Does Murphy get to 300?

I would not give Murphy another game after the putrid performance coming on as medical sub on the weekend. If he cannot impact a game where he holds all the aces, what is the point of picking him?

To those who say 'he has been a loyal servant of the club', yadda yadda, therefore deserves to continue playing - On that logic John Nichols should be lining up in a forward pocket alongside Sticks Kernahan every week and Bruce Doull patrolling the half back line. It's a nuts argument.

Sorry Murph. No 300 for you. You are not up to the required standard WRT effort, leadership, and grit.

Nailed it.

Cannot sustain it over a full game anymore.

Good enough if we have an early injury to play out a game but ideal if its a quarter or a half.

Picture a 100% Murph coming on against tiring midfields. Potential game breaking stuff.
You mean like he did on Sunday? Didn't fire a shot. From memory he had 5 possessions in about 40 minutes of football. 3 in a single passage of play. I don't recall him touching the pill in the last qtr when we needed experience and class and will. He was AWOL.

He is gone, finished, over the hill and far away. The least inspiring leader we have ever had. Still showing the new chums bad habits. dinky kicks off the ground and 'F@#k this, I might get tackled' hospital handpasses. Won't get a hard ball, refuses to run defensively, his tackles are so rare they are memorable.

But he does get one nice kick per game, and the occasional goal. This seems to be the basis of the 'keep him' brigade's argument. If he was a true Bluebagger, he would retire and stop taking the pi55 and the $$$, but he holds on selfishly, to get to some fabled milestone he does not deserve.

Drop Him for good.

I don't disagree with this. I've said numerous times since the end of Sunday's game how bitterly disappointed I was in Murphy. Completely failed to exert himself into the contest. It was right there for someone of his experience, knowledge, and ability to take control and leadership of the game. A fresh player of his caliber coming into that contest had the end of the third quarter to play himself into the momentum of the contest and ready himself to come over the top in the final stanza and he just... failed.

It took a rocket at half-time last week to get that third quarter out of him against the Hawks.

Seems the message went in one ear and out the other as soon as we won.

When Fisher comes back in the next fortnight or so, Murph will no longer have a role in our forward line. Owies and maybe even Honey would have taken that spot away from him.

The only way I can see him in the 22 is on a wing, with Newnes/Cottrell doing pretty poorly at the moment. That being said, it won't take long until LOB or Ramsay challenge for that spot too.

I still think he'll get to 300 though. I don't agree with it, but he does deserve it. Our club would do anything for good PR.

This is the truth the club will not acknowledge. It’s dishonest and creates a substandard culture that delivers substandard results.

if it is understood and agreed upon, that its the goal, then we follow-through.

Anyone that was part of forming that agreement, leaves with him at 300

I had a rant to a Collingwood supporter mate about this, said we've clearly promised to get him to 300 and it's just got sad for all involved.

He said it's annoying but in the end it's incredibly important to treat your people the right way.

I think he is scarred from Treloars treatment but I guess he had a point.

Still sad to watch though.

Someone finally said it.

My problem is that Murphy knows he shouldn't be out there - but wants it. Thats why he shouldn't have it. To take it - entirely at the teams current success and also denying positions to kids who desperately need it for confidence and possibly even to give them reason to remain at the club is seriously poor form.

That is just no way for a leader or a captain to perform.

I lost a huge amount of respect when Murphy didn't step down for Cripps - never regained it.

i think you are making a bigger deal than what it is tbh. murphs inclusion is not taking away from team success. with murph in or out we are about the same team.

Playing Murphy is green lightning his totally conditional game.
This then creates double standards in the team.
Double standards in team sport is a killer ...

If Murph is given a sedan chair ride to a 300th game he does not deserve to be picked for on form, commitment, grit, impact, then the 300 game club becomes meaningless.

Sadly, I have to agree. I'm not expecting him to be the player he used to be, but I expect a little more than one good quarter out of his last five.

I really, really want him to get to 300. However, as more guys come back from injury, or start to put together a run of form in the VFL, it'll get harder to justify his selection.

We're past the point where Murphy on his worst day is still an automatic selection.

Murph could have left for big bucks throughout his career. Always chose to stay a blue. That loyalty should be repaid.

I want to agree with you, I really do. But given our record this season, plus the guys we have coming back from injury, plus guys like Honey who deserve another crack, it's hard to justify.

If he genuinely gets there on merit, I'll be stoked. But I'm not sure we want to see him carried across the line, do we? Particularly if we're losing games we shouldn't be, and have genuine options in the VFL.
