No. Won't be pushed out for Wallabies v Wales in June either. So much for having a 'multi-purpose' stadium...

Middle of the AFL season, they wont risk damage to the turf at this time. If it was the off season it would be a different story. On the other hand, you get to avoid the Melbourne winter weather so they can stop bitchin. 1 game of Union or League v 40 games of AFL. You do the math

I get why they don't do it, my point is more that the stadium could have been designed so that the stands could be moved without damage to the playing surface. From what I've seen Stadium Australia can be reconfigured to accommodate league or AFL without affecting the turf.

From what I understand of the Dockalnds stadium, there is a design problem with the underground car parking which meant that the thickness of the soil is not enough for the soil to retain heat. The soil gets very cold in the middle of a Melbourne winter, and cold weather triggers the grass to go dormant. So in winter the grass isn't really growing, just hanging in there. Therefore any damage to the grass in winter would be hard to overcome and get back to a good condition, so no moving the seats in during the AFL season.

The turf is affected at Stadium Australia. The wings have big rows of fake turf covering up the marks that are left where the stands roll out.

Even during summer for Melb Victory games they dont reconfigure the stands. They lose the seating in the pockets so for the amount of effort to get a smaller crowd in, there isnt any point.

ETIHAD STADIUM SEATING QUESTION
At non-ticketed matches, are there any Level 1 seats available (at General Admission price?)

I recall afew seasons ago, there would be an allocated bay at non-ticketed matches and if you were early enough you could go to the ticket box and ask for a Level 1 seat.

Is this still the case?

Cheers :thumbsu:

I paid about $30ish on the first tier for Carlton – Geelong two weeks ago. I was using a concession card, though. Maybe this helps.

what is the officially the highest and lowest attendance at the ground??

the lowest involves freo?

Given the site of Docklands stadium is underutilised, will the AFL, when it finally owns the place, sell it for redevelopment, & start again somewhere else?

Meanwhile, questions are being raised about the stadium's future at Docklands. The AFL will take ownership of the stadium, currently owned by a range of superannuation funds, in 2025 and possibly sooner.
There is speculation the AFL has considered options for the $1 billion asset on the prime CBD real estate site, including even moving to a new stadium site. ''Knowing who's involved with the AFL at the moment, I have no doubt that in securing title to the Etihad Stadium … it gives them access to options that they don't have if they don't own the building,'' Mr Kennett said.
''They could relocate anywhere. I am not saying that is what they are going to do, but they're going to get access to prime real estate which at the moment has a stadium on it which is not overly utilised,'' he said. ''That will be a decision both for the AFL and the clubs. The clubs will have a big say in this, I can assure you,'' he said.
Asked if the AFL had considered moving to a new stadium site, Patrick Keane from the AFL said: ''I couldn't answer a question for what we will do in 2025.''

To be fair that speculation has been a suggestion by Kennett and McGuire...nothing from AFL House to suggest its on the cards, and practically no one else has said anything.

Can you tell me exactly what food can be taken into the stadium? The last thing I want todo is waltz up there and have all my coke, burgers, chips and lollies confiscated.

I've never seen food confiscated, only glass bottles, cans, unsealed plastic bottles and of course anything containing alcohol.

Why can't they change the screens around level one to some nice LCD panels? Surely it isn't THAT expensive?
Their current screens are a discrace, always breaking into green fuzz during matches, being pixelated when your within 10 meters of them,

For Richmond home games at Etihad you are able to get a reserved seat behind the Richmond goals for same price as GA. I've always done this at the gate on game day. Guessing would be the same for other goals too (Gate 7 end)

Same with Melbourne Victory matches.

Etihad sponsorship extended thru to 2019 - does that have any implications for the suggested AFL takeover before 2025?

Can't see why not. The main gripe the AFL had with Etihad was that at the time the AFL's airline partner was Qantas. Now Virgin Australia is the AFL's airline partner, who have a partnership/codeshare with Etihad.

The Medallion Club is in a bit of a pickle.

Delaware North (current caterer) told MSL they want out. Tender was run. Compass won, yet no deal yet done as the commercials dont add up.

No one wants to cater for the Medallion Club!
