Dogs smashed the Hawks last year so this result was hardly a surprise. Don't see why it should really change anything odds wise.

Hall was impressive tonight but playing against an undersized Hawks defense made it pretty easy for him. I doubt he will find it that easy against Geelong or St Kilda.

You're probably right, but against the other 13 teams he may. If he only gets a couple against Geelong or St Kilda, so be it, but mark my words, his presense will account for many goals to other players around him.

Like when he gives away a couple of 50m penalties to the opposition.:D

NAB Cup or not, one things for sure.

They mean business this year.

They are a contender, but to me tonight gave nothing away.

They are famous for blowing early. Hawks played at 20% the Dogs their abouts, no different to recent years.

I would be more impressed if they showed a bit of experimenting and idled along.

Not scared of them on tonights form, no shit we always tank this game each year.

Dogs looked good. I couldn't work out the Hawks. They got many to come back in? They looked appalling. Hard game to assess cos one team was just so bad.

5 years and counting of a thrashing in round 1 of the nab, followed by a tank.

Clarko has his ways I guess.

More questions about the Dogs showing all guns if you ask me.

I think not......

The Dogs have plenty more in reserve.....not sure if the same can be said of Hawthorn. This is the year the Hawkers will prove that 2008 was a Bradbury premiership.

We experimented by playing a tall forward last night... While it's only early it seems the experiment might pay off.

They looked very rusty tonight, missed a lot of targets. It is only Feb and they have a lot of room for improvement which is good for them to be cruising in 2nd gear.

Where does that leave the Hawks then :p

The thing is, that's pretty much the best Hawthorn's defence will be able to muster bar 1-2 players.

If they get smashed in the middle like they did last night then they're going to struggle big time.

Boy, I'm confused. Last week we were obvious top 4 locks. This week, it's obvious we're going to struggle.

I hope we win our first game against the Demons, so we can we be top 4 locks again.

(Unless of course we lose our second game, in which case, it will be obvious that we're going to struggle)

Sorry, didn't they do everything but lose to the Demons last year in the first round? And what was the harm of Dogs showing 'all guns' when they won by 10 goals?

Meanwhile, Previous notable preseason grand finalists:

Essendon 1990
Hawthorn 1991
Essendon 1993
North Melbourne 1998
Essendon 2000
Brisbane Lions 2001
Collingwood 2003
West Coast 2005
Geelong 2009

9 out of the last 20 Preseason grand finals have provided a Premiership season Grand Finalist. I know some duds have won it aswell, but its not a bad form guide IMO. 5 Premiership winners.

Look I have no opinion on how the Doggies are travelling and they are certainly at least there-abouts, but playing their relatively best side and being predictable is worth no more than a short well done to them.

Hawks didn't care, and my gut feeling was that we are even better than the Dogs than in previous years.

Just my opinion.

Geelong have been very predicatable over the past 3 years.

My gut feeling is that we have also improved, a bit is this was on show last night.

Don't kid yourself....we rarely get past the first round of the pre-reason comp.

What I learned from last night;
  • No reason why the dogs won't be up there again if we get all the right blokes on the park at the business end
  • Barry Hall will be real asset with the sort of delivery he will get from the dogs players. He will however come up against better defenders than Gibson. The only bloke Gibson ever played well on is now in the same side.
  • Hawthorn have plenty of upside and you can't read anything into last night. Having said that, there was little to be positive about other than young Peterson.
  • If you are relying on Renouf or Skipper to beef up your ruck divsion, you're in trouble. Taylor is a spud.

alright you know you're stuff no probs with all that. But our biggest strength is team work so those focusing on individual weaknesses like the ruck will underestimate us like in 2008.

Both of us are up and about IMO.

Geelong have earn't all the accolades, we have the chance too.

Dogs have a last chance too.

IMO I just don't see much more than recent years with them.

Fair enough...not exactly a revelation. We've made the prelim the last two years so I'm happy if we simply look the same...plus a key forward and a fit and firing Murphy and Cooney with full pre-seasons under their belt.

Let me say this. You are better than most teams and no doubt in the fight. But if you think I am being harsh it is justified. The last 1 percent that it takes to win a flag is what it is all about.

If you do ityou will know what I mean. You are good enough.
