Does Murphy get to 300?

I think Murphy has been holding his spot because of injury to Fisher & Martin. I think he’s been a hell of a servant for the club and would love if this group could get healthy enough to have him be apart of something special. Unfortunately, it hasn’t happened and a spot up forward will be hard to break into with the emergence of Fog & Owies and also Martin coming back. Teague was stated saying if there’s a spot in the team up for grabs and he was juggling up who to put in then he would side with the younger player as long as they were playing at the same level or better. Fisher will be back in eventually and that’ll kick out Betts too. The passing of the guard is well and truly here. Thank you for your service Murph!

Thought the Fog was getting to shaky ground, as his performances were on the decline with an ordinary patch of form.

Owies will need to keep up with the goals (some fine tackles too) but no certainty with any lean patch. Hoping he continues improving & being selected.

Betts is more than holding is own. Pity he didn’t kick straighter at the start of the season & we may have another win or two.

There may well be personal reasons for Marc Murphy asking to be omitted from the team , perhaps he can’t be hankered down fo 2 weeks in in Sydney
family reasons maybe ? because on performances there’s no way, Gibbo or Cotts would get a game ahead of Marc.

No doubt that as long as he doesn't sustain an injury he'll make it. He's given his all to the club, has been a great player, will be a much celebrated achievement by those that matter most to him, the club and his mates. Should be celebrated by all supporters as well.

If he gets there, he's going to limp there like Mick Martyn and Rod Carter. At least he has his name on the locker unlike Brad Fisher and Sam Rowe who played 99 games for us.

Murphy would have been a star at any club, there really is no comparison between him and players like Fisher and Rowe. They don't belong in the same conversation.

Yeah, wasn't comparing their ability. Just saying that getting left short of 300 isn't as painful as getting left short of 100.

Yeah, You're right about that, I felt bad for those two.

Likely that he is the sub/rested, at his age he doesn't need to play every game, I'm confident he plays next week against west coast.
I'm happy for him to be the sub this week, play a full game next week against the Eagles and then re-assess after the bye

Murphy will reach his 300 AFL game milestone with the recognition and respect he has earned and deserves. It would not surprise me if Marc decided to continue next season.

MM won’t be getting a game in the 1’s in 2022 off recent form (Incl 2020), and we won’t be able to carry him on the list, which needs some re-shaping.

He's my favourite player, but I have to agree.

This should be his last year, even if his form improves in the second half of the season. The poor bloke's running on empty.

I know he wants a flag, but it's just unfortunate that the timing didn't work out for him. We have to look to the future.
Spot on. Look back on the player he used to be 10 years ago, the guy was an absolute gun. Will get to 300 this year and will be rightly celebrated as a champion of the club. Playing on after that can only dim his legacy and can only hope that even if he wants to go on, the club won't allow it.

This is less to do with Murphy and more to to with Teague needing to set standards and make it known any player will be dropped. Making sure that nobody in the team is comfortable, effort is required at all times.

Murphy provides more than some in the team, but finally there is a bit of pressure on Teague and he is showing a bit of prick. Which is what we are desperately crying out for.

Gotta give credit where it's due. Getting to 300 ain't easy. Guy might be flognatious but he did do that much.
Respect for his football abilities, zero respect for Sam Newman the man. The only time I’ve ever liked him was when he pointed out, to Eddie Everywhere, the squashed Maggie under Doulls’ boot.

Does Murphy get his 300... at a more successful driven ruthless club... nope. At Carlton... maybe.

Does he want a contract for next year? Maybe, depending on how his body is holding up. And considering he’s lost pace and a bit of power this year, he might just consider hanging up the boots when he hits 300. I’m 57 now and the aches and pains of my various injuries over the years are giving me hell... and Smurph has had a few more serious injuries to his shoulders than I have, so he must be playing through the pain quite a bit. That’s going to influence him a fair bit as well.

Does he deserve a contract for next year? No... not based of form. I would like to see him on a rookie/coaching contract next year... helping out in the vfl, mentoring some of our young mids/small forwards who are coming through. Occasionally being used as a medical sub or a break in case of medical emergency type player.

We all want a flag and we are all running on empty

Please explain "Murphy provides more than some in the team"...from where I sit he's a liability...can't chase, can't tackle.

Had a chance yesterday to really impact the game over the length of the whole last quarter when he was fresh as a daisy and the opposition running on the spot.
Started well when he came on late in the third, unsighted in the last.
I really thought he was going to be the trump card yesterday, I think he’s well and truly cooked and should not be playing in the seniors for the rest of the year.
It’s time, sorry Murph but it has to be all about the club and the future

A ruthless club in the 8 wouldn’t allow unless they thought they could cover him.
He could have been the difference yesterday, but was unsighted.
Should have been Honey.

Thought for a minute you said "does he want contact..."

love Mark Murphy remember he could have been playing for Lions under father son but choose to go to draft and mighty Blues

Has been loyal ever since so if he wants to go again good on him but if Carlton say no he might do a hodge or something like that do not want to see him in a different jumper
