West hitting the too small celly after the shrug and goal was a fun moment. We couldn't dream of doing that.

We are a team full of kids, poor leaders and bad footballers.
Expected result for a boring side with a coach who couldn't motivate a drowning man with a life raft.

Watched all of your matches this year. Don’t agree tonight was the theme of your year, it was just a really bad night. Midfield taught a lesson, backs stood no chance and the forwards were starved. When you got quick ball through the middle, you looked effective and dangerous. It just barely happened as you received a Bont/Libba/Richards/English and friends happy hour love in.

There’s always next week. Things turn fast, the margins are still thin.

Ps, your tackling lacked the extra 5% mongrel. We seemed to always get the last pass out

seen several of your posts praising the last 5 weeks we've had, how is it any different to previous years of beating wce/north/melb and even WB? for years now we've bearly beaten west coast/north and we're still struggling. there's literally been 0 improvement over the past 3 years

Wasn't praising it, just pointing it out as a block of games in which we have shown improvement in different areas, especially in certain defensive aspects of our game. It was in response to some saying there was "literally no progress at all" which is a load of hogwash and you know it. And we judge on blocks, not individual games.

As for why it's "different", no one said it was in regards to our prospective ladder finish, however we've made about 20 list changes in the last 2 years with a focus on blooding games into youth and most would've had us worse/losing those games in 2025.

Most were thinking we'd go in underdone and hope for small signs in big losses. We've defied that so far. Instead of lauding them for that or giving them the benefit of the doubt we're getting melts after one game. As if no one expected drubbings this year considering the demographic we're going with and the build we're on. Like get real.

Mate, you bitch us regularly. I appreciate the sentiment, but **** me.....

The players are lucky it is not the 80s as they would be taking a dip in the bay at 5am!
No they are unlucky. I was listening to Roosy talk about R Walls and how privileged he felt to live in an age where masculinity and stoicism was celebrated and it is sadly lacking to today. It’s a must listen, the first time I’ve ever heard Roosy choke up on emotions.

Us feeble human beings were made for carrying a weight. You take the weights away you take away the purpose. This imo is why we lose to many young men too soon.

we suck again GIF
Again ? when did we not suck ?

Watching the game it looked worse than a 90 point loss.

Laverde - got embarrased by west. But even poorer was lack of leadership for a senior player. How poor was it watching him just stand next to west after he did a too small celebration too a young teammate. Not even a scuffle. Thanks for your service shouldn't play again. I turned off after that.

Not changing the bont, English, dale match ups.

Mcgrath and shiel taking kick ins. Bitchers of bomberland.

You can lose by 90 points but some of the above is inexcusable.

Laverde, goldstein, shiel, Langford, should all be dropped.

Scott should also spend a week coaching vfl as well. Hope the reviews challenges poor coaching as well.

guelfi, johnshon, visenti, menzies/Cox/gerryn.

Also merret carrying something? A lot of time fwd the last 2 weeks and shanking more kicks.

This loss just shows we need to double down on approach and list rebuild.

We have to many holes to throw multiple low 1st rounders at reid/butters.

A bad week with the Jones resigning, poor effort and coaching. So I'm going to wipe the whole week. And be optimistic come selection time that this club isn't gutless.

Horrible performance across the board. Highlights that the review they did at the end of last season was right and the list is not good enough to take the next step but that is not an excuse. They failed to be up for the game and they payed the price you pay for doing that at AFL level. Players and coaching staff have to wear than one. It is their failure.

As for some of the commentary about Scott should have made this more or that move, well it is not really realistic. When you come out to play and you are not 100% on then the moves do not matter. The criticism should be how did the coaching group fail to motivate the players in what was the next game to show where they where at as a group against a side in the 8.

I do wonder if deep down a lot of the players know they do not have the next step in them. We keep failing the bigger tests. They are obviously not oblivious to the fact the club has actually said we need another rebuild. It must be in the back of their heads and clearly it is a part factor when we play like last night.

It is pretty depressing but it is our lot. You can not fumble 6 or 7 years of a list build and run through several coaches and expect it to come up looking great every week. Injuries are hurting us but the thing that hurts us the most in my opinion is we are what we built. A list that is good enough to win games on our terms and knock a better side over if they are off their game but that is us. It is like Dodoro as a recruiter. A guy who made some good picks and found some diamonds in the rough but never quite did enough to bring the players needed to take the next step. Not saying it is all his fault. The fact we had to do a review to work out football department spending was close to the worst in the league says it all.

We are simply the product of what we have sown in the last 15 years. Bad decisions at board level as far as being motivated by profits rather than wining football games. Very bad decisions as far as what went on when Hird / Bomber / Cochran where in control. Average list building. You can not build a race car with cheap parts.

As predicted by many of us. Lots of youth that won’t be able to hold form every week. Plenty of older guard that have been in poor or indifferent form. Too much reliance on a few key players leading to overload. A few key injuries.
It’s the standard AFL free fall coffee blend. Drink it up.
Don’t enjoy the dead cat bounce next week too much!
Langford is really standing out though isn’t he? What the hell is happening?

Our team is a product of our training standards.

The team falls apart when asked to play physical contested football and has for a long time because they largely don’t have the size or inclination to play that way.

See the Essendon Edge stuff from last season and how the team didn’t have the motivation to sustain it.

But the Dogs have plenty of players who have turned their careers around. They are definitely invested in Bevo and he has them up 100% and playing out of their skin.

Where is our fight? Players are jogging and not even getting close to their direct opponent, broken tackles everywhere. You don't have to be elite to be hard at the ball.

Scott should have blasted the players for that.

Dogs are still to prove they can get over other top 4 contenders. On top of that they are a different beast. They won a flag. They have won finals.

I suspect Scott is not blasting them in public because the playing list knows that in the next few years there is a real chance many of them who have been comfortable in the system will be moved on. Personally what the coach says in public is of little interest to me. I am not a fan of his waffle at times but I am not one who hangs on the words that are said in public. He has roasted them a few times behind closed doors.

The club remains rotten and spineless it's that simple. These performances are in our DNA and while we keep turning up and producing this same shit, another generation of young guys learn to accept the same amateur mindset and output. Prolonged failure is by design, as is prolonged success, and there are many examples of both in the league.
We need to pay out yet another ill conceived contract extension given to Scott and GET HORSE

Dogs certainly took a massive dump on the dons last night. We got a bath in every aspect of our game.
It’s been talked up as a reality check. Is it really? We’ve seen this movie many times.
I would expect and accept competitive losses in a team full of youth in a rebuild year. But we currently have many players in the current 23 who have years of experience to help mentor and inspire them but there is too much complacency among some of them. The leadership group has to stand up in these games and inspire the group but was a total capitulation last night.
We have one really good player in Merrett to carry us through the season. He’s not exactly surrounded by stars on every line. Doesn’t matter what coach we have the cattle isn’t there.
I really feel for the supporters who haven’t seen a flag but it looks years away. That said Reid, kako, caddy, and Roberts showing real promise of emerging youth in the game (not sure any stay at ess). I look forward to watching them over their careers.

Yesterday was just a simple checkmate where the limits of the list was exposed. Bulldogs are better than us in all areas of the ground.

I'd like to say we're better than that, but the margin really should've been much much worse. We had zero answers to anything they did. I'm not really too upset in that it shows us where we're truly at, but this off-season needs to see a serious change to our midfield and forward structure as well as our team selection policy.
