The gap between the top 2 and the rest in Goal Assists is also massive

I dont think theres anything more beautiful in the game than watching Ed Richards stream forward and punch a ball low, hard and at velocity.

Not one for wasting time kicking the ball in with slow and high loopy kicks is Ed.

I know we all love Liber, but he gets nowhere near enough credit for the football he’s producing at his age.

For reference he was in the same draft as Gaff, Swallow, Heppell, Prestia, Guthrie…. Blokes who are either out of the league or just hanging on. Luke Parker is probably the next best performer still on a list.

Zero signs of slowing down. Such a star.
It's the elite level of consistency that places him above all others from his draft year. Which is astounding for a guy who's had two career threatening ACL's.

It's befuddling that he's never been awarded AA recognition. Ive always maintained that he's seen as a bit of an eccentric scrubber. When in reality he's as football (and real world) smart as any player currently in the game.

As I mull over last nights romp in the park. One thing needs to be said. I think Luke Cleary has had that moment in his career that Im pretty sure we've all experienced when starting a new gig. Its the 'I can do this' moment when it all starts to fall into place. Ive been coming around to the idea that he is a Bailey Dale analogue who was thrown into a position that he wasn't physically ready for before his time. But his time has now arrived.

I think that the coaching panel have handled him beautifully. Sent him down when required to work on his deficiencies. Rewarded him with promotion when he's reached those markers. But they have always kept faith in their belief that he has a role to play in the side.

Early in the game Cleary had to stick tough tackles and make strong plays and he did. It was a big step forward

I thought Cleary was fantastic. Best game for the club I think. Did stuff that was previously a weakness such being strong in traffic and getting a kick off under pressure. Will solve a big problem for is if that game becomes the norm.

The fact that we are now getting Lobb to relief ruck so that Darcy can stay forward tells me we are going all in on offence. I like the strategy - let's play to our strengths. If we can't stop the best sides from putting up big scores then let's just try to score more.
Reminds me of the Pacers in the NBA. They give zero ****s about defence, half their games seem to end up 120+ each way shoot outs because they are so strong on offence. Got all the way to finals before an Achilles injury to their star player capped off their season (like Bont doing an ACL in the prelim)

Don't think I've ever seen a better contribution from our bottom 6 players, what a difference it makes. Almost a flawless performance across the board against a very good team. Great to see us finally put it all together. Great night.
Absolutely spot on. That was my angst in my criticism, the poor performance of the 'bottom 6 to 8' players.

Aaron Naughton impressed me last night, him and darcy in september would scare the shit out of defenses.

It was amazing to see the pre-game interview with Naughton and Darcy. Naughts is 195cm and Sam made him look like a kid.

I’d take the performance of role players in 15 goal wins with a grain of salt. Everyone looks good when the going is that easy.

Hopefully they live up to the moment against Freo in the last round and a final the week after. That’s when the turning of corners can be proclaimed.

Don't.

Only English looks anything tall next to Darcy. Cadman & Busslinger are both over 6ft 5 & they look like midfielders compared to Darcy. I was looking at them thinking "gee they look small for key position players " It's just the Darcy effect.

Pacers were an underrated defensive team come playoff time with Nesmith & Nembhard being absolutely terrors on the perimeter.

Your point stands though in regards to us, the longer we can keep Darcy and Naughton in the forward line the better. Last two weeks Darcy has had 91% and 94% game time, up from his usual low 80s which can only result in good things for us. Also having him out there towards the end of quarters when defenders are knackered is just a must.

After the game Sam stood between Montagna and Dunstall. They barely came up to his shoulders, their heads tipped back to speak to him  . They were obviously relieved when Bevo stepped forward next.

Cops an absolute beating as well but never comes off...

Hope he has a very relaxing October and November, because he's copping hits to his already sore ribs every single week!

Unbelievably gutsy performance from him over the last month.
(But his body is going to need a decent rest before too long...)

Fwiw, I've seen some differing opinions, but from the angles I saw, Poulter's dribbler clearly hit the padding on the post.
Unlucky it bounced straight for as long as it did!

Any reason they didn't use the edge technology?
