Watching When the Levees Broke - documentary on the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans.
JUst watched that too. Rather good.

It really amazes me how quckly things can descend into anarchy in such a short space of time without a few days of government. I know it will seem hard-hearted but there are so many useless people around. Fair enough if your on dialysis, old or disabled, but these able bodied people who cant go a few days without either dying or turning to looting seem a little pathetic to me.

Citizenfour is out and is really insightful if you've followed the Snowden story

there is a lot of silence in short bursts which is kinda weird, but watching them sit there as the size of what they are doing sinks in is some great viewing

Watched collapse and it was good, a lot of things I new but a couple of things I took out of it was Michael's theory is when we reach the point where there are to many humans (living a western lifestyle) we will regress back to having to grow our own food locally and any other luxury will be a premium. I've always felt there will be a mass wipeout of the human population ie, contagion or war.

The other thing is that he seems to have accepted the reality that no one really wants to change anything (or really knows what to do) and now he just concentrates on what makes him happy (his music).
He actually shot himself 6 months ago.

Broadly speaking, I think he is pretty much right. Peak Oil and the way governments treat debt and fiat currency will eventually bring the edifice undone. I like his point about the way Cubans now live with urban community farming. I think that will be a reality in future.

At the moment I'm rereading one of my favourite books, Walden by Henry David Thoreau, which is basically a philosophical treatise about "getting back to basics" from the late 19th century. I suspect 50 years from now my son will be living more like they did in the 19th century than the way we live now.

BBC Production on Formula 1...'The Killer Years'.

Total disgraceful era; they knew no better, but anyone who watches the last 3 minutes that doesn't get a chill up their spine hasn't a heart.
Watched this today after reading your recommendation yesterday. Great doco, eye opening to a sport I only have a passing interest in. Very moving and quintessential viewing for fans or admires of the sport, or any kind of tech advancement.
5 stars

Get on iview and check 'Autopsy on a Dream', bloody great 'lost' doco from the 60s about the construction and conception of the Sydney Opera House. Touches on the nature of Australian culture and supposedly put enough noses out of place when it came out that the BBC had it destroyed. 10/10.

For music fans, Dave Grohl's Sound City doco is pretty good. It's about the iconic recording studio, and some of the big bands who recorded there.
It also touches on the tech side of recording, particularly analog vs digital

Sound City does seem to have two halves to it. a. The history of Sound City b. A Grohl wank fest.
It's a pity that something that started telling a story of interest became a self-promoting yawn..........and don't mention McCartney.... :)

Watched Forks over Knives the other day and couldn't find an ounce of interest throughout. Stated the bleeding obvious over and again.

Ha, yeah, the last 20 or 30 mins is another Grohl infomercial (for that album). That's a bad omission by me, coz it annoyed me a bit at the time. I'll edit my post :D

What really got me was that driver who was trying to save the other driver who was burning. Can't recall his name but what a bloody hero. You could see his frustration that no one else seemed to give a shit. He was awarded a bravery medal for it too.

Strange times for that sport.

This is a great board...Just watched King of Kong, very good.

Funny how Billy Mitchell acted in this because it made him out to look like a real jerk by not turning up and refusing to play live (pretending to show his wife around rather than manning up like Steve). What about that Steve Sanders, what a sycophant! Telling Billy how Weibe had come in the restaurant on his own and when he was telling the camera how Weibe was an honourable man Billy was sitting next to him looking at him and daring him to say unlike him.

Want to know the hilarious bit? The director's said that Billy Mitchell is made to look like a MUCH better guy in the doco than he is in real life. Apparently he's a complete psycho control freak.

Plenty of athletes in popular sports who would go to the same levels as Mitchell to protect their reputations if they didn't have the media scrutiny on them.

Going to have a look at one that is floating about 'Holocaust-Night will Fall' which is a doc about the filming/film around the liberation of the Camps.

Havent watched this yet but unless Ive got the wrong end of the stick it seems to based around this doco which Hitchcock apparently had some part in editing back in the day,

Of gone a bit techy lately and 2 good one's are
