Chris Grant’s dominance at centre half-back and Nathan Brown’s seven goals from a forward pocket have lifted the Western Bulldogs to a 35-point win against Port Adelaide in a Wizard Regional Challenge Series match at Nuriootpa’s Centennial Park on Saturday.
The Dogs set up their 15.14 (104) to 10.9 (69) victory thanks to a five-goal spurt with the blustery wind late in the second quarter.
Grant had much the better of former Kangaroo Stuart Cochrane and Brown beat off two opponents – Kane Cornes and Jared Poulton.
Centre half-back Matthew Bishop and forward-midfielder Stuart Dew (three goals) were Port’s best.
The Dogs were without Simon Garlick, Scott West, Jordan McMahon and Steven Kretiuk from their regular side, while Port was severely depleted without Matthew Primus, Darryl Wakelin, Brett Montgomery, Damien Hardwick, Adam Kingsley and ace forwards Warren Tredrea and Chad Cornes.
