I only read the first 5 or 6 pages but felt I should comment on the Dockerland Issue as I am a big fan of Dockerland and have been posting there intermitantly for about... 5, 6 years? don't know. a long time. Under the name of "Sox".

the first reason it is worthwhile, is that threads don't usually go for 52 pages. Shane shuts down posts so that mindless drivel doesn't clog up the site. The information you want is up to date and easy to find.

The second reason can be evidenced by the first few pages of this thread.
I'll paraphrase as I don't much like quoting:
"dockerland sucks"
"no it doesn't"
"haven't we done this before"
"sorry i didn't mean to be rude"
"nah it's ok, i know what you mean"

as a dockers fan, do I need to read this? do I want to read this.
every man has a right to his opinion, but not everyone writes for a newspaper.
why? because the average person doesn't give a damn what the average punter has to say.
Dockerland is a filter for useful information and insightful opinion. Anyone can put in a thought, but pointless white noise, bickering, enraged and depressed self deprivation (ie: docker sledging) and repeated ideas are removed.

I have had posts deleted before, and I don't care why. The site has been providing me with the best information, the funniest dialogue, and the most insightful fan diagnosis year after year.
it has done so BECAUSE of Shane, not in spite of him.

As far as I am aware, Dockerland has only one moderator: Shane Richmond.

the site has a few registered bloggers and no other official affiliates.

There are some posters that are allowed more freedom of expression than others. They are not all Shane's friends, nor do they all agree with Shane.
They are privilaged because they have been contributing to the site for a significant period of time and have earned respect by consistantly contributing in an intelligent and considered way.

in other words, those people that have proved they can express their opinions eloquantly and with out flooding the site with useless material are rewarded by being allowed to contribute more freely.

and as many others have said, if that doesn't work for you then don't go there.

But I will continue to turn to Dockerland for all the latest Dockers news, because the message board gives me more comprehensive information on my favourite team than all the other online resources combined.

And it does so with a good sense of humour.

The 52 pages have been across a number of years. Why should someone be able to decide when a discussion is over, and what would you consider the perfect amount of pages in a thread? Two? Five? Fifteen?

Threads at wehavethepassion don't usually get past 1 page but that doesn't make it superior.

Obviously you and Shane agree on what is mindless drivel which makes it a good site for you. I would consider years of biscuit debates mindless dribble, but each to their own.

Information here is easy to find too, the thread at the top of each page is the most recent, but obviously threads start at page one so if you want to read the most recent posts in this thread or any other just start at the last page. Obviously most threads don't run 52 pages.

At bigfooty you can post anything you like aslong as you're not aggressive or insulting anyone. The moderator's here are more likely to debate you if they disagree with your point than delete your post.

My idea differs to Shane's on what is sledging though. Saying the coach or a certain player did X, Y or Z wrong I wouldn't consider sledging, but any criticism of almost any aspect of the footy club is frowned upon at DL. Once again, if you are of the same opinion as Shane you'll enjoy Dockerland but if you want to discuss the real issues then DL probably isn't suitable.

Again that's perspective. I'd say all information regarding the club is posted here just as promptly as DL, with the added bonus that it is unedited. The regular training reports provided by posters here don't happen on DL (as far as I'm aware).

But I will continue to turn to Dockerland for all the latest Dockers news, because the message board gives me more comprehensive information on my favourite team than all the other online resources combined.

I'd say that was true in the past but that the regulars have slowly moved away from Dockerland. The traffic is definately down and the regular posters are predominantly not those who were regulars 3 or 4 years ago.

hi. i moved to perth about 6 months ago to work and caught on real quick that i needed a football team to enjoy my winters. my friend put me on to dockerland 2 days ago so its been wild threading thru this bashing of it. no doubt any site that can slam out blogs like the linked one below has a place?

i really am looking forward to learning about ozzy rules and about freo rules in particular. i see i have to make a posting quota here b4 i can start a thread so i'll have to wait for my first round of dumb questions on the freo board. so far on both this site and dockerland i have noticed a real sense of fun that is similar to what i had back home with my Redsox fans. for the moment i'm just pretending that the other local team is the new york yankees to get the hatred started.

Howdy, I'm another Dockerlander (like Sox) who has been moved to post here. I post there under the totally ridiculous "Dolphin" username.

I agree with most of the criticisms regarding DL I've read here aside from the personal attacks on shane. I agree that its too edited at times, I agree that sometimes some interesting stuff gets deleted and that it can be a hard to fathom the rules (if they exist).

I'm not sure its always the rose coloured views some think and I definitely don't agree the site editing makes shane a valid target for any of the vitriol on here.

DL provides a niche that no other site does and that is why it works. It wont for some, and that is fine, but I guess that's not the aim or we would have seen it change.

I keep going there because I know I don't have to put up with the WA or Vic media garbage being thrown in my face again and again by people who follow the same club as I do. For the most part I HATE reading the coach/club/CEO bashing that goes on. Don't we get enough from Hackdorn, Barra, Duff et al. If I wanted that I would start buying the Worst or the Sun Slime again.

The fact that some of the more negative stuff gets thrown aside does keep me going back, knowing that, for the most part, it won't be there.

Noone agrees with everything someone else thinks so there'll always be controversy when someone starts ruling things in or out. BF has less of that, but, as a consequence it has more of the idiocy we've all seen in threads here. Wherever you draw the line you'll upset someone. BF allows it, which is great, and therefore the need for that balance is met.

I've been reading stuff on here for about 18 months without posting. I honestly can't tell you if it's because I can't be bothered arguing my point with another Freo fan or other club troll, or whether its because so many of the posters here end up typing what I was going to say anyway.

I read both because they're both different and, especially at this time of year, there's precious little else.

Either way, both sites serve a purpose and the people who run them should be congratulated rather than villified.

Thats my 2 cents.
