The Board will be Negative for a while Sadly:(

Few Wins would not make it as bad and we can win a few of those

I'll say it now. We're going to be in for a tough 4 weeks.

Flattered by the draw and we will be in for some hard lessons.

I suspect you are bang on here unfortunately. I want us to hit the GWS game hard, that is a big opportunity for us.

As for the OP, we will find out how we compare when we play them. No use over analysing it until then.

GWS we have a chance against but I wouldn't be surprised to see 4 straight losses. Bitchez will be getting hysterical.

I think most pies fans would agree with that article, the media just hates the idea of us winning!

We can't help that we have had an easy draw, you can only beat what's put in front of you!

North Melbourne were top four last year and Essendon made finals. GWS or Eagles was not expected to be so high on the ladder this year. Its only been an easy draw in hindsight to some extent.

Robbo just said there's 8 teams in the top 8 we haven't beaten yet.

Just have a look at the top 8 and tell me what's wrong with that comment?:drunk:

It's been said many times, we are our own worst enemy :P

the "you haven't beaten anyone yet" comment is getting very tired. if 99% of pies supporters were predicting a GF on the back of currently being 4th we'd deserve it but we ain't.

must be a slow news day. KB lead off with it this morning as well.

if we can win 2 of our next 5 I'm happy.

The major flaw with this article is that it states our ladder position is irrelevant because of the draw, and then almost immediately turns around and says every other teams ladder position is not irrelevant at all and where these teams are it is indicative of the football they've played, its remarkably stupid journalism.

Different teams have different form lines, when we played Adelaide they just came off demolishing the Roos and were playing the best footy in the comp, Richmond as we've seen are now probably the in form team, Geelong have been ebbing and flowing. The Essendon team we played then was in much better form then it is now, beating the reigning premiers a few weeks prior.

If we beat GWS on Sunday and they go on to lose their next 4 games, 'Collingwood beats finals contender GWS' in 4 weeks becomes, 'Collingwood still hasn't taken top 8 scalp this season'.
If North win all their games from now on, and finish top 4 by seasons end, we'd have officially beaten a top 4 team.

Whilst the doggies have played some fantastic footy and we undoubtedly have had an easier draw, basing an argument on ladder positions is remarkably stupid.

I can see what's gonna happen when we lose a few of these games in a row. Media will be like "See told you Collingwood are no good". It's so predictable.
100%. Like we were buying our grand final tickets.

We Beat North who made the PF last year
Exactly. That's what's nonsense about this article.

People can spin it any which way.

Is it better to beat a team who is doing well this year, or did well last year?

In the same article they claim that we are rubbish because we have only beaten teams like North (12th), but then later on go on to say that North are better than their ladder position would suggest, thus making the first point moot.

Just a lazy article.

The guy goes on about how low our opponents are placed - along with WC and GWS - that's because all three of those sides keep winning! Likewise North and Port have played high-placed teams because they've lost a few. Are North Melbourne really the 12th best team?

Newsflash - when you win games, you push your opponents down!

I posted this in response to FoxFooty sharing the article via Facebook.

Yet Bulldogs lost to Saints and Melbourne, teams they should've beat. Not surprising you guys post an anti-Collingwood article, which goes with your commentators constantly sticking it every time we play, and making every opportunity to have a crack at our club.

It's like this was a response for cocky fans getting ahead of themselves, we're not. We know Hawthorn, Sydney, Freo are light years away from us, 7-3 with the young players we have and hardly any key injuries. I'm happy but I know we aren't a challenger.

Good try.

I think gws will beat us....we will beat the dogs freo will smash us....close game against dogs ill say we will win....hawthorn no chances and win against eagles...we will beat port and lose to sydney ad it is at the scg

Sometimes I think all this talk of having a 'soft draw' is just that, talk.

Every year there are upsets which can't come down to the fixture, irrespective of whether you look at it from the point of view of that particular season, or the where teams finished the season just gone. What it comes down to is focus, discipline and making sure that you are up for the fight week in, week out. When teams aren't on their game, they get rolled, whether they're the bottom team or the top team.

The bottom teams, whilst not having the same talent as the top teams, are quite capable of causing an upset, however when a better team is focussed they are able to match the lower team's intensity and get over the line by virtue of their superior talent. Part of this comes down to having a gameplan, players knowing it and then players executing it. Ross Lyon is a master at developing this and ensuring that his players are up week in week out.

Winning builds confidence and momentum, and most importantly, belief.

Take Richmond this season. They are currently surfing a wave of positive momentum, a wave which we unfortunately seemed to start. Port on the other hand are desperately trying to find their belief and create some momentum. I fully expected Port to beat Richmond a few weeks ago on talent alone, however Richmond, whilst not lacking in talent, outplayed Port as they were more focussed and brought a greater intensity. At the end of the season, if Port don't make the finals, Richmond's win away shouldn't be seen as part of a 'soft' draw, but a win where they were the better team on the day. If they make the finals, then it's likely that they would've been the better team on the day on a consistent basis.

Hopefully we can beat the Giants this week but I can't see us winning the following week..

All nonsense aside though I think the bye will really help us. We're a young side and the kids will really benefit from the rest Hoping we can transition Reid/Greenwood in at some point during our difficult patch also, will only help.

They're only stating a fact, we've only beaten mediocre teams. However, looking at our upcoming draw, it's really not that different compared to our first half of the season. They just need to accept that we will be 5-6th when we are only a 8-9th team. Every club has had a good draw soemtime in their history, and this year is our turn.

We've won precisely as many games against top 8 sides as Hawthorn has - 0. Adelaide and West Coast have won 1 each. Yet this keeps being brought up about Collingwood only..

It's been said many times, we are our own worst enemy :p

True enough.

But I still don't think this guy is truly one of us...

I'm glad we're coming up at the same time as the Dogs, North and the expansion teams. Seem to be decent supporters, just happy to be seeing their teams play decent footy. Would expect the fixture to start reflecting that in the next 3-4 years with more games head to head with those teams.
