What a disgrace? 23,000 fans attended today...7-0 and to draw a pathetic crwod like that does beg the question whether hawthorn does have much support at all...To say they would 70,000 -- 80,000 against essendon is a joke..

I agree with you in a way BUT alot of people would have expected Hawthorn to win convincingly, which they did, so would not have gone to the game

i dont think this game shows any signs of what the crowd will be like next week

So are you saying Hawthorn supporters are fairweather supporters???

Essendon played West Coast at Colonial Stadium and got 34,000, in a game Essendon was expected to win convincingly. Your argument therefore has no merit!!!

Vanders it shouldnt matter who you guys play....Everyone during the week was talking about 75,000 --80,000 turning up if the game was shifted..Dont you the hawk fans should have turned up this week to show the AFL that Colonial isnt the appropriate venue for this weeks clash....

Today's Hawthorn - Weagles crowd means diddly-squat in relation to next week.

As you point out, Adrian, the Dons - Weagles drew 34,000; two years ago, when West Coast were a stronger side, that match-up pulled 55,000. I think if we use that as a guideline, a Hawthorn vs. a strong WC team would comfortably get 30 - 35,000.

Yeah Ripper...you have a point! This arguement has been exhausted, and the game is still a full seven days away. Personally, i am not phased where the game is played, but it looks certain that the game is going to remain at Colonial. If the AFL (and Essendon) were do do an about face, you'd expect Collins to commence legal proceedings.

Here's hoping it's a great match, and if i see as many empty seats as i did at last year's Essendon-Hawthorn 'lock-out', the AFL will be getting a stern letter! Not that it would worry them, with a sell-out and live coverage into Melbourne!

I think Hawthorn...

Hawthorn supporters are waiting to play the bombers. Nobody really cares about a game between a top class side and a shocker of a side which even with those fourteen players in the side still wouldnt have won. So lets wait till next week when Colonial Stadium is full to the rafters to see the Hawks and the Bombers play a great game.

Hawthorn have anough supporters.

The WCE game has no bearing whatsoever on anything. The only thing would have been the injury to hay, who is perfect for Lloyd.

They beat WCE by roughly the same margin that Essendon did - so there's no logic that says they should lose to them on that performance.

As for the crowd. Many supporters will already have bought tickets to this weeks game at a huge premium (at least $25 per person). Ever thought they may have missed the eagles game to save a few dollars ? It all adds up for families you know. Intestate teams have never appealed much to hawks fans (once had 12,000 v fremantle) and since all except the adelaide teams are crap anyway it's even less incentive.

If Hawthorn was still played there home games at Waverley then I believe they would be getting bigger crowds then what they are getting now,
After all why did so many members join up 2 years ago, I think it had something to do with the Save Waverley Campaign,
Maybe this is the real reason why they didn't get a hugh crowd on Saturday ???? too many pissed off fans who knows.

Stuffed if I know the answer,
Why not Ask Wayne Jacksoff

Going by last weeks crowd, the game should not be at the MCG. 23,000 for a team that has not lost a match is very poor. I would think Melbourne might manage to do better than that.

can not believe what i have been reading ie,some very soft excuses for hawforns supporters not showing up.If your team is playing you go,and that`s all there is to it,very soft, wayne campbell soft.
"nobody really cares about a game between a top class side and a shocker of a side"....that is weak.

Your teams great crowd pulling power was shown yesterday 47'452 at the grand final rematch l would say was very disappointing.

I think bringing up the Hawthorn-West Coast attendance was weak to begin with. Essendon are routinely picking up 20,000 less people (at least) to their home games against interstate teams. Hawthorn are getting attendances in the 35,000 region at Colonial against teams like Footscray and St Kilda. Hawthorn got 52,000 against Collingwood this year. There are bound to be more against Essendon, especially now that it's a bona fide blockbuster.

Here's a little taste of what stats can be made to do:

Essendon got 56,028 against North. Collingwood got 34,600. Therefore Essendon have 22,000 more supporters than Collingwood. Therefore, of the 83,905 who went to the Essendon-Collingwood match, 53,000 supported Essendon. Enough to fill Colonial by themselves. Therefore the game should be moved.

Or if you like, Collingwood got only 26,067 to their game against Fremantle. Terrible. Collingwood, possibly the best-supported team in Victoria. If only that many fans go to see them against a team they can beat, how many would they get against Essendon? The amount Hawthorn would get plus maybe 5,000 more. Oooh, hang on, they got 83,905. Therefore Hawthorn will get over 75,000.

See, stats don't mean much. This entire thread is null and void.

Totally agree. But we had not won seven games in a row either! And I am the first to admit, we are bandwagon supporters.

The Hawthorn supporters that will complain about not getting into the Essendon game will be the same people that didn't bother going yesterday.

Have you realised Jubby, that last week Carlton played Geelong at the MCG and drew the whopping crowd of 29000???

This game was scheduled at the G: why not Kardinia or Optus if that is the pathetic crowd going to turn up?

6000 more than the crowd you are accusing Hawthorn fans of not turning up to.

People in glass houses...

Hawthorn haven't lost?

The Hawks must surely be winning, why else would opposition losers be worried about Hawthorn's attendances.

First you criticise Hawks for only winning by 80 points, and then you criticise them for a low crowd.

What's a matter? Can't knock Hawk's performances?

Fact is Hawks have the 2nd or 3rd highest Victorian Membership, numbers you loser supporters like Demons, Blues, Cats, & Tigers bandwagoners can only dream of.

TOP OF THE LADDER AND LOVING IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Surely Hawthorn have more supporters, but.... After attending that game I can see why they'd stay home.

Traditionally a game that is likely to be a walkover (and with an out of town club involved) is poorly attended, even by supporters of the red-hot favourites.

It was a crap game and a waste of money, although it was a good reason to drink beer.

Essendon v Melb and Adel v Richmond were much better value and hench better crowd numbers.

Some Melbourne supporters are bandwaggon jumpers....but all teams have them....The MCC members are the worst...but I would not call them supporters...they don't even buy a membership...if they truly wanted the club to survive, they would buy a membership.

As I have done this year.
