Does Murphy get to 300?

Clearly the club wants him to get to 300, no player has ever been left stranded on 298 and with good reason, it would be a terrible indictment on the club to do so.
Treating your longest serving player in such a manner wouldn't actually help inspire confidence in the club in the eyes of other players. Good luck when asking them for their loyalty.

People forget that footy clubs are about people and relationships, it's not like running a regular business.

I reckon a good way to inspire confidence in players would be to pick the best team to win the game, especially if finals are in the line.
I wonder how the team will feel when they look back and see how pathetic we played against North, against a depleted Eagles, how we let the Bulldogs kick 8 goals to our 1.

Maybe you’re right and the other players will look to blame Murphy for missing out on making finals.....it’s easier that taking accountability for their own piss weak efforts in the above 3 losses Cripps included.

There has been pissweak performances by many this year but if you can’t see that Murphy shits his pants at a hint of physical contact EVERY time he goes near a contest then your eyes must be painted on. He has defined the word pissweak every time he has run on the park this year

You missed my point Joey. You said you wondered how Cripps and other players feel about Murphy getting picked and something about every other player who works their arse off and are dying to play finals.

Where the **** were these players two weeks ago against North, not working their arses off that’s for sure - that’s what pisses me off more than anything.

I never said Marc hasn’t played poorly or doesn’t avoid physical contact, he does. My point regarding your original post is when you talk about how you think Crippa and the other players might FEEL about Murphy being selected I think you might be off the mark.

Value your opinion bud but anyone who has played the game would know that carrying players, regardless of how close they are to milestones can have a disruptive affect on team harmony. Would Leigh Matthew’s allow this type of scenario to play out? I highly doubt it.

Cripps has played the majority of this season with a broken back. I’m ok with Paddy’s efforts.

All good xbin.

Don’t think Matthews would get to this scenario we’re in tbh..I highly doubt Matthews would have tolerated our efforts against the Eagles and North, carrying an unfit Martin 6 weeks ago, having 8 goals to 1 kicked against us, etc...

When I look back at this season, it will be those 3 or 4 bad games I will remember as missed opportunities. Not that the CLUB has chosen to play an experienced player like Murphy as a sub instead of a first year player as a sub.

Once again Ross Lyon was very forthright with his views on this.

"Carkton should absolutely get Murphy to 300 games. Clubs always talk about culture and a huge part of that is how you treat players on their way out, particularly those that have given you very loyal service"

Maybe there is room for an alternative view.

So, you want to use Leigh Matthews to support your view without knowing what his view is? Highly doubt on your behalf (a speculative opinion) doesn't support an argument.

Can you please point us to evidence of the disharmony this issue is causing amongst the team?

If you were talking about us picking up a Mick Martyn type from another club to get him over the line, I'd agree, it would have the potential to cause problems. When it's one of your own people who has served the club so well for so long, you do it.

Giants winning last night takes finals out of the equation for us so we can truly celebrate MM next week in game 300, just a shame it won’t be in front of fans

Yes, not AFL but I played plenty of football. What would the relevance of that be to talking about football anyway?

Play nice thanks!

whats wrong with that? Anyone who has played footy would understand it’s team game. No room for individuals. Murphy has shown he is 100% about himself by pushing to 300. Ruining his legacy. If this is the guy our youngsters have been looking up to as a senior player then god help us.

What did you think of what Ross Lyon had to say as quoted a few posts back then? You know, he's played footy.

I'm of that opinion, so I guess I'll remain as clueless as Lyon is on the matter.

What's wrong with it is you are trying to dismiss the opinions of others based on whether they have played football before or not.

You've registered today, seemingly to do nothing but attack one player. It's an inauspicious start and not in keeping with the way we like to keep things constructive around here.

We are not Facebook.

We're a diverse forum and we value the contributions of all, including those who never had the opportunity to play the game - be it because they are female, disabled or anything else.

Your thoughts are not more correct than those who have not played the game and it is enormously ignorant and arrogant to suggest otherwise.

I have no issue having Murphy get to 300 games as medical sub. Still counts and doesn't really deprive a youngster of any game time tbh.

I think he is in the 22 for his 300th. Would actually be cool to have a 300th and 350th milestone in back to back games. That shows longevity in our sport.

I was thinking the club could rest Murphy next week and have both milestones in the same game. But that risks a last week injury for Murphy and stuck on 299 games as I don’t reckon the club will give him another year. Best play it safe and have it next week. :D

Thinking the same.

that’s correct. I would prefer to pick teams to win games and develope young players. Others would prefer to give games to a guy who had played one good game (Gold Coast at gold coast last year) in 2 years and deny getting games into guys with potential. It’s ok to disagree 👍 My opinion is that he should never been given a contact for the this year and that his motive to try to get to 300 is based on his own personal goals and not the teams. All good 😊
