Does benny get another year?

Still a no from me

But maybe he has a bit of a say to go in this series

Geez if he plays 2 more finals like that (and wants to play on) then we'd have to give him another year.

Benny has looked awful most of the year

On a lower salary (ie. almost rook) he is not bad depth. To me he is a player that is amazing onfield if played in the ressies and if he gets the call up to seniors can deliver.

I like this idea. And if form not just depth warrants it then he gets a main game gig.

But he won't. He's had two good games this year. Time for him to finish up after next week or the GF.

It really depends on salary as I glossed over earlier. If he didn't take any of our salary cap, would he be a better depth player next year then someone like B.Jack???

We have shown with O'Keefe that our coaches will pick the best team regardless of history. If Mcglynn knew where he stood and got a 1 year extension, how is it a bad idea?

The issue I have with it would be that he's taking the spot of a youngster. I'd prefer to draft another rookie with a 10% chance that he'll turn out to be another Kirk or Rampe.

But you need senior players to guide the youngsters.

ie. You need experience in the NEAFL team to educate. When we have a really good team, if McGlynn is on not much coin I think he would be better then having another rookie just for his experience.

Personally I would love for Rose to step up and take his place, but I want them to earn it.

edit: McGlynn strikes me as a player that will move into coaching. I get the feeling that he is professional and is a good onfield coach for our youngsters

I think people are being a little harsh on mcglynn. As fans, we always have the best interests of the team in mind, which means if a player is not performing, then they're considered expendable.

It's not easy for a player to come in and have an immediate impact, particularly in bennys role. Sometimes the ball just doesn't bounce in your favour, or your teammate fluffs a kick and you end up looking poor on the end of it.

Thinking about it from bennys perspective. He was facing footballing mortality. Had gone from a certain starter to spending most of the year in the reserves. It would have been difficult coming in, knowing you had to get everything right to retain your place in the side or end your career with a pretty shallow feeling. There would have been a huge weight on his shoulders. It's very easy to fall into the trap of trying too hard and messing things up.

I think his performances have shown a lot of character. Particularly after a poor showing against gws, where although he wasn't our worst, would have felt the spotlight was well and trully on him.

I sure as hell hope he continues his current form and goes on to achieve the ultimate. And whatever happens thereafter I'm sure he'll be content.

I think he can secure another year, absolutely! I thought he was cooked a few weeks back but I think it was really just a lack of fitness through soft tissue injuries. His goal kicking is bordering on elite ATM and he's finding the ball. Yeah he ****ed up on that kick that led to goal last week but 10 seconds prior, he took an exceptional mark. You can see he wants that flag, he ****ing well deserves it and his destiny is clearly in his his hands!

Does anyone have his heat map from the semi-final? Seemed like he spent almost all of the match in our forward half and he played an absolute blinder. Maybe there's something to be said for keeping him on the list if the coaches realise his strengths and weaknesses.

And if he backs up that performance for the next two weeks with similar efforts, you'd think the choice to retire or stay on would be completely in his own hands. That being said, if his form goes down next year, Horse has shown that he isn't afraid to drop him to the reserves. I'm actually OK with that situation, but my head still says that he's unlikely to be offered a new contract based on the rest of this year's output.

Ask and you shall receive. A 4% swing on his season average from defensive half to attacking half and a slight change in his heat map from mainly around the middle to mainly around half forward

What if he takes a 'Hawthorn Legend Pay Cut' & only plays for $50,000 in 2017 like the Hawk legends are.
That way we too can fit Fyfe in to our cap.

On a serious note, I have changed my mind on Ben. As long as he understands that he may play NEAFL if all doesn't fare well.
I think he & the club will work it out without our assistance. We have a great track record with these things of late.
Let's get Ben a premiership first & we'll all feel better should he retire!

I should add that Ben is the player most likely to get in the oppositions faces without it affecting his game. No doubt the coaches want that aggressive type player in our line up. Hence why I think if & when fit, Jones is a walk up start.
