The Dockers have apparentally failed in their appeal.

"Fremantle fined

From our wire services
17dec01

FREMANTLE has been fined and will lose a pick in next year's national draft as punishment for a salary cap breach.

The Dockers also failed in today's bid to reverse the club's preclusion from tomorrow's pre-season draft.

Dockers officials met the AFL for more than three hours today only to receive the bad news.

A fine of $54,415 had been imposed for breaching the salary cap in the 2001 season.

The club was also stripped of its third pick in the 2002 national draft.

Its first and second picks in that draft will also be removed from the club if it breaches the salary cap in the meantime.

The club had been told it did not have room under its salary cap to participate in tomorrow's pre-season draft.

Club officials wanted that overturned but the bans will be maintained, leaving prospective draft pick Fabian Francis out in the cold."

Damn it !!!

What will the next move be, will the dockers accept the result or take the AFL to court??

I wish that one way or another the AFL would come out and justify their claims that for 2002 the dockers would be over the salary cap, after getting conflicting reports in the media and from the club. The whole thing is a very dodgy situation.

Its not good for the league for the AFL to endorse cheating either.

I heard on the radio just before that some of the senior Freo players were willing to take pay cuts so that Fabian can be selected tomorrow. They said it looks like he has a club now...I don't know what's going on or if that is true
