That's a relief Paul.

I feared you were going to ask me to translate 'masochist'.

Hi all

As anyone who has read through this tread may imagine it has caused a lot of angst on the board and not a little mod discussion behind the scenes. As such I have taken an executive decision to close it down for the night and the mods will review it in the morning to decide if we should reopen it and get back on track of its main discussion

Things have settled a little in the last half hour but one point I wanted to make was we run this board within certain rules and guidelines. In the main we deal with football related topics and if posters step off into personal or other abuse, innuendo or inappropriate comment based on race, gender etc they will be quickly shut down.

Tonight was a little different and we were at times being asked to make judgements on complex non football matters with nuances and opposing views that are, in my opinion, well beyond our brief. As a general point I would say I don't think anyone was espousing overt racist views, that wouldn't be tolerated, but there were judgements being made that could be argued til the cows come in. It's beyond our moderating duties to make sch calls.

As such I would ask the protagonists to button it for now, we will close things overnight, if the mods as a group feel we can make any further deliberations on these matter we will advise tomorrow once we make a decision re reopening the thread.

After a review this morning the mods have decided to reopen this tread. Please keep on topic re Dekkers pass mark

Does Derek get a pass mark? Ask me in 3 years..

What would people say about 2012 out of curosity of what earns you a pass mark? I would say pass..

IN
Tim Broomhead (Port Adelaide Magpies) Drafted with National Draft selection No. 20
Brodie Grundy (Sturt) Drafted with National Draft selection No. 18
Ben Kennedy (Glenelg) Drafted with National Draft selection No. 19
Quinten Lynch (West Coast) Unrestricted Free Agent
Jackson Ramsay (East Perth) Drafted with National Draft selection No. 38
Jordan Russell (Carlton) Traded (from Carlton in exchange for National Draft selection No. 71)
Marley Williams (Rookie List) Promoted rookie
Clinton Young (Hawthorn) Unrestricted Free Agent

I'm not even fussed by Russel Young and Lynch. They were all brought in as temporary fixes and/or depth. Lynch forced Dawes to spit the dummy...without him we'd probably be stuck with Dawes still and a far reduced trade value.

Kennedy held his trade value

Ramsay and Broomhead look good but need a clear injury run

Agree. Those 3 should be seen for what they were. Cheap tempory stopgaps bought in because we had lost experience off the list, gained good draft picks but needed some coverage while kids matured. Sure they didnt work out but we paid very little so really nothing lost.

Jordan Russell is probably the best example. We traded him for pick 69 which we obtained from the Bulldogs for Tom Young a player we would have otherwise delisted. Carlton didn't even bother to use the pick in the draft. Only 4 live picks were used after pick 69 and only 1 of those players Nick Kommer at Essendon, managed to play more games than Russell played for Collingwood. He cost us nothing.

The other thing he did do was provide leadership and mentoring for our kids. Even though he was new to the club 3 of our 4 draftees named him as the best mentor they had since arriving at the club. He cost nothing and he was of benefit to the club.

I cant say giving up pick 71 for a player who played a few games and was decent support a huge cross... (maybe its the Carlton hate coming through) but anyone who plays from pick 71 cant be a 'huge cross.' Same with players who cost us nothing but cap space such as Lynch and Young who were decent stop gaps that didnt pan out.

Kennedy is a cross unfortunately I agree there. But could Marley be a 'Huge Tick' if Russell is a 'Huge Cross'

I'll give him a pass and also a f##k you Dekka again not drafting an indigenous player, grrrr I'll do a td here :mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:;);););). Goldcoast draft an indigenous player every f##kn year.
Obviously hope Wills and Crocker do well, but was a bit disappointed when I saw that Yestin Eades was still on the board and got taken between those boys
Just think he's done well to get as far as he has and by all reports has real breakaway speed, would have liked it had we picked him up.

All - please keep this thread on track and be mindful of others when posting. Whilst your posts may seem innocent enough to you and your own views, other posters may find them offensive. Without trying to stifle discussion too much, choose your words carefully and think of others when putting your point across.

It's a little early to tell whether passing on Balic, Matthieson or Bonner for Sier was a smart move.
Hine knows alot more than me so I'll back him for now.
Before the draft, I was hoping that they didn't draft the 'safe pick' - it certainly seems to have worked out that way, so I'm happy with Sier.

Good thought to focus on 3 years ago.
I'd be inclined to give 1. [Broomy] and 5. [Ramsay] ticks as well, although I understand that they still have a long way to go to convince everybody.

Broomhead is still an unknown, big season ahead for him.

Grundy is a tick, but there was no other option but to draft him.

Kennedy is a cross

Lynch a huge cross

Ramsay still an unknown, struggled for patches in the VFL but put together some solid AFL games. His injury is very unfortunate.

Russell is a cross, list clogger.

Williams was a terrific pick up, good recruiting decision.

Young another huge cross, injury prone and simply not that good.

Overall, pretty disappointing.

The fact that none of Ramsay Broomhead or Kennedy have cemented themselves in the best 22 heading into 2016 despite all being relatively high drafts is a poor return, and our bring ins from other clubs were expensive disasters.

Grundy and Williams are the shining lights

*edit had 2nd thoughts . Let's stay on topic
Mod I think denying me the ability to respond is a bit rich. I know it's off topic and also very topical, but it's already gone pretty deep so to deny my closing, hopefully clarifying comments about my attitude is a bit unfair.

Closing ? Statements like 'cultural disadvantaged' are hardly part of an closing argument .
Undoubtedly some will find that not being able to respond to you is also not fair. And the circus could start again. Or you can choose to stop as the mod asked us to.

Hine is still living on his picking Pendlebury reputation. Wouldn't be in the top 8 recruiters in the afl if it wasn't for that.

IMHO picking Langdon at #65 was far more impressive than picking Pendlebury at #5

As was picking Beams at #29

As was picking Williams at #35 in a rookie draft

Look at clubs like West Coast and Hawthorn. Bruest and Smith. Hine is behind those recruiters when it comes to picking later in the draft.
