Review Dogs 105 defeat Crows 55 - Rd 20

I think we can put a line through seeing Steph Martin back in this side. We need to plan for a finals campaign without him.

It was interesting watching the bored guru play with the magnets a bit when the game was well within his keeping going into the last.

He had Hannan and Bruce competing in the ruck and English filling the hole at CHB for much of the final term. I think its a sign of the confidence he has in the squad that should the mids not get the ball at the centre bounce he knows that all that needs to be done is get the ball to ground and the firm of Dale, Williams, Daniel will sweep the ball away with ease.

The extra tall at times of need will help these guys immensely. To think that we have Duryea and Richards to somehow slot back in there next week. Then there is the terrible problem of slotting Adam Treloar back into the side if not this week then certainly the week after. This side is coming to the boil nicely now.

Given how well 15-22 players like Scott, Garcia and Schache played today. I don't envy the job of the match committee over the coming weeks when they will just about have a full book of players to choose from.

We've now won our last 4 at Eureka, let's hope we can make it the fortress Hawthorn did at York Park.

Bont didn't have to be the star today and he only attended 14 centre bounces which is well below his average with Smith taking the majority.

Strange watching games in the position we in. Normally we are finishing the year strong to sneak into the 8. Now I’m just looking for workmanlike performances and no injuries.

With Schache I think we know what we’ll be getting as a defender. Reads the ball well, elite kick, but poor one on one. Would love to see him as the third defender alongside Keath and Gardner

Dale played as well as you can for a half back, his kicking in those conditions was daylight ahead of everyone else.

I hope Dunkley being played as a forward doesn’t continue, Smith’s better on the inside but for team balance I would rather see him on the wing.

Probably the most anaemic response to a game on here all year.

Bit of a valium-dosed win, yeah, but in a howling gale, to get it done easily, with no injuries, while resting Doc, is a solid achievement and moves us one step closer to that McClellan Trophy in our cabinet.

* Bailey Dale is silk and is a certainty for AA HBF for any mammal with 20/20 vision and a functioning cerebral cortex.
* Caleb Daniel is satin (single bed set). A dancing sniper with vision, evasive movement and disposal rivalling Maradona.
* Marra looking more and more at home. Leading patterns and fitness improving. Our F50 hydra sprouts yet another head.
* Schache schachled Tex for the most part, and was great on the intercept and disposal coming outta D50. Perfect 3rd defender.
* Great to see Baz back in the centre for the majority of the match. Disposal not perfect, but good burst from the contest all day.
* English slightly better each week, both in the ruck and around the ground. Great below his knees.
* Sonny hitting bodies like he used to ride waves. Improved kicking, too.
* Bont on cruise control but f*** me he's earned it.
* Liked Hannan's cameos in the ruck.
* Cody is a rascal and I love him.

So much class to come back in. Hope we pants the Bombers and Dunkley goes super saiyan.

Good solid win by a top team who didn’t overextend itself but kept game under control in all the right ways.

The 3 Baileys were impressive. Dale’s kicking is getting to Bob levels and his reading of play, speed and evasiveness is becoming elite, Smith great in the clearances and the physical stuff and Williams continues his return to early season dominance.

Schache was impressive other than a couple of losses in wrestling contests. Zaine was the same - solid on the team defense set up but very bearable one out. Wood brushed the cobwebs off gradually and will be better for the run into finals. Will need him to marshal the team defence until Keath returns. Scott was more than solid today. Probably best game.

Forwards were all contributors today. If they can all click at their best, we are scary. Best Bruce has marked for a while, Jamarra’s tackling was a revelation today - that was more impressive than his classy stuff. Naughton still crashed a lot contests to kill the ball when he wasn’t marking, Weightman and Garcia doing what we need a small forward to do, Hannan solid again, JJ used his pace well today and Hunter becoming sneaky efficient as a part time playmaking forward wing.

English did some things in tight today ruckman aren’t supposed to do. Libber and Caleb are just unique footballers of the highest order ( best goals of the day) and Macrae continues to be criminally underrated as one of the elite players in the league. Dunks will be happy with a low pressure return and Bont was like a Dad hanging around the playground watching his kids do their thing and just doing what only he does when required. Even Roarke had some good assists today.

Most peaceful day at the footy for a while. The neighbours didn’t even know there was a game on today, considering the last few they could have reported me as a public nuisance to the police.

Think Dunks and Bont were on limited minutes today. Both managed while still playing.

He was practising for a late-game scenario in which we need to protect a lead and we send English back. He likes to practice some of these scenarios in an AFL match when the result is out of question. He doesn't get bored. Instead of relaxing and enjoying a comfortable win he tries to find ways to get a bit more out of the match.

Naughton has been looking ordinary since coming back.

How do we fit Bruce, Naughton, JUH, English and Martin all in the same side?
English was a bit off for a few weeks after returning from concussion albeit a longer lay off. Give naught a few weeks.

With respect to Martin, not sure he makes the team provided those around keep performing.

Even before he went down he was good in maybe only half his games played.

No way we should play finals based on a single ruck. Tom Boyd saved our arses when roughy went down in the prelim and I have no desire to see if lightning can strike twice. If Martin is good to go he plays for sure: thats why we drafted him.

I think it's fair to say we've got 5 realistic options to play as the 3 taller defenders (Williams is obviously in, but is more of a running utility).

Keath, Cordy, Gardner, Schache, Wood.

Right now Keath is a lock come finals time and I'd say the other 2 spots are very much up for debate.

Still working so only listened on radio.

Sounds like we did what we needed to go in a junk game(basically what radio said)

Daniel and Dale BOG on radio also.

Imagine us winning and your first thing to do is come in here to talk about me?? 😂😂😂😂. GALFFS

Should I bother watching the replay as radio said it was a poor game to watch?
Watch the first quarter for a bit of Marra magic.

Did we we needed to, and put a bit more percentage distance between us and Geelong which might be helpful.

Happy to see Schache backing it up. He looks really calm and confident down back.

Garcia did some good stuff and JUH has been good. There are times he looks a little off the pace defensively but he’s hitting the scoreboard most weeks. Has definitely met expectations.

Daniel and Dale were awesome, and all things considered English gave a good account of himself. Even if Martin doesn’t make it back I’ve got a lot more confidence in him in the middle than I did last year.
