The Fremantle admin have shown a complete lack of class and professionalism in this instance.

They should have handled this a whole lot better.

Please explain how they go about this better? Let it leak into the media so Harvey finds out that way?

It's the WAY IT WAS DONE................ totally behind his back. An associate was interviewed tonight, who has been speaking to Mark all day, and Mark had NO idea this was coming, as did any of us. Now maybe if we'd heard rumours the "Board" weren't happy etc, etc, then it would have given us something to think about. But to do all of this crap behind EVERYONE's back is so wrong.

So if you were losing your job you'd prefer a month of speculation, rumour and stress instead of just being told "Thanks for your services, here's a cheque for 12 months pay. All the best".

Yeah I wonder about these people. They're supposed to be the heart and soul of the club but they bail when they don't like something

Didn't much like rooting our future under muffin man. Didn't have any urge to burn the membership though

I do find their mentality strange. Shit players? That's fine. Poor coach? That's okay, lets extend his contract. Terrible list management? Doesn't matter, I'm a true supporter. Change the jumper and sack a struggling coach? Let's protest !!!

The Fremantle way in the past would have been for Harvey to stay on and next year, after a season where our gameplan doesn't change and Pav is still playing mostly midfield, we finish 6th. Win a final then get hammered by Carlton at Docklands. Given the season, Harvey is offered a 2 year extension.

Rather than face that potential disaster, the club has decided that Harvey was not the messiah after all and chased the guy they really think can bring the ultimate success to this club.

Good on Freo for making the tough call now.

Many Freo fans seem to find solace in viewing this as ruthlessness then associating this with winning. Perhaps that makes this easier to digest?

Personally, I think it reeks of a desperate and crass act by the Freo admin. They obviously think they have to deliver something whilst Pavlich, McPharlin and Sandilands are still on deck, and that the clock is ticking fast.

It's not as though I am a huge wrap for Harvey, but there's a right way and a wrong way to go about these things.
This was not a desperate act Mark Harveys coaching performance was assessed by the board and a calculated decision made on what was best for the club. I applaud them for having the balls to make the right decision.:thumbsu: In saying that I doubt they would have sacked Harvey had Lyon not been available, they saw an opportunity and took it.

I don't understand what the people who are taking the moral high ground think the club should have done differently?

In a two team town footy is often on the front page. If the club had given Harvey 48 hours notice that they wanted to discuss his future that would probably have been leaked. There's a couple of days of unwanted headlines. Then Harvey gets sacked, there's more scrutiny. Then if they wait a week to announce Lyon theres a fortnight of indecision, player unrest, negative press, and time wasted on list management, assistant coaches, etc.

The swift nature of the coup deserves praise, not criticism IMO.

I am definitely not renewing my membership next year. Been a devoted fan since day 1, but the more I hear about how this sacking of Mark was done, the more disgusted I have become!

From media reports, Harvey was reduced to tears when he was told.

There is a right way and a wrong way to treat people - your club almost invariably goes down the wrong path when it comes to sacking coaches and long term players.

Look at how the sacking of Drum played out. That was a disgrace as well.

And now you have humiliated one of Melbourne's finest products. Mark my words - Harvey is a very popular figure around the football establishment in Melbourne and you guys will pay for screwing him like this.

This is probably the most disgraceful thing I have seen happen in years.

How a supporter could keep their membership of FFC next year - and still maintain a clear conscience - is beyond me entirely.

On face value it can seem harsh, however it is the elite sport in Australia, and it is a step in the right direction hearing the club is making tough decisions. If there are doubts about what any aspect of the club questions need to be asked and acted on. It does not need to go around the media like a circus. We are the first club in memory to tell a coach his future before it appears on the back page of every newspaper in the country.

Most supporters believe Harv's has done a great job, he has helped recruit many future stars and has held managed to resign all the required players. Saying that he is not getting the best out of a group of players and an opportunity has presented itself after a horrific year for the club in terms of injuries.

Take a deep breath, Harv's will be fine. Life goes on.

Where to start..............Damian Drum was more than ten years ago so that's old news but was certainly handled poorly. The swift nature of yesterdays decision meant that Mark Harvey was able to avoid the speculation that other sacked coaches have had to endure.

On longterm players -
Peter Bell was allowed to move to Geraldton and the tail wagged the dog there.
Shaun McManus and Troy Cook were kept on a year too long and now have development roles with the cluub so obviously no grudge there.
Paul Hasleby was pushed out by Harvey and he's bitter but his body was shot.
Even the likes of dean Solomon and mark Johnson were given farewell games even though they'd been at the club 5 minutes.
The Fremantle Football Club if anything has been too loyal to it's players IMO.

Mark Harvey may be popular, but so are Shane Crawford, Douggie Hawkins and Billy Brownless. It doesn't mean they can coach.

As I mentioned earlier, get down off your soap box and tell us how this should have been handled differently to ease the pain on Mark Harvey but still be in the best interest of the Fremantle Football Club?

Your words have been marked, now **** off.

From not-at-all bitter experience, here's what'll happen.

- over the next few months every man and his dog in the media, on BF, on talk back radio will be bagging the FFC and Ross Lyon, lack of integrity blah blah mongrels blah blah I wish my club had some balls

- you will weed out flogbag supporters like we did with Phatprick Smith. From the sounds of things the OP is the first.

- you will start winning games and you will not enjoy them any less than you would have under Harvey. People will try and claim that any win is tainted, you will look pityingly at them.

As much as I love Harvs, congrats to Freo on doing what is best for the club.

I will find it amusing if you're here in three years whinging about Lyon.

Some of you guys are acting as if Ross Lyon is the saviour and that success is just gonna happen now. Maybe it will but never forget Malcom Blight and Saints, Denis Pagan and Carlton, and Terry Wallace signed a 5 year contract with Tigers, he was happy but the board would have regretted it rather quickly.

Lots of work to do guys, and while he had a great defensive game plan that worked well on Smaller Etihad stadium, he can't get away with it on a bigger Subiaco surface, but Lyon is a smart man and will work his way around it, surely.

and don't forget Eade. Ross is ONLY going to defensive game plan - if anything he has shown 3 times whilst it can get you to a granny it ain't going to get you to win a granny! He also refuses to change up his plan when the team is losing and the plan not working.

Wut? Ross Lyon needed another 10 seconds last year to be hailed as the biggest hero your club has seen in 45-odd years.

There are only two types of coach. Those who have been sacked, and those who are going to be.

Footy is a business. This happens in boardrooms all over the country every day of the year. It's unfortunate, but it's the way of the world.

Mick Malthouse and Paul Roos were never sacked

Now you're just trolling......

Obviously Lyon's no sure thing, but early on in their tenure it became obvious that Connolly and Harvey were morons and not up to the job. Lyon will make mistakes but he has runs on the board and speaks well.

It's a massive upgrade so I'm :).

I'll give you Roos.

On what basis did Malthouse leave Footscray? And to be told that you're too old and that someone else is taking your job is a nice way of sacking someone.

Certainly got the football world woken up to maybe (just maybe) the Dockers have the nuts to be ruthless.

If you want to win flags, then thats what it takes...now lets see it translate to the playing group too.

Hey Neishaj, You wouldn't be Sharon from Rockingham that just called 96FM that used the term 'Dog Act' several times ?

:D

Can go one of any number of ways though. Blight was a massive upgrade on Watson. Wallace was a massive upgrade on Frawley.

I just find it amusing that you hated Connolly and quickly jumped on the Harvey bandwagon, and wonder how long it will take before you're sulking about Lyon being a mistake. The fact you were shocked that a player like Farren Ray might come to us suggests I won't have to wait long.
