No club in the history of the VFL/AFL has ever left a player stranded this close to 300, we won't be the first, no matter what the circumstances are.
So you’d be happy if we win next week against Gold Coast and then have to play Port to keep our finals chances alive with a half baked Murphy incapable of running out a game and in horrible form to be picked in the starting line up and expected to play the full game ahead of someone else?

Only way he misses it now is if he gets injured in 299.
Or he may decide to pull the pin himself and go out without the mockery milestone game. I never thought that was a chance and it's still likely not, but seeing how pathetic he looked last night may change his mind. He would have touched the ball 10 times I reckon yet only had 4 posses in a half. Was so slow and easily tackled it was sad. Hard to remember how good he was way back when.

I think if he was going to do that he would have by now. But totally agree with you and would hope he put the team before his own numbers. For me he and his leadership has been apart of the issue with our club for a long time now. Why do we have so many that don't chase don't tackle and seem to only ever seem worried about their own stat's?? In my opinion it's the standard this fella has set for years

Agreed, it's just last night he looked worse than he ever has which made me think it's a chance. He seemed even more checked out than normal. Probably wishful thinking given the charade has been playing out for 2 seasons at least.
Too me it looks like he thinks his above the sub role and even the way he sits there on the bench just gets under my skin he should be a leader and talk to the young

I feel alot of it goes down to attitude! And for me the MC need to realise this man has had his day in the sun and you have players actually playing for their careers who deserve a game before him

He clearly has body issues as does Cripps Silvagni and others .
Thats not the real issue the real issue he has checked out and playing out time .

IF and a big IF we are still with a chance going to make the 8 going into the final game it’s going to be a big call as whether you play murph. I’d have more respect for murph to make the call and not play and finish on 299 rather than limp to 300, regardless of me make finals or not

As long as he doesnt get injured properly that prevents him playing he will play his 300th .
Its that close now that most clubs would now play him unless possibly it was in a final .
But most clubs wouldnt have let it get to this farcical stage .
Either would have tapped him on the shoulder end of last year .
Or on about 290 part way through this season .

He looked cooked last night despite spending a half on the bench he was slow and was caught with the ball several times. His goal at the end salvaged a scrap of dignity.
IF we are a chance to scrap into final in the the final game I don’t think we can carry him.
Damn I wish that goal was the matchwinner a la Freo. Wouldn't have changed anyone's minds but at least he'd have earned his pay.

You might wanna try harder then.

Father time gets us all eventually. Let's not forget once upon a time he was genuinely in the conversation as the best mid in the comp at least for a season or two.

The Marc Murphy running around last night is not that Murphy, no speed or strength in the contest, looked like the speed of the game was completely a level above what he was expecting. Can still kick a goal or those trademark bananas on the run though.

He'll get to 300. As Thy said, if he could kick one of those goals and help sink an opposition team, none of us could complain.

I just hope he's trying to get through these games injury free, so he can try and turn back the clock one last time in game 300.

Great that Murphy will get to 300 games. Sure, his best is behind him but kind of stuffed that he’s become a whipping boy.

People can dismiss him all they want, but he’s won a best first year player, been a club captain, an all Australian, 2 times best and fairest, and coaches association player of the year.

I'm Pro getting Murphy to 300 games, his so close may as well... But last night he made it so hard to defend him...

Sooking on the bench as the sub and then gets his chance to get on the field and was totally disinterested...
Geez Murph were doing you a favour, at least you could do is give it your all...

His performance last night says it all.
Those responsible have a date with destiny coming …

They’ll start him on the ground.
They’re going all the way with this farce.
They’ll pay the price soon enough …

They have a date with Destiny, but they have to pay for it?

Are you suggesting our club utilise an escort service?

I think we are saying the same thing in that no matter which way you look at it (injury/poor form) he has been the 23rd man picked for the last two weeks and has shown absolutely nothing to suggest he deserves an elevation into the starting 22. Should we keep our finals hopes alive next week by beating Gold Coast and Murphy is sub again what possible justification will there be to elevate him into the starting line up for a crunch game against Port? It’ll basically be akin to playing short one player for the entire match, essentially putting getting him to 300 ahead of a chance to make the finals. I’d imagine if we lose to Port and he does absolutely nothing it’ll long be remembered for all the wrong reasons.
This is in no way a personal attack on him and he was a truly great player and I’m sure he will be appropriately remembered for those better times. Also although I’m usually all for picking the best available 22 to give us the best chance of winning every week, I get the sentiment/loyalty argument and if we were out of finals contention I’d probably have less of an issue with it. But that is not the case so those charged with making this decision must prioritise the interests of the club over the individual.

One thing I do hope for is that when he does play his 300th, as he will, and there is a thread on this board to celebrate it that all those who have nothing positive to say do the decent thing and steer clear of it.

There is no way he can start the remaining games in the 22

He’s sub even in game 300

Don’t care how it looks…he is no where near fit enough and he knows that Father Time has got him

It will be bitter sweet for him but take it or leave it Marc
