Great game comming up. :D

Definately. I think it would be fair to say that CC was comprehensively outcoached last year in the Friday night game. By the end of the first quarter, they'd taken about 15 shots from 50 over the heads of the "screen defense" we employed.

This week will be the test. I think if we can do well and win the game well, the season will be setup and we'll be setup for a top 4 birth. It will show if our gameplan has flaws or not, and if CC has improved. Without it, and i think we'll be staring down the barrell of scraping into the 8.. thats how important these games in victoria are against the weaker teams.

No doubt.

We ambushed the dees. I dont think we can read too much into the maggies game other than we kept going until the end.

Sheedy will be looking to out coach CC.
Admittedly the players do the work but CC has to set the scene.

We are mentally tougher. Thanks to the Tigers game.
Our guys have to understand there will be more pressure on the bombers players from there supporters at TD. They are going te very nervous knowing there season is on the line.

We have the cattle. Travel is a factor.
Sheedy will be pulling moves, CC's clacker will be twiching but imo he is on the cusp of earning respect.

Just saw an Essendon add on T.V...they're using the old "Get in to the Pressure Cooker" build up again. I just hope Connolly keeps his mouth shut and focuses on the game ahead!

Agree.

Longmuir trained well on Tuesday Night and will play, Walker did not train and will definately miss. IMO Longmuir will come in for Walker no other changes.
Polak trained well and is close to returning as did Schofield. Hayden did not train nor did Dodd both will have to make their way back via the WAFL.
Other players vying for selection are Gilmour, Peake, Schammer, McManus, Dunn, Wood, Murphy & Warren.

According to AFL.com Walker was cleared on Tuesday night of any structural damage to the leg and is still a chance to play.

Boost for Freo

What is with Roger?? I read an article from early March saying that he was about to return during the practice matches - either with Souths or straight into the seniors. But since then - nothing.

Yesterday I watched that Rd 19, 2003 game v Norf @ MCG (the Heritage Round 1 pointer), and seeing some of his dashing runs out of defence... the guy's got talent. That was obviously more than just a regulation broken leg.

(Interestingly neither Croad nor Simmonds did a thing during that game, although T-Lo bobbed up in that last quarter with a couple of ripper marks and very important goals. Seeing him run around jumping and hugging everyone in sight... shame there was no place for him with us.)

Not sure about JLo for Walker. Maybe, if the Bombres play a tall team (is Hille appealing the suspension?), otherwise the net change over 2 weeks will be 211 and Sir Robert in for Walker and Schammer. That's 2 talls for 2 smalls. CC normally doesn't like to make that much of a change to the team balance. Indoors at the Dome you can either get away with going tall (good marking conditions) or need to go small for the extra pace on the dry, hard ground. I'd be surprised if that was all he did, although, I can't think of anyone else who'd deserve to be dropped.

Maybe the trio of Thornton, Webster and Mundy should be checked out ..... has a tag team kneecapping taken place?.

If we beat essendon I will be extremley suprised.. I don't like our chances as they have always had the wood over us.

I will be a happy man come sunday if we win!

Have to agree on this one. Essendon are our bogey team, a mountain we must climb to become a successful team. I am seeing some of our supporters get far ahead of themselves in the past week and I certainly hope our players don't think that way otherwise we could receive a hiding.

I'm tipping Essendon to win, though I'm still quietly optimistic, I still think Essendon have it over us...particularly if Connolly gets sucked into the pressure cooker again!

we will win this one - I reckon the leadership group will be reminding everyone of that final and of last year. The caffiene is installing a memory

I reckon past games aren't really relevant (just look at Collingwood) unless it affects the player's confidence, which I don't think it would. So I think Fremantle can win, but there's still a chance they won't, however I'd tip them to win (maybe just because im biased ;) ). I'd love to see them smash Essendon like they did the Pies...

I'd like to see Gilmour come in if Walker misses. We need to replace the pace. And also a defender rather than a midfielder as Walker does play a defensive role in the team.

And Sandi out for Jlo.

I think it's doubtful Sandi will be out this week. I'd think the development of both he and Dylan Smith are very important to the new style of play and the future of the team. It's important these guys develop with the team.

Hille has been suspended for 1 week after an incident in the VFL, although they are confident of an appeal. They want/need the extra tall for this game.

So the inclusion of Sandi would be important either way. If Sandi stays in, JLo can float forward more reguarly and be an extra tall target up forward. It makes it difficult for them to match up.

Matthew Lloyd came out and said the following:

"I think their improvement has come with Pavlich and McPharlin going up forward, they're now just about the longest-kicking side in the competition. This will be the first time we've played them with that style."

With Polak coming back next week, the spines looking mighty good! They're not just looking good on paper anymore!

Agreed.

I think the match ups this week are the key, we should win this game if we are going to be a Top 4 team this year, they have Hird out, & we all know what he is capable of.

Haddrill v Lloyd
Walker v Lovett
Mundy v Bolton
Thornton v Lucas
Grover v Rioli
Bell v J Johnson (tag)
Peverill v Hasleby (he will be tagged)
Bradley (if fit) v Pavlich
Fletcher v McPharlin
McVeigh v Farmer
Zantuck v Medhurst

Fletcher could hurt us with his rebound, so Luke's defensive skills must be very good this week. Medhurst must keep his cool v Zantuc, as he is a loose cannon. The match ups look good on paper for us, I'd be SUPER disappointed if we went down to a bottom 4 team, our confidence is up, we have out structures right, why wouldn't we win?

Simply put.....WIN BOYS - then smash Hawks next week by 20 goals with Polly back!

but who do I tip in my tipping comp? should I break my rule of 'never tip the dockers away'.

Time to start being arrogant & confident - of course u should tip Freo away this week, if we don't win it would be a joke, & a step backwards from our form we have shown in past 2 weeks. I think this club has stepped forward & will show that again this week. I can see us winning as many as 14 games this year, which will put us close to the Top 4., injuries must be kind though.

The Dons have had a knack of getting over Freo on the big occassions when the club has really thought it was in a position to prove it was the real deal.

Hopefully this will not be another of those occassions.

I see my campaign of the pessimistic has stopped yet :p

Definately a danger game and one in which we need to prove ourselves that we are the real deal not just over-hyped from 1 player moving forward

I noticed that Webster was named in the centre for this weekends game. I find that move interesting (whether it will happen or not) due to the fact that he was clearly one of the few dockers to stand up against the bombers and perform well against the bombers in the elimination final.

The bombers have already come out saying it will be a physical encounter, claiming Fremantle have been winning from uncontested posessions this year. I'm not sure if I agree with that over the past couple of weeks. I think with the likes of Siegert, Grover and Webster (all fringe players a few weeks back) standing up and showing some grunt, then the added inclusion of Carr and Black, the bombers could be in for a hard day at the office.

The challenge is to play out a physical game and still kick a big score!

Why?
McVeigh has owned Medhurst for a while, and Welsh loves playing on Farmer. Zantuck will take your third tall.

It'll be an interesting game - it's one of the ones that could go either way. I think we have the edge in our forward line, and match up okay on yours, but your midfield is a class above ours.

The game swings on the mental state of both sides.

Hmm very interesting move. I think i've prefer to see him lurking in the forward line though, as he seems to be extremely good over head, and have good general skills. However in the centre, he could be good.. hes HARD at it, unlike his lookalike.
