Does Murphy get to 300?

I'd suggest 100% of murph assassins here would crap their pants at even the thought of copping some of the hits he has taken over the years (for the club they follow and purport to love, through the shittest period in the club's history) I'd love to be there watching any of them say this stuff to his face - "ah, yeah, um, hi marc, ah, gee..............anyone seen my laptop?" at least they'll be able to scream about it every time his name is mentioned in years to come - let's see, what murph has added to the club, what grenade throwers on a footy forum have added to the club............let me see.........
If this is directed at me, at no stage have I questioned what he has done for the club over the years, all I have said is that right now he should not be in our team whilst we remain a chance to make the finals.

Pretty ordinary how some treat a champion of our club. Out of the 16,100 odd players to have played VFL/AFL football, only 95 have played 300. Fair effort from the little fella. sh*t players dont play that many IMO.

I don’t think he is a champion and has been given games the past few years at the detriment of team culture.

Yes he was a great player at his best, but that form has been in cameos for years now.

Make him sub this week against Gold Coast, if we win drop him against Port where we may need a sub who can actually impact. If we beat Port and are a chance at finals then what happens?

If you drop him for the Port game then he'll come back for the final home and away game. The club isn't going to leave him stranded on 299 games.

If he's so revered amongst the group, play him against Port (if we win GC)... let's see how much they lift for his 300 in a must win game!

Worked well for Ed's 200th against North.

I don’t think so

As someone else mentioned the best course forward is Murphy again sub for game 299 against Suns and if we win that we drop him completely for the Port game which we have to win for Finals

Then if we beat Port we make Murphy the sub for his game 300 against the Giants which will determine whether we make finals - we won’t be able to afford to make him a starter with our season on the line. If we lose to Port then he can come in as a starter against the Giants.

With West Coast losing heavily yesterday we can take their spot in the 8 if we win our last 3 and that’s more important than Murphy getting to 300 as a starter

It boggles my mind that you think Murphy would have a worse game against Port than GWS.

We match up horribly on GWS of late. The Port result this year was a series of tactical and selection failures.

GWS are more capable of systematically working us over through sheer talent and running power.

I’ve won triple the amount of premierships as him.

According to someone who doesn't attend this forum anymore Ed is not a popular man amongst the group (neither was Simmo, Murphy)...
Let me modify this by saying Ed is not not disliked amongst the group but internally is not the leader/mentor that some outside may perceive him to be, hence perhaps the lack of will and desire by the group to make his 200 a success. But Murphy, he was captain, leader of men, surely they can spark up for his 300th.

Still not convinced this is true.

I wasn’t commenting that Port is easier than the Giants - just that we are better off taking it one game at a time and doing our best to beat Port which in my opinion would not include Murphy as the sub. Then once we get through that game we will know if we are still a chance for Finals and how fit Murphy is and decide whether he starts the game against the Giants or is just a sub who comes on later (or not at all).

I genuinely believe Murphy has a contribution to make against Port, whereas I would be more concerned against the Giants, especially if he's held out of stoppage looks.

Maybe it's the eternal optimist in me, but I can picture Murphy winding back the clock in game 300, knowing this is his moment. Milestone achieved, he can cast aside any thoughts of self-preservation and play without restriction. A strong performance in his milestone match to keep our (very faint) finals aspirations alive would go a long way to restoring whatever goodwill he might have lost this year.

then again, I still dream of Fev running out in the navy blue...

For all my angst about him playing or not, if he does get picked I would love nothing more than if that scenario played out!

Too much TV for you, Royal Police Canadian Bounties.

The commercial where the girl walks down the street and says, “My Mum always told me to wear clean underwear when I am leaving the house, in case I get hit by a bus” is permanently seared in my brain. Imagine your daughter getting squished by a bus and worrying that she might have streak marks.

Okay, I’ll see you all tomorrow. I am done for the day.

Exactly what mum always told me.

Despite the rhetoric on here, he's already thrown himself in this year, particularly after he was dropped.

The same complaints were being thrown at Setterfield, Ramsay, Owies, Martin and O'Brien at various levels and points in time this year. It's the system and coaching of it.

If he really wanted what’s best for the club he would retire today and say good luck boys go and play finals. Put the team first and get out of the way so finals can be the sole focus. He and everyone else knows he’s being dragged over the line. Where’s the honor in that? But I guess look who we’re talking about.
