I'm glad that they are starting to get rid of those bland multi-venue stadiums. They're horrible.
Cincinnati's Riverfront Stadium, St. Louis' Busch Stadium, Philadelphia's Veterans Stadium and Pittsburgh's Three Rivers Stadium, were all built roughly at the same time (circa 1965-70) and look identical in design and shape (round). Baseball is still played at the first three, and Football is still played in Philadelphia. I think all of them are set to be replaced in the next 2-3 years.
For many years, these stadiums hosted football and baseball at the same time, sometimes simultaneously (particularly when the baseball teams made the playoffs, as all four did frequently).
Worse yet, they were all AstroTurf and still are (except Busch which has grass now). For gridiron games, they took the dirt out and filled the Astroturf in with "cutouts" of newer, less worn Astroturf (which for those who don't know what the stuff is like, is much more difficult to cut on, your feet get grabbed). And worse yet, Astroturf for baseball is much harder than for football, because there's no padding between it and the CONCRETE. OUCH! Consequently, blown-out knees are common.
If anyone here knows about the way baseball diamonds are setup and compare them to gridirons, you could see how they clash in terms of sight lines.
Baseball stadiums are horrible places to watch gridiron. Imagine watching gridiron played at the MCG.
Good riddance.
