Does benny get another year?

Haha all roads lead back to Tom Mitchell on this board these days, or so it would seem. Will personally be relieved when his situation is sorted either way.

On McGlynn, I don't know if he should get another year, he has played well since he came back in so I'd be OK with him being in the finals team but long term Papley will take his spot for sure.

Finals will have a strong say. Depending on the cap/ trade outcomes , he might be a necessity to keep, purely ad depth. I think he knows his days as a walk up start are over, however his experience will be handy if we have a few injury issues next year.

Absolutely not. I mean yeah he's doing OK at the minute but six goals ago he was in the reserves and I was wanting him as far away from the senior side as possible. Another twelve months, he's not going to get better. There's only one way this goes. We have Paps, we have Hewett, we have Gazza, and we've got Rose who could come in anyway. No need for Benny would just be carrying dead weight next year.

Agree with that. But posting mainly to congratulate you on being a Banyo Blood.

That's the reason I started following the Swans no Brisbane team at the time and they wore the jumper of my suburban team. The Banyo Bloods were a group of triers.

I'll hold final judgement to after the finals, but even taking into account his decent 2nd half against Norf and a good performance against the mustard witches hats, I think he has looked a bit off the pace this year. A no for me for now, but a good finals series could earn another season.

I agree with others that he is likely to retire if we do win the flag.

I love Benny. He grew up around where I did & I've followed his career from way back.

If anyone deserves a premiership it's him. He busts his guts & plays a team game. He gives the kind of pressure & determination which would certainly lift those around him. Ferocious tackler & willing to put himself on the line when needed. He's a tremendously hard worker & dedicated to his role within the club. He's also a shining example to the kids of how to carry yourself in the face of adversity and how to get the most out of yourself IMO.

Even given all of this, I think this is it for him in the senior side as a walk up start. It really hurts me to say it, I wish it wasn't so but if it came down to a choice of him or Paps this finals series unfortunately for the better of the club & it's future I think getting finals experience into Paps means more than getting Benny another run. Shit that sentence sucks... but the club is ALWAYS bigger than the individual. I really hope he can be there if we make it to GF day this year. He bloody deserves it more than most IMO. It's just a call as to if we can fit both him & Paps into the same side on the day. Depends on opponent but in all liklihood I doubt it. So happy about Paps coming through (I reckon he'll be a favourite of mine in a few years) but it'll be very bittersweet if it robs Benny of his chance now.

If he is to stay on next year then it'll be ala ROK or LRT in their final years - helping develop NEAFL talent & providing injury cover on a minimal/base salary.

Opinion seems pretty divided. Maybe we need a poll...
The division, rightly or wrongly, appears to be between 'no' and '**** no'

Logically, no.

Put it this way:
If we make the GF and he is not selected, then he should be delisted.
If we make the GF and he is selected:
(a) We win and Horse suggests he retire (as he probably will); or
(b) We lose and unless he wins the Norm Smith it is more likely than not that he will not feature in our plans for next year.

Yes give him another year, don't tip the balance of youth and experience. Also never seen him kick goals as regularly as this year

We win the flag he retires himself, perfect scenario after his 2012 heartbreak. If we don't win, we may give him another year on reduced $ as cover, he has after all played well very recently.

There is obviously a cap squeeze and senior fringe players are the most likely to be squeezed out.

Don't know why everyone feels so sorry for him

Look at his effort in 14
Too harsh Punts. There was a whole team of players who could be thrown into a similar category. Noone should be singled out on that day, it was a complete team failure.

If we are to win the p'ship this year then Ben McGlynn will have to be at his best in every game.
We have dropped a number of games by a kick this year & that can be put down to inexperience under pressure.
Benny increases that experience in the team so it will be vital.

I am very concerned whether Ben can provide something this week. As mentioned before, his five goals last week were in a training drill.
This question will be answered this week & it is in Benny's hands! Just laying 5 or 6 tackle won't cut it. He needs to hit the scoreboard & get in their faces!
