My thoughts on Saturday's game :

Decent effort by the Dogs, showed glimpses of accountable football, but still not as hard as I would like them to be. Significant difference between the Lions size and physical development compared to the dogs, only Grant, Darcy, Robbins and Hahn competed in physicality.

Wiggins I thought was great all day, showed aggresiveness and attack on the ball, presented himself well, should be given every chance to play FF this year.

Hahn was fantastic, mixed it up with the Fab four (minus Lappin) and came out on top. We have to play this guy in the guts all year, I would hate to see him dropped from the ones, he is a real goer, deserves to be a regular senior player.

Skipper showed that he can make it, needs to develop physically, once he has bulked up he can be anything. Feed him carbos and lock him in the weights room, then let him loose.

Birss displayed the good and bad aspects of his game, his decision making and disposal in some passages of play was disappointing. However he did show some ball winning capability and was prepared to go in and under packs. Not bad but will be on the fringe for the first game.

Eagleton did Ok but still made significant errors, he had the chance in the third quarter to pass to 3 unmarked players dead in front of goal, but chose to blaze away instead, he invariably missed. Good aspects were some nice tackling and endeavour to win the ball for himself. Should get a guernsey against Geelong.

Bassett impressed me with his discipline and negating skills will prove to be a handy pickup for us. He may find it difficult against fast leading forwards, but can stand the less mobile forwards.

Of the senior players, Grant, West, Kretiuk were great, Grant demolished Brown and showed what a class player he is, hopefully he puts in these masterful displays during the real stuff.

I also managed to see the last quarter of the Werribee game, I wasn't impressed with Bowden, absolutely lazy, for a bloke trying to crack a senior game he showed no desperation and non-existent second efforts. Does not deserve to play seniors unless he strings some bests at Werribee. If he doesn't then I would be tempted to place him on the long term injury list with CFS and promote Boyd who showed everything that Bowden didn't.

Also Garlick, was he up forward the whole game too? Did he do any good?
I thought Garlick was close to BOG sharing it with Hahn.
Wiggins will be our FF no doubt and impressed.
Grant showed why we have all been screaming for him to play in the backline.
Darcy was great in the ruck (noone else to help him though i`m afraid).
Basset was good (though i thought he was bigger than that).
Browny was good and is going to be dangerous around goal this year, he`ll kick plenty.

I was with a few blokes on Saturday and when the two sides were on the ground, one of them (who did not follow either side) said look at the size difference. He reckoned it looked like the Under 16`s about to play the seniors in local footy.
The size of these Interstate players and how much physically stronger they are over our blokes is unbelievable. When Brisbane hit our blokes on Saturday they stayed hit. I thought we were going to need body bags there at the start when Guido & Johnno were cleaned up (fair bumps i must add).
I was also with a West Coast trainer at the weekend who said that their players definately take longer to get over knee, ankle and general soreness after playing on the Teltsra Dome surface and reckons the West toasters hate playing there.
Its a bloody worry that ground.

We have been discussing this very point over the last week or so about the club perhaps having to change some of our drafting philosophies in order to get some physically bigger players onto the list.
It does stand out when you play a team like the Lions
