They’ll get him there and it’ll be a good thing then if selection integrity follows.
The run to the finish line has been a sad way to wind up an otherwise distinguished career.
Never understood the significance of personal milestones in team sports.
Wouldn’t have a clue and couldn’t care less how many games Kenny Hunter for example played for the Blues but loved every one of them ...

Only 146 I reckon.

Edit = 147 (160 goals). Interestingly he was caught on 99 games with Claremont. Not big on milestones.

Geez, thought his 3rd qtr last week was the difference for us…

*scratches head yet again…

I think the point being made by many here, and in the broader media - is that Murph is now a "burst" player so play him off the sub, and players need to show 4 quarters of commitment - not selectively chose when to play - and as a senior player that is completely unacceptable.

It was the theme of the week in the media - and rightly so.

Anyone who has watched Murphy play over the last 2 or 3 years should understand that the SCG is not for him

The same Marc Murphy who averages 26 possessions and nearly 5 tackles at the SCG and who has had 29 and 32 possessions the last two times he has played at the ground ?

The Murphy bashing on this site is embarrassing, he was terrific last week will more than likely be rested as the sub tomorrow and back in the side next week against the eagles.

Murph is still the best user we have going into our forward line. If we could match his offensive ability with fogarty's defensive ability we would have a hell of a player.
Even at his best, Murphy was never a defensive player.

Well no, he's not the same Marc Murphy. The second of those games you are referring to was way back in 2017. No one is arguing that he didn't used to be a very good midfielder. He's just not that player anymore.

Yup Murphy bashing is in very poor taste, pathetic immaturity.
Don't be so precious. Murphy's form has been ordinary at best this year. One good qtr against one of the worst sides in it this year isn't that impressive.

Well you made the argument that the SCG wasn’t for Murphy, I provided facts that proved otherwise.

I could also make an argument that if it wasn’t for Murphy this year we would be stuck on two wins for the season, he was vital in last week’s win and even more important in the win against Gold Coast earlier in the season.

Are we in a position that we can take any win for granted are we ?

Facts are Murphy has played a vital role in 2 of our 4 wins this year, he is still by far our best kick going inside 50, he has had a terrific career with 7 top 3 results in the best and fairest and captain of the club.

If our younger players were any good they should force him out of the side it shouldn’t be handed to them on a platter.

I said a similar thing a week or so ago and people replied saying that it was a sign of his poor leadership or something like that.

Murphy has been a very, very good player for Carlton. Still has value for now with his ball use and should get to 300 for mine.

You'd assume that he will be the sub

Well Honey has been named as sub - if that means anything.

Getting to the pointy end of the season now. All teams are playing with players sore and niggles and it is getting down to who wants it more in each game. No reason why the side cant beat both Sydney and WC and we go in 6:6 into the bye. Lose both and it is season over as far as finals go.

Best thing for him, I wouldn’t make him sub. Give him a week to reflect how he wants to end his career. Does he want to be known as being carried? Or go out respected that his last * games he gave his all.

I think Murphy has been holding his spot because of injury to Fisher & Martin. I think he’s been a hell of a servant for the club and would love if this group could get healthy enough to have him be apart of something special. Unfortunately, it hasn’t happened and a spot up forward will be hard to break into with the emergence of Fog & Owies and also Martin coming back. Teague was stated saying if there’s a spot in the team up for grabs and he was juggling up who to put in then he would side with the younger player as long as they were playing at the same level or better. Fisher will be back in eventually and that’ll kick out Betts too. The passing of the guard is well and truly here. Thank you for your service Murph!
