No chance …

Their last three coaches all got three seasons to play with despite some abysmal results.

(Albeit for Teague part of one season was as a caretaker, and Malthouse and Bolton had their third years cut short)

Carlton's weakness is outside run ( wings) and HFF - no consistent third or fourth goal kicking options - makes every game a grind. Acres addresses one wing spot - still have 3 starting outside run positions to fix - which is a lot.

Under 10 wins he's probably gone, the fans just won't tolerate it. Finals he's obviously safe.

10-12 wins and miss finals you'd think they'd stick with him for the 3rd year of his deal and do what a lot of clubs have done which is find the right combination of assistants and turn over other areas of their footy department.

From what I saw last year it really wasn't a coaching issue. It was a lack of winning for year on year costing them composure.

Honestly they play finals if Curnow doesn't have a couple of brain fades. And he's the perfect example of player who has either barely played or played in losing sides. Pretty easy for him to cut that out just with experience.

how bout it goes the other way and he has an asshat of a year, what then ?

Part of the reason Carlton missed the finals in heartbreaking fashion last year had to do with the structure of their draw e.g. they didn't face Melbourne or Brisbane until the last three rounds of the season. They got off to a really good start and that momentum continued until late in the season when it all started to unravel.

The question is - what happens if Carlton get off to a bad start in 2023? They started 2022 with 3 wins on the trot against Richmond, the Bulldogs and Hawthorn. This year they have a Richmond side that's arguably better than they were last season, the defending premiers Geelong and then an interstate trip to Sydney to face the Giants. So what happens if they lose two or three of those matches? Do the wheels fall off the wagon before it even gets going and at what point does the intense pressure start getting applied to Vossy as well as the players/how do they react to the intense pressure?

We only have to wait a few more days for some answers.

Part of the problem is the list which is not solvable. Success relies on a mix and the jell of A and C graders each round.
I reckon Voss is a quality coach but he is not a miracle worker. I have them missing and on around 10/11 wins. As was the case last year, I reckon this result reflects where the Club is at.

The expectations at Carlton are best kept realistic but this is very hard as fans continue to overrate the List. They

Think we make finals and Voss is safe but a lot of changes to come at end of year on the list front. Half the injury prone salary eaters will be going and we'll be trying to bring in 2-3 more quality players to round out our 22. No space or need for any more A graders but some quality role players similar to a George Hewett or Blake Acres is what the list needs to make it all the way in coming years.

Starting the season off by smashing Richmond would instill a lot of confidence.
Then again, Richmond are arguably the most overrated club heading into 2023.
I'd argue their opponents are.

You'd be wrong then.
Not really. Richmond made finals last year and have added Hopper and Taranto to their weakest area of the ground. Carlton choked away a finals appearance and won't have their second best mid for the start of the season without adding anything last off season.

Whilst there’s no dispute regarding the additions for Richmond, Acres is an improvement to the weakest (or top 2 weakest) part of the list.

Richmond will be relying heavily on form stability and fitness maintenance of its core group of 30 and over players - Grimes, Prestia, Martin, Cotchin, Lynch, Riewoldt, Tarrant.
