So you wont start with Ablett, but you will get Judd even though he misses the 1st 3 rounds?:confused: Wouldnt that put you behind the 8-ball even more so.

LOL Gold.

I'm getting Bartel in place of Ablett....LOL...and hopefully Bartel learns to kick straight...

Anyone going for Captain Cameron Ling as a smokey?

Sorry, should've made that more clear.

As far as I'm concerned there is a Ablett vs Judd debate for the best player, in particular between me and a few mates. So I usually don't get Ablett at the start because I'm really hoping he breaks down.

No chance I'll get Judd until minimum round 5.

Weird theory I know, but it's one of the rules i set myself in SC. "Don't get players you hate, or hate how they play" - usually that encompasses Ablett, but when he's that good you have to end up with him.

That comes down to whether you are going for overall or league wins. I usually start out going for overall placement, and that sets me in good stead for league games, but a few things don't go right and that's when winning the league steps in!

If you were going for league wins I would almost still wait for the 5 rounds to see if you can get Judd any cheaper. You may as well? It gives your rookies an extra chance to jump up in price, and you might even be able to pick him up cheaper!

Plus, Judd has Adelaide and Geelong for his first two games. Adelaide has always been a bother for him.

As the rounds he is suspended in are non SC playing rounds then surely you will simply sacrifice a trade. A lock should be in from the start IMHO

It's a fair point from a league wins perspective. Most of the advice on here assumes a ranking goal, rightly or wrongly. I often think that advice should be clear which is the goal in mind.

I try to go for both goals ... overall ranking without sacrificing league finals where possible. If ever in a year I find myself ranked top 10 after round 10 then I am sure $50K would be enough to re-set my goals :)

Yea.I'm only interested in the leagues. Last year i deliberately kept a lot of $$$ in the first three rounds and was last on my main ladder end rd3. However I finished 2nd at season end on that ladder.

Quite correct. Because if He goes forward they have the depth to cover and the oppos can't afford to drop the tag.

My issue will be season end. 22 games + finals is a long season. Short break. This is the fourth for Geelong. My gut feel is that they will drop off at the tail. Still, if they arein your side it is only one trade to change things.

The big problem for the Cats players last year was injury. Ottens was a disaster and shouldn't really be risked at the price they asking for him this season. Chapman at 600k doesn't look a good option given his history with hamgstrings. There is a lot of talk about Steve Johnson but there appear to be multiple options at a similar price to Dog. Ablett, Corey, Selwood and Bartel normally finish quite strongly even though Jimmeh was a little inconsistent last year in comparison with say, 2007 when he gunned it.

If the Cats have a better injury run than last year - which is a fair chance IMO, then the Ablett becomes a bit more of a lock.

regards,

REB

for the first time, im going to be starting with ablett. Finished in the top 2000 last three years starting without ablett, but has been a nightmare trying to get him in as soon as possible as the injury doesn't come early enough and he exceeds scoring expectations time and time again.
Hopefully this might be the difference for me this year and break into SC elite category

So he's $10K less than we thought ... $744K. Only $20K > last year.

Is that enough to make anyone change their mind?
At this stage I'm going to have him in, It's only 20 k extra like you said so it just means I'll have 20 k less in the kitty for those early injuries and/or upgrades

Back to the old Ablett chessnut lol. Overall ranking is far more important than league wins, it's the players that are no good that go for league 'pride' :p

$50k would be fantastic. As you know I was 11th for a week and then 12th for 2 weeks then it all came crashing down and fell to 114th.

We had this same discussion about Ablett last year, with all the non-Ablett players saying he the same thing as this year. He is only 30k (i think) more than last year and he was well worth it last year. I will see how my team balances with and without Ablett but I will be most certainly leaning towards taking Ablett as it paid dividends last year and I can't see why it won't again this year.

i am picking my team around abblet then swaping him out and keeping the cash, (how ever if he starts like last year i'll make that call after the NAB cup) this should give me the best of both,:D if that happens:confused:

Yep, will have him from the get go.

Two trades are too valuable to spend trying to get him into the side (Which is probably what it will take) even if he does dip in price.

That coupled with his perma-captain status and going on previous years performances make him a lock.

Reduce your 3/4 premium mid to cheaper midrange value player - my fan planner took a real hit and cuts were made all over the place unfortunately!
Think i had to find 230k odd. Decisions Decisions, but oh well at least the pricing seems to be challenging everyone.

I've gone with playing 2 rookies in my midfield with Ablett and a solid team around him. It is definately affordable.

Yeah I've got this set up as well, helps make up for the lack of decent cash cows else where. But have got a few mid pricers everywhere else to cover that.

my number 1 rule before i selected my team last year, ablett and reiwoldt are the first 2 selected, ended up picking neither! im not falling for my own mind games again this year!!!

The midfield rookie depth is impressive so this strategy can be acheived without it being a risky one. Obviously a lot depends on the NAB Cup but it's safe to say that there will more than enough midfield rookie prospects to make this acheivable. Similar to last year a Starting midfield consisting of two of Rich, Otten, Danger and Anthony was quite comfortable.
