Yep why not nurse ken to 150?How many games did the great Ken Hunter play for Carlton? I had to look it up because the number is completely irrelevant. It’s 147.
As with all players, the legacy he created has very little to do with some arbitrary number, and everything to do with the stamp he put on the club and the sport through the way he played the game.
I have no idea if both MM and the club are prioritizing getting him to 300, regardless of whether he can properly contribute on the field, but if that’s the case it all seems a little sad to me.

Because back then we had balls and the calls what’s best for club.
This is and has been an issue for a long time. We are soft in areas. Murphy should retire next week and 298 300 who cares it’s a number not career defining.
Fisher. There’s one.Hunter retired when he had to have hip surgery at the age of 32, nursing him wasn't an option. If he could've played on he wouldn't have retired mid-season. His body wouldn't allow him to step onto a ground any longer. His body was totally shot. Not buying into anything else but at least research before using another player as an example.

I can’t remember who was head coach at the time.Yeah, was a terrible decision by the club at the time to leave him stranded on 99. Most supporters I know are dirty on the club for doing it.
When they immortalise our 300 game players into a painting, I suspect it'll be Braddles, Doull, Nicholls, SOS and Simmo having a laugh in the lockers and Murphy in the distance looking in the mirror?

Uh no, Simpson would've slotted in nicely in any team. Probably would've been a lot more effective too, his courage would've been lauded even moreso. If you're going to be like that Simmo wouldn't be there either, in a different era, in a stronger team he wouldn't have played 300. Just celebrate the achievement and leave it at that, no need to be totally disrespectful.

Lenny Hayes and Wayne Campbell both played 297 games. Stevie J 293, Matty Boyd 292. Does it affect their legacies? Probably not. Does it keep them up at night? If it was me: probably!
Justin Madden played 287 for us. Parko asked him if he wanted to play on to try to get there.
Sticks was a liability in his last year. Does it detract from the legend he was?
FWIW I think Murphy should play. Dropping him now would look petty. Let him play and play him in the middle.
I remember hearing Greg Williams talk about Rod Carter (293) being dropped before his 300th game and how it left a sour taste.
Let him play. Give him the phot op with Braddles, Sos, Big Nick, Doully and Simmo, and then we move on
Simmo could've been picked up in the mid season draft and he would contribute more this weekend than murph has all year. The are incomparable in terms of what they provided to the team at the end of their careers. If you're going to be like that Simmo wouldn't be there either, in a different era, in a stronger team he wouldn't have played 300.
