1. The capitalist program insists that the response to the pandemic must prioritize saving the financial markets over saving lives.

The socialist program insists that the response to the pandemic must prioritize saving lives over saving the financial markets.

2. The capitalist program asserts that pandemic policy must be driven by profit interests.

The socialist program advocates that medical policy must be guided by science.

3. The capitalist program advocates a program of “herd immunity,” allowing the virus to spread with as few restrictions as possible while vaccinations are produced and distributed.

The socialist program calls for all measures to impede virus transmission until the necessary number of people to stop community spread of the virus have been inoculated.

4. The capitalist program insists, in accordance with its “herd immunity” strategy, that factories and other workplaces be kept open for business.

The socialist program insists that all nonessential workplaces be closed down until inoculated workers can safely return to their jobs.

5. The capitalist program demands that schools be reopened, claiming falsely that there is little risk to students and teachers.

The socialist program, based on scientific evidence that schools are a major source of virus transmission, demands that schools remain closed until the pandemic has been brought under control.

6. The capitalist program seeks to restrict social expenditures aimed at counteracting the economic impact of the pandemic on the great mass of the people, while demanding that central banks provide unlimited support for the financial markets and large corporations.

The socialist program demands full income compensation to workers and small businesses for the duration of the crisis. The resources for this critical social rescue plan will be obtained through the immediate restitution of the trillions of dollars extended to the large corporations under the provisions of the CARES Act, and the expropriation of the pandemic profiteers who have made tens of millions and even billions of dollars as a result of unlimited Federal Reserve support for the financial markets.

7. The capitalist program promotes a policy of vaccination nationalism, restricting and opposing equitable distribution of vaccines throughout the world.

The socialist program, recognizing that the coronavirus can be eradicated only through a scientifically directed international strategy, calls for a globally coordinated inoculation

Point 1 is utterly wrong. Capitalism does not advocate saving markets over saving lives. socialism also does not advocate saving lives over production.

Socialists are so ******* dumb. What do you think an economy is?

Stop thinking of it as a monetary system and start thinking of it as the means of generating food, medical and everything else that sustains human life. People die when an economy collapses.

Might wanna tell donny trump and cuomo that.
what do they have to do with capitalism vs socialism? Trumps wealth is driven from bailouts, inheritance, legal threats and bilateral relationships. His governments agenda was to shut down trade and pick national champions and use loyalty tests and friendships to punish and support industries. he is incredibly anti capitalist.

what you are doing are taking things you dont like about a system and calling it capitalism. Who is making up definitions now.

See theres the dictionary definition of capitalism

and then what actually happens irl.....

just like communism is perfect in theory but fell flat on its face irl.....

all of those things you mention have continually happened in capitalist societies - therefore they are what happens irl in capitalism.

Thank you

People think capitalist economic theory is about a free for all. It's not.

If people bothered to read Wealth of Nations (and not a just one paragraph summary in their year 8 economic text) they would know Smith - the icon of laissez faire economics - believed some govt intervention would always be needed.

Why? Because what's good for companies isn't always what's good for the nation

There is no such thing as a capitalist society. capitalism exists in a society to varying degrees where a whole bunch of other stuff is going on. just like there is no such thing as an ice cream society. Ice cream exists in socieities to varying degrees but there is a whole bunch of other stuff happening as well. I dont blame the rise of trump on the presence of ice creams in america just cos i dont like ice creams (note i do like ice creams im not some weird anti ice creamer im just trying to make a point that would of worked a lot better if i used something other than ice cream).

capitalism is simply a system where people are allowed to keep the rents of the capital they create. The idea being that if they keep the rents then people will be incentivised to create more capital. All societies have that to a varying degree but a heap of other stuff is going on that capitalism or a lack thereof of capitalism has nothing to do with just like ice creams. Trump made most of his money through capital inherited. inherited capital is not created capital by the inheritor. Capitalism says nothing about the concept of inheritance. Nor does it say anthing about the nature of democracy or corporate lobbying, monopoly power or trade barriers. Its simply a notion of does a capital creater keep the capital rents or does he pay taxes on them or not recieve them at all. Thats it. People attribute people who support capitalism to also being in support of a lot of other things and then cos they dont have a word for it call all those things capitalist. Its wrong because everyone attributes something different to the associated group so it can never be an objective definition plus it takes away from the original definition.

i support capitalism admittedly with a utilitarian wealth constraint. But i also support banning private education, removing monopoly power, banning inheritance and imposing taxes for public goods like clean air. Im a capitalist.
