Genuine shame about Sanders, he was excellent and we have to rejig our structures we had planned.

If Sanders is a confirmed out, it might open the door for Treloar.

In: Darcy, Dale, Treloar
Out: Emmett, Bramble, Sanders

If Dale and Darcy are fit for next week, are Emmett and Sellwood most likely to make way?

Feel like it’ll be a tough choice between Sellwood/Jaques/Bramble for that last defender spot

I’m taking Jacques or bramble out before sellwood for Dale on tonight’s game

Everytime I watch Hynes he looks more and more like 16/17 Dunkley when he was playing half forward. Very impressed. Him and Jones look so much better than McNeil and VDM on the eye test.

Makes good decisions with the ball and is a bit of a battering ram. A lot to like going forward

Damn, very disappointing about Sanders, he was excellent tonight but glad nothing serious and should be right for GWS round 1. We can cover that spot with Freijah / Libba around the ball a bit more and then interesting to see if Treloar or Dale are fit and comes in for him or if it not I'm guessing it would be Luke Kennedy from those who missed.

These new rule changes might have the most positive impact on English than any other ruckman.

More jumping, less wrestling, less boundary throw ins means someone like English is advantaged significantly.
He could finish top 10 in the brownlow because of this rule change

Hynes is a more naturally gifted footballer. Both with his kicking and especially his hands. Notwithstanding that Dunkley has turned himself into the best defensive midfielder in the game.

I swear we are the only team that has players even get assessed for the type of stuff that happened to Sanders. Other team don’t even take their guys off.
Our club and medicos are also being sued for players with past concussions so yes we would be more cautious

With Sanders and his concussion my mind wandered back to 2016 and the PF with the injury to Rough. He wouldn't have played on the GF.

My point is the concussion protocol is so cut and dried and the head isn't like that, it's not simple, there are plenty of nuances.

So I get the need to be conservative, but it gets a bit ridiculous sometimes.

The thing that impressed me was it felt like we actually had a balanced team on the field where players play in the position they've been developed in, and where their skills are relevant and work off each other.

Hynes a bigger bodied forward. Jones a player who is clean and attacks contests at pace. Sellwood spreading and using his long kicking. Budarick being composed in decision making down back and reading the play. Croft using running power and working with Naughton who provides pressure, second efforts and groundball stuff not expected of a taller forward. Kennedy and Freijah rotating into the midfield when Bont was resting, to give us a more balanced midfield structure with enough physical 190+cm big bodies. Khamis working off smaller forwards to get into space, with JOD bulking up to take pressure off Lobb, who can use his kicking a bit more.

Sure, the talent is maybe not like what it was in 2021, but our team seems more thoughtful in list management to best 23 pipeline, with VFL development deliberate to highlight strengths and ensure more players are playing natural positions and given tasks and skills that don't overlap.

When you look back at our 2021 team, it's amazing how many players would play makeshift positions or roles. It was a very good team and Bevo was very good at distributing talent across the field, but there wasn't harmony. We had recruited a bunch of oustanding midfielders but had not developed players over several years to fill the in between roles. It feels like we have now, so we just need to hope that our midfield remains rank 1 like it has for pretty much the last 6-7 years.
