Does the fact we have so many left-footers compromise our game plan?

Non issue. Otherwise all these other teams with right footers are predictable going by that logic.

Sometimes we can look too hard for a reason when we lose.

If you can't execute your skills well enough for long enough, not matter whether you use a left boot or a left hand, your poor execution will give the opposition a chance to hurt you going the other way.

However, what I would like the umpires to do is actually give players the proper 15 seconds they are entitled to before kicking it. Umpires are either very poor time managers or have been instructed to rush the play.
Be mindful however, that most right footers have a better non preferred boot to that of the left footer. Dont know why. They just do.
Thus we have almost half a team that pretty much cant kick on their non preferred. Has bothered me for ages.:(

Why do people have this attitude that a 50 metre kick into the forward line is 'bombing' the ball forward? The reason it becomes a 'bomb' is because we rarely ever have anyone playing up ground, and by the time we wait for players to present themselves up forward, all the gaps have been blocked.

A midfielder should be ableto receive the ball, look upfield and see a player leading. If that happens, then the player can easily deliver a 50 metre kick out in front of the lead. Keep the ball moving, keep some forwards at home, and the game suddenly becomes one helluva lot easier.

It's failed once.
we are playing this way because of injuries to key players . if we had a full list we would play a different way because we would have the confidence .
however , having said that , essendon beat geelong the other night missing key players , they just had a red hot crack and went for it . from what i saw , there was only a very short period before the half time siren that they tried to slow things a little to preserve a lead .
the result from their efforts , a great win .
it shows that even without your best team , you can beat good teams if you apply mass pressure .
we won the 2008 granny with unsociable football and fantastic pressure , and like i said , our great teams of the past did the same .
its what wins flags , simple as that .
aint no way you win grandfinals chipping backwards , sideways etc . you would be hard pressed to find a team in history that has .

I wouldn't read too much into the bombers beating the cats. The Cats were due a loss, and would have gone into the game with a win already banked in their minds. It was well taken by the Bombers, but the opposition was not switched on like it will be in Finals or against other contenders!

Left footers are fine, although many are weaker on their right side, a la Birch, so can be easily caught out by quick opponents that don;t let them turn.

I like the fact we are balancing things up with mroe righties though, e.g. Savage, Shiels, Breust, Lisle, Hale, Bailey...

I think our gameplan can work in September, it's just that for it to be successful, you need players that are used to the speed of the game, have mature decision-making and the necessary skills. Our injuries have meant that we have been forced to introduce young players that may not be ready.

Another pre-season of practice, blokes returning from injury and I expect a Premiership three-peat !!
