Well this is extraordinary indeed. People mocking someone for having the right to express their decision to hand back their membership. The lack of class from several in this thread is frankly disappointing and this bears all the hallmarks of last pre-season when we were divided over the jumper and logo. To those resorting to mockery as opposed to reasoned arguments, seriously, it's pathetic.

Of course handing back a membership is a very extreme measure and perhaps is taking it a little too far but the essentials of what the OP is saying is correct

The way Mark Harvey was treated was a DOG ACT
The way Mark Harvey was left out to dry was a DOG ACT
The way he was knifed so spectacularly for someone who shits people was a DOG ACT
The way we've now appointed a coach that's going to turn our gameplan into a defensive and dour style is a DOG ACT
The people responsible for this have committed the ultimate DOG ACT

Neishaj - why don't you protest by not posting here until Harves is reinstated ....that will show them!

This is probably the most disgraceful thing I have seen happen in years.

Dane Swan and Allan Didak would beat this hands down on most weekends.

God I am going to laugh my arse off when the Buckley/Malthouse saga drags on next year.

Put a bit of concrete in your morning milo AFL.

We have a 2-3 year period before the rise of the GC. If the club think there is an upgrade at full forward, wing, boot studder or coach - they should take it.

What industry are some of you from? Social Work or Childcare?

There's plenty of concrete here and I've no dramas if anyone resorts to having a go at me

There is also a large difference between a reasoned debate and resorting to mockery and those resorting to mockery need to take a good hard look at themselves

I'm from neither industry either by the way so nice try there

Wut? Ross Lyon needed another 10 seconds last year to be hailed as the biggest hero your club has seen in 45-odd years.

Considering I was front and centre at all 3 I think I can comment. He should have changed the game plan up against Geelong when the talls were struggling to mark in the wet. He should have changed the game plan up when we were struggling for pace, the first time we were in front was well into the last qrt. The only reason we were still in the game was Collingwood kicked shocking.

Don't forget the new Coach you have:
Telling you players you will be there and then quiting DOG ACT
Having your mangagment do contract talks, come to an agreement, then telling them you found your own club DOG ACT
De - Listing 3 (perhaps 4) of your players knowing you are not committed and probably won't be there the following year DOG ACT
Not even informing your captain or any of the players of your choice but leaving it up to the media to break so all players find out via media DOG ACT

Was just about to say the same thing. I know the term has been used for ages, but man's best friend deserves better than to be associated with such a term. You couldn't find a better animal. Most dogs are better than most people I have encountered in my life.

The OP is an overly emotional rant, and in my book when you play the cards 'I am throwing in my membership' and 'you are not a real Freo fan' ...then buckle down cos you going to get some mocking replies.

If you want reasoned debate - then the OP should of perhaps tried addressing the issues. All I heard was -

The industry comment was not directed soley at you, though if the clog fits...

Yet he got you there.....must of been a fluke?

Anyway sounds like we did you a favour seeming he is such a bad coach and obviously related to Satan.

I'm getting sick of this, I just read BLAH BLAH BLAH. Plrenty have said they're unhappy with what transpired but none of you have got down from your soapbox to tell us the right way to change coaches.

Step
1) The club determined Harvey wasn't the man for the job.
2) One of the best coaches in the comp became available and the window of opprtunity was small.
3) The club made the move quickly limiting disruption to our pre-season. Trade week is 3 weeks away.

With that in mind what should the club have done differently?

3) Media outlets rumour all season that this year is make or break for Harvey
4) Freo make finals but exit first week after players are burnt out
5) Weeks of speculation of potential rifts before Fremantle deny Harvey a new contract and state they are in the market
6) Simon Lloyd is announced as caretaker-coach
7) Few more weeks of media speculation involving assistant coaches
8) <insert random available coach> is announced as being the saviour to take the FFC forward

As has been said, people get sacked every day. That's just the way of the world. It must be said though that Harves was happy at Freo, and he was probably well aware that he had the support and respect of us members. Then a big hook appears from stage left, and he is never seen again. This means he is pretty much forced to leave a club he loves on bad terms whether he wants to or not. That must have been hard for him to stomach, and I really feel for the bloke.

Its a shame that you appear to have no room for ideals such as principles and ethics in your life Moo, and its quite saddening to realise that you're not alone.

Proud, loyal, passionate. How many of these words continue to apply to Fremantle?

The OP is an overly emotional rant, and in my book when you play the cards 'I am throwing in my membership' and 'you are not a real Freo fan' ...then buckle down cos you going to get some mocking replies.

It is my opinion that the club's actions are indefensible, and as an individual I am not prepared to have my good name sullied by maintaining a formal association with the Fremantle Football Club as an account holder. Its that simple.

I will continue to support the club, but in the interests of maintaining my own integrity, I feel I can no longer part with my hard earned money to support the organisation. Don't be upset by it, its just business.

They engaged with Ross Lyon and it didn't get leaked to the media, why not afford Mark Harvey the same consideration?

What should they have done differently?

Simple

NOT change coach

Harvey should've been given the chance to prove himself next year with a healthier list.

Had he failed, then yes, he probably would've got sacked and there wouldn't be as many complaints, that's for sure. It would've been sad and I'd certainly be disappointed but I'd accept it.

The way it's been done bears a disturbing resemblance to Julia Gillard and her knifing of Kevin Rudd and such a method is wrong.

Is there a perfect method of sacking a coach and getting a replacement? There never will be a perfect method.

I think it's the manner of execution, the underhandedness and the suddeness of it which has gotten people offside and again divided the supporter base

An absolute truckload of listeners ringing up 720 ABC at the moment echoing the sentiment of the OP.

No way? I thought it would be all the reasoned people who don't want to jump to conclusions and aren;t gripped by hysteria who would be calling up talkback radio?

Can we create a Membership Walk so that all those who want to tear up in their memberships can go to one place. They can march their together if they want.

Perhaps placards.

"We want Harvey - even if it costs us a shot at the finals"
"Never mind the best interest of the clubs - we don't want you to sack the coach"
"Heave the Steves - Keep the Mark"

I'm sure it will be well attended.

Are you kidding? I don't understand. This is what people DON'T want. The whole media getting involved thing and dragging it out. How painful must it have been for Melbourne supporters to wait ALL season for Scully to just hurry up and announce he's ****ing off to GWS?

The fact that it happened so suddenly without a whisper from the media is what is most shocking to everyone. Apparently this negotiation has been in the works for five weeks now, who's to say Mark Harvey wasn't informed about it before?

Why is it having the media involved and having all this bullshit speculation go on for months and months so much better than doing it like this? Is it to soften the blow?

I feel for Harves, I really do, but not many people here thought he was the right guy for the job. Were we going to have yet another year of pissing around with players' positions, Pav in the midfield, more pointing from Johnson etc just so Mark could finish his contract, knowing that we were going to replace him anyway? I'm glad we did this sooner rather than drag the whole thing out. It brings us one step closer to success.

You guys need to remember out of all this, the Fremantle Football club, St Kilda Football Club, Mark Harvey and Ross Lyon, that there is only one loser out of this and his name is Mark Harvey.

St Kilda are a big organisation, Ross Lyon is very wealthy, Freo have got a great coach although will like the losers if this backfires big time.

But Mark Harvey, while getting paid out on his contract, his pride has been whacked from pillar to post, not privately but publically.

So of course this is nothing more than a dog act, and it shouldn't take the biggest die hard freo supporters realise this.

I think you'll find he was taking the pi$$.

Was tongue in cheek - that's usually how it pans out yeh?

Reggie, real life is hard and mean.

Sorry to be the one to break it to you.

You're not breaking anything to me, and I expected better from you. Perhaps I misread your character as it seems I'm out of step with so many things these days.

We haven't seen anything yet with the Free Agency thing coming in next year, I can see a day when players will be signing contracts that expire mid season so they can jump ship to a winning team to chase a flag.
