GoGo Gadget, you're not alone mate RE: Dakota - I've been there at least 50 times in my sad, tasteless, life and not once have I been there and not seen a brawl involving at least 5 blokes.

I got kicked unconscious there by four incredibly tough blokes once. But you know, being a 5'7 70kg powerhouse, I suppose I just naturally intimidate blokes. :)

One night I was in a cab coming home from the city down Maroondah highway, and as we got to Dakota, there was no shit at least 15-20 blokes brawling right across a 6 lane road, on the median strip, on the footpath etc.

It's just a shithole

It's a shithole alright. But I have pretty much grown up in Ringwood, I graduated high school there and I pretty much know half the people in the place anyway. I have honestly never had trouble there until these bunch of knobs thought they were tough guys.

Regardless of the place I go, is it to much to ask that I don't have to be concerned that some coward is gonna hit me from behind? Honestly, I would love to square up one-on-one to the little shit that did it.. He can have his bottle, he'd need it..

Ringwood is ace from Sunday lunchtime to Friday afternoon. It's a shithole from Friday evening til Sunday morning.

You an Aquinas boy?

Dakota.

Oh dear....

It could be worse, he could have gone to the Pool Room in Ferntree Gully...

I can admit to doing that now because I'm overseas and no one can track me down and bash me for my rampant boganism, but gee whiz that place was a festy dive.

Never went to Dakotas - for some reason we always got diverted to that 'Daisy's' dump instead? That place was pretty average too.

Went to Dakota a couple of times, and somehow avoided trouble on both occasions, admittedly I stayed up against the wall all night and didn't so as much as look the wrong way. Saw about 4 or 5 scuffles though. It's amazing that it hasn't been shut down.

My favourite aspect of the place? The ultra violet lighting that allows you to see the various amounts of semen stains on everyone's jeans. Creepy. Yet revealing.

Don't go out as much as i used to (i pretty much have the social life of someone that's married with a child..... even though that is NOT the case :D), but still do some social outings here and there.

I'm more comfortable in a home party atmosphere, than i am at a club or whatnot. Some pubs are alright, but i prefer those that are out of the way and not so popular. Not so much for the environment OR the chicks on display, i just want to get in and get out ASAP.

Today's young generation of violence started 10+ years ago when they were pushing & shoving at Wiggles concerts :p

Warragul Sportsbar, ftw.

1x Guaranteed Fight out the front.

Awesome smoking area.

You won't get your drink spiked because no-one will waste drugs.

There are plenty of drugs.

It's pretty much the best place in the world.

anyone whos been there will shoot me the shit down here.

I reckon the violence got worse when they introduced the anti-smoking laws. Everyone gets twice as pissed, and then when they finally go out for a smoke, everyone is just standing around in crowded areas, drunk as hell. Its not a stretch to predict fights will start when you cram 50 drunk young blokes into a small area.

I used to live there! Every Thursday night.. Never saw one fight.. Mind you It was when I was 18-19 and shit wasn't quite as rough as it was now..

I reckon its more than that.. These little bastards think they can drink twice as much as they actually can and for some reason theres a mentality that when your with your mates, its tough to smash a bloke who's lacking backup.. Fairly average behavior if you ask me.. Considering 9 times out of 10 the poor bloke that cops the hiding would towel them up 1 on 1

Well, your group of mates are generally good blokes and don't start any shit.

What can you say really, there's just a lot of ********s out there. Most people have had their agro moments in life, but gangbashing and kicking people on the deck when they've already had enough is a different story altogether.

I used to love it. I could go out, have a good time and drink way too much as I knew that I don't get violent or display any adverse tendencies.

In the past couple of years, on the time I do go out, Ive noticed that there is a more violent edge. Fights everywhere. ****wits marauding around.

Twice in the past month, Ive been walking in town at about 2am and noticed someone's T-shirt (the increasing number of w***ers have those t-shirts with messages on them, so its only natural that you will read some). Anyway both times, the jerkstains in white shoes and 4kgs of hair gel stopped me looking for a fight as i was reading his shirt. They took it as me eyeing them off for a fight. Both times I laughed them off. There just seem to be lots more blokes looking for fights.

is it just me or is there a higher proportion of w***ers at places these days? The guys who spend their every waking hour trying to impersonate Justin Timberlake. The girls whose mission appears to be obnoxious as possible with that incessant high pitched squeal everytime a song they know is played or they see one of their casual acquaintances.

I really just prefer to stay home these days. I don't really want to spend time with Timberlake impersonators anyway. And I no longer see the attraction in $7 beers and mind numbing 'music', or $60 taxi rides home or those shit nights where you have to stay out till 4am even though you wanted to go home at 10pm.

I'd much rather save my money, read a book, watch a doco, get trashed at home with friends.`

Im 24 and lots of people my age seem to be saying the same thing. They had fun going out the first few years, but now most places have been seen.

Your thoughts?

I couldn't agree more.
I hate it nowadays. I would rather stay home or go to a mates for a beer. I'm 24 as well and I just can't be arsed going out when I know I'll have a shit time and there will be trouble more often than not.

My misses is 20 and she still enjoys heading out but even her enjoyment is waning.

I'm starting to turn. It's ****ing hectic these days, I'll tell you what happened last night.

I went out for a few drinks near the city with a mate of mine and got into two situations where I could have got jumped pretty good. I saw this dude I know, not really well, but we had a few differences to sort out and while chatting, his mate just throws a punch and misses me but knocks my hat off. I wanted to smack the ****, but it was 6 on 2 and I know when to walk away.

The other one was more ****ed up. We were walking and suddenly this car zooms past and then reverses and jumps out screaming shit. He was obviously drugged out to the max. He starts abusing the **** out of my mate and myself and starts blaming us for throwing hsit on his car.

WTF? we were walking home dude. He starts throwing punches, a couple landed. He was bigger than me, probably 10 kgs on me. I dont fight, I dont have a strong punch, but I am very agile and flexible which counts a shitload in these situations. He probably threw 10 punches and landed 2. I didnt throw a single but tried to calm the ****er down. His mate gets out of the car and had a smirnoff bottle in his hand, which pissed me off because I knew what was gonna happen.

He was acting like he wanted to stop his mate, but when my mate pushed the other guy off me, he tried to bottle me but I blocked it (barely) but the bottle smashed on my arm/shoulder, luckily it didnt affect me, bruise only.

I'm starting to think it's a shit idea to go out without 4-5 blokes on my side.

In that situation you can always arm yourself with your shoe.

Im serious, if that happens again and you have nothing to defend yourself, reach down and pull off either one shoe or both. If worst comes to worst you can hurl a shoe at that mugs face which if it hits will probably stun him or hurt him enough for you to make a get away, and plus you can run faster without shoes on.

You can also take off your belt and use the buckle.

I have to say I've never been a huge club fan, only ever known a small circle of friends and I'm never the one who suggests going to a club.

I'm 24 now and my fiancee is 20, she loves the clubs sometimes so I go to keep her happy and plus I enjoy it when I'm out with her. I guess it just depends on the company you have, but we'll have a few drinks and dance for a while and we're both satisfied with the night. Luckily she doesn't have ******** friends, so if a bunch of us are out as a group it all goes pretty smoothly.

Generally I love to go out, but spending 10 hours at a club each weekend just doesn't do it for me. A party with 10-15 people or a BBQ with good drinks is more enjoyable for me, and I'm very thankful that I found someone who is basically on the same level because I could never stand one of those party-all-the-time girls for too long.

There's always something you can do if you don't want to cross paths with too many idiots, or at least increase your chances of not crossing paths with them. There's this place in the US that I love, called D&B's, basically like a "friendly" casino but you can still get alcohol there and you wont leave with a gambling addiction. Some might consider it lame but I'm also pretty happy seeing a movie, going to a restaurant that my fiancee and I like or even just walking and talking. If you have the right attitude and the right someone/group of friends, then you'll create a good time no matter what.

Just to touch on the topic of the "********s" though, I did encounter one when out with my girl and one of her friends. We were in the city and in an area that would definitely be considered safe, I was wearing this shirt that she bought me as a gift that has "KING" on the front of it. Never had any shirt related dramas before but this tool couldn't leave it alone.

First thing I remember was hearing him say "King. Hey king!" I had a feeling it was bad news but wasn't too worried. He then said something like "You a king? Walking around with two girls, you think you a king?" By now he was pretty much in my face but not really making any moves, just blocking my way, but I could just sense it could turn very ugly and was trying to just keep my cool about everything.

There was a pretty good chance that I could have taken him but there was also a chance that he could have taken me or maybe had a knife. Who knows, right? We all tried to keep walking but then he starts hassling my girl's friend, so I took her hand and basically just tried to hurry her along. My girlfriend was in front of me and doing her best not to freak out, I told her quietly just to keep walking. After about 2-3 more minutes the idiot backed off away from the friend and just ranted from a distance as we walked away, it was a relief that he lost interest because I had no idea where it was going and if he touched my girlfriend I just know it would have gotten very much out of hand.

Anyway, that's my 2c's on the matter.
