You know I read these boards a lot these days without really ever feeling the desire to post and I have to say I don't usually find myself agreeing with your sentiments...until now. Maybe I'm a little too deflated over bowing out how we did, maybe I'm just reverting back to my pessimistic self but to me it just comes across as being a strange mix of being hollow with a hint of desperation. Not the most comforting address

Given that you have no idea what to do after your degree and that there seems to be a shortage of jobs for your age group, maybe you should apply for his job in 2017, seeing as you think you can do it better than him.
No way not a pencil neck!

Unpopular opinion but covered my feelings as well.

For what it's worth, I didn't find this year's speech by Ross anywhere near as impressive as it has been in the past, either.

Looks like he's preempting that the media will have him as their number one target for being sacked next year. They always go after one coach to help create some headlines, and I'd say that either Ross Lyon or Chris Scott will be the ones in the crosshairs in 2016.

Buckley, Leppitsch, Eade

Thank you Ross for the faith you have shown in our club and our players, and listening to that speech it was obvious to me how much it means to you to lead us to a flag.

I would rather have an unscripted "from the heart" speech from Ross than a glib rah rah about how good we are or how good we are going to be. He has acknowledged that he needs o get better, and that we have a lot of work to do. But he is up for the fight.

He is not the messiah, but he is ours and we should get behind him, not snipe at him from our keyboards.

Buckley is a possibility, but he has too many friends in the media. The amount of headlines I saw about Collingwood's amazing, young list in 2015 was ridiculous. Those three coaches have the advantage that their teams are rated very low right now, so all it will take to get a pass mark is to make a slight improvement. Gold Coast (without injuries) and Collingwood will be expected to reach the finals, and Brisbane will be expected to get out of the bottom four.

The problem for Ross Lyon is that as soon as we're not in the top four and pushing for a premiership, they'll be nipping at his heels. Chris Scott is another who'll be feeling the heat if this Dangerfield/Henderson/ZSmith trade period doesn't revitalize them and have them in the top four once more.

The pressure will always be highest on the coaches that have been around the longest. Clarkson, as reigning premiership coach, is safe. Brad Scott, Hardwick and Buckley have "youthful lists" and don't need to be landing premierships just quite yet (as long as they are getting to, and are winning finals). The highest pressure will therefore be on Longmire, Lyon and Chris Scott...not all of them will be in the top four, and those that are not will have the media calling for their heads.

When the current coaches commenced their reigns:
2005 - Clarkson
2010 - B Scott, Hardwick
2011 - Longmire
2012 - Lyon, Buckley, C Scott
2013 - Leppitsch, Hinkley
2014 - Simpson, Roos, Cameron, Richardson
2015 - Eade, Beveridge
2016 - Pyke, Bolton, Worsfold

Whilst not having done as much research on this, I am not sure about your hypothesis. Coaches may have some initial good-will period, but don't think this lasts longer than the initial season.

The main measure will always be performance vs expectations. So coaches of clubs that massively underperform will always be under the microscope.
But in relation to tenure, I think coaches that have been longer at a club are SAFER than say 2- or 3-year coaches. If they were a bad fit or not up to it (see Mark Harvey) they would have been found out and moved on already (some of the current list may fall under this category). They would also have established a good record over their tenure overall (as have the Scotts, Longmire, Lyon and obviously Clarkson on your list, but not Hardwick).

I think expectations at the moment are quite inflated (just count the number of clubs who think that they should be in top8 next year), so I would expect quite a few coaches to be under the pump relatively quickly. But I can't see C Scott or Lyon to be first in line ...

I found it tough to watch personally. Regardless of your views on his game plan and his player selections, surely nobody can question his work ethic. I think he's genuinely exhausted and gutted after that season. It promised so much early on but fell away even though we were perfectly positioned with the home finals for a tilt. He has placed so much faith in his key planks (Sandi, Pav, Macca, Johnno, Ballaz, Walters) in the last few years and surrounded them with cattle at his disposal and a game plan that has obviously fallen agonizingly short. I hope Ross can totally switch off and get away from it. The end of that interview showed immense strain.

Yeah, I hope his home life is okay. It's a ridiculous thing to say about a coach of a football team but people either really like Ross or really hate him and to me he's a flawed genius who is my kind of people.

There's potential in Richmond, honestly think they get as high up the ladder in spite of the ordinary coach they have. They have talent but it'll never be realised with Hardwick calling the shots.
or Cotchin as Captain, he is so piss weak.

You have the wrong year for C Scott he has 2011 wasn't he?

Since Lyon took over at Freo there have been 2 coaches win premierships. Something to keep in mind before various muppets toss him on the crap heap.

and only 4 coaches have made the grand final, pretty good effort by Simpson there I must admit
