That’s the discussion that I was having….Murphy on form and fitness should not be in the 22

That isn't what will be the determining factor though, we will get him to 300 just like every other club in history has when a player is available for selection and is in the same position.

I think we are saying the same thing in that no matter which way you look at it (injury/poor form) he has been the 23rd man picked for the last two weeks and has shown absolutely nothing to suggest he deserves an elevation into the starting 22. Should we keep our finals hopes alive next week by beating Gold Coast and Murphy is sub again what possible justification will there be to elevate him into the starting line up for a crunch game against Port? It’ll basically be akin to playing short one player for the entire match, essentially putting getting him to 300 ahead of a chance to make the finals. I’d imagine if we lose to Port and he does absolutely nothing it’ll long be remembered for all the wrong reasons.
This is in no way a personal attack on him and he was a truly great player and I’m sure he will be appropriately remembered for those better times. Also although I’m usually all for picking the best available 22 to give us the best chance of winning every week, I get the sentiment/loyalty argument and if we were out of finals contention I’d probably have less of an issue with it. But that is not the case so those charged with making this decision must prioritise the interests of the club over the individual.
Its a terrible situation that could be put to bed if Murph was invested or interested enough to crack in and give it his best shot to finish his career .
But imo he clearly is not invested if the club feel that is the case they are duty bound to remove him from the side .

Having said that if he has injuries that are preventing him from that then that is even poorer of both player and club to continue this way .
There has been many a player call it quits mid season due to their body and not reaching milestones by putting club over personal milestones .

Weve had a similar situation with Casboults fitness through the first half of the year clearly not right and basically playing with 17 on the ground imo through most of those games .

Hypothetically we go a player down as we have the past 2 weeks but its in the first minute of the game .
Murph as Teague has said wasnt fit enough to run a game out now he is forced to play a full game he then breaks down and we are 2 short in a crucial game that may decide finals participation .

All hypothetical but indeed possible and rather risky when your the people (Teague and co) in the know of these situations .
But he will play his 300th unless injury prevents that just do hope its not in a manner that we witnessed yesterday .
Personally its giving myself a slightly bitter feeling about club and player because they are imo putting a players personal milestone over club interests .

That isn't what will be the determining factor though, we will get him to 300 just like every other club in history has when a player is available for selection and is in the same position.
Which other clubs have carried a player to 300, from about game 260? What are you actually arguing? He’s close to 300, yes. But doesn’t deserve to be. Where do you draw the line?

Can’t believe anyone could advocate for the selection of a player who is physically unable or unwilling to do what is required. We are going in one short, it’s laughable.

I guess I don’t have one

He never wore a vest to break a record or anything…..

I can name plenty of players who have, so what? Right through the history of the game players have been carried to this milestone in the final stages. To be fair, I couldn't give a rats what happened with Harvey . I am comfortable with the club doing the right thing and getting Murphy over the line.

It will happen, just celebrate the contribution that he has made over the years. He's earned it IMO.

You responded to my post citing his effort.

Nothing to do with form or fitness.

Ok

You replied underneath my post that stated that he shouldn’t be in the 22 due to form and fitness……..You have stated an opinion just like I have

I actually have a reason or 2 why he shouldn’t be in the 22 but should be carried to the milestone

I’ll wait for you post to counter that

To me it's quite laughable that people are so bent out of shape over this, he hasn't been gifted since he was on 260 games, that's just a ridiculous statement.

Last night, on top of last week were embarrassing for Marc, the club, and the coaching/ selection committee.

Miraculously we are still in contention for finals - and we are knowingly going into games with a player not physically able to perform to an even basic standard.

What is this club saying to supporters, to the broader playing group by doing so? That 300 games for Marc Murphy are more important than winning games, more important than getting a finals experience into the list?

it beggars belief. I won’t be sorry to see the back of anyone in a decision making position on this topic. I get they don’t care about the club to the extent supporters do, but this cheapens the jumper to a level I didn’t think even this footy department was capable of.

He has been largely poor for the best part of 3 seasons. It’s not his fault, it’s the clubs fault for playing him.

Should never have been given a contract this year.

Have posted my thoughts already and have given my reasons as to why he’ll get there.

Why do I need to do it again?

That’s why I’m happy for him to be the sub

We keep it season alive whilst playing 22 fit players…..He sails off into the sunset with 300 games

Marc has been a loyal servant of the club through some real real shit times and deserves to be rewarded….not unlike Nathan Jones was

But it has to be as the sub

Imagine going into GWS game with a live finals chance….Honey or Murphy [emoji2359]

Nothing worse than picking a young guy who needs developing as Sub so they most likely miss playing that week. It's perfect, you pick Murphy who is still an ok footballer, you get him to 300, you do the right thing and that means a lot to creating a club players want to play for. Players would resent Teague if he didn't. No brainer this.
