rather it our way!

Ted Whitten would turn in his grave with some of these comments

We do not have an international game and therefore State of Origin is the highest level to play at except for those lucky enought to be in a grand final.

if players don't want to play then if they say they are injured they miss their next club game as if it wasn't for SOO they would have missed a game anyway

SOO football has seen some magnificent games, where the skill level was awesome.

91-94 the games were fantastic and some of the ones in the 80's were huge as well.

The problem with the club compe***ion now is that all clubs have players from all over Australia and therefore that inter-state rivalry is somewhat diluted.

We miss the chanc for once a year to see Jarman and Wanganeed link up or McLeod kick it to Tredrea or Ottens

SOO only went downhill because the AFL withdrew support by hight ticket prices and stupid programming times.

THe game in 93 was on at 4pm or something in Melbourne - Stupid

SA v VIC almost always plays to a full house at Football Park and if programmed right in Victoria (eg Friday night at Colonial) would also have a full house.

I say bring back SOO and lets rekindle the p***ion that Kerley Austin Whitten Glenndening and Brown etc worked so hard to create

At leat then if your team is doing crap you have something to look forward to.

BRING IT BACK

Your looking back at the days of state leagues and no national league. Of course if there were no Eagles or Dockers clubs I would be very p***ionate about a WA side but the fact is that intestate rivalry is now a weekly thing.

If WA were to play VIC at Subi I wouldn't go if I were given a free ticket even though I am an Eagles member and never miss a match.

It is little honour for a player now where it once was. Playing for the Eagles is a far greater honour than playing for WA, ask any WAFL player who they would rather play for.

i just cut and pasted most of this from my post re SOO v international games (why two polls on very very similar issues?). a SOO match next year would be as popular as the doggies v freo match this weekend.

Australian Rules Football State Of Origin is a joke and should stay gone. Sure we might all remember thrashing SA in 89, but really, no one cares. Terry Wallace has a winge the other week saying that SOO should return. Maybe his opinion would have been different if the dogs didn't get pumped by the Blues that week.

We cannot go a weekend without real football, that is, the home and away season. The only reason it's popular in NRL is because their home and away season is not as exciting (but don't get me wrong, I do like league).

And would all the best players play? Of course not. Players wouldn't miss a game for their club, but to miss SOO, as if they care. If they did, they wouldn't all pull out.

I like the International Rules series, and the crowds prove its popularity. Whether it stays or goes I'm not overly concerned, just don't bring back State Of Origin.

But wouldn't you like to see a WA team with a good chance of winning ?

Think of Farmer, Pickett, Hay, Chick etc turning out for the WA side

Great post jars said it all.
Frodo- You are the classic example from Perth of the brainwashed eagles is the state team mentality. They are not W.A - a % of their players are from interstate. That anyone can think playing for a club (any club) is higher than a state is very , very sad.
To get it going it needs to have commitment from everyone the public don't want to see 2nd rate games played by players that don't care.
To that end do the following- injured players will iss the next club game. Stops the Ben Cousins injured on the weekend but booked a holiday down south 3 weeks before rubbish.
What motivates players these days? Money- so pay the players a decent wage for playing. Also allow the clubs for all state of origin players to add $30,000 bonus not included in the salary cap. This would make players very keen to play.
