bout half an hour ago a girl knocked on my door selling raffle tickets

at 5 bucks each i bought a couple (and it had nothing to do with the girl being good looking)

are things that bad that the roos have to door knock

and also probably not a good idea to door knock down my street
being the only australians im also pretty sure my family would be one of very few in the area that know what football is

Door-knocking isn't part of the campaigning as far as I know - I suspect, though, that the girl took the initiative herself. I am not sure whether or not the club would encourage or condone it (To use a broad comparison, Amway salespeople for instance aren't actively encouraged to door knock, but it isn't against the rules).

BTW, if she pops around again, gimme a ring and I'll make an offer for the girl

A friend of mine had a couple of people knock on her door a couple of months back for the same reason - I don't know whether it was because she lived in North Melbourne....

Maybe the powers at Nth HQ are covering every revenue raising avenue including the old door knocker approach.

What are the prizes in this raffle walshy and more importantly, were they a good set of knockers?

A bloke came around last night selling Roo raffle tickets - I obliged with a purchase.
It's a pity I didn't get the "nice looking" girl though !

2nd was a trip for 2 to the gold coast

Walshy... you could have put me down for 10 tickets...

A couple of months ago we had two guys come in selling membership for all clubs and than another time someone selling raffle tickets for the Bulldogs....weird!

MARK HILTON FOR THE SENIOR LIST!

If this is a new club approach, then using volunteers to doorknock is more cost-efficient than sending out (hypothetical guess) 100,000 tickets and getting 3/4 of them sent back unsold, both at a cost to the club. Sadly, I don't think it does much for the club's image.

darky i guess at this stage the roos are putting finances ahead of image
gotta do what youve gotta do i suppose

I'm tipping letting Martin Pike go would have been a harder decision than was evident as he was a great fundraiser for the club. $20 a gram or $120 a quarter was quite a good money spinner for the Blue and White. The old Fitzroy boys were major investors by all accounts!!

Bong On Pikey!!

If this is anything like the raffle ticket sellers on match day... they are not volunteers... they get 50% of the money raised... so Walshy I hope you got your $2.50 worth...

Originally I ws against paying people to sell raffle tickets... but then 50% of something is always better then 100% of nothing...

How anoying are those in your face ticket sellers.
We get them att the time at work. Mostly from Essendon/Footscray F.C's

Never had N.M.F.C so never had the need to buy any. Apart from the book they send which I buy.

Go the Skull !!!

As Malibu said, they came to my door a while ago and I bought a couple. They said that they had sold some for another team (St Kilda?) a little while ago, so I don't think they are volunteers as such.

Soon after I had a guy selling memberships for certain clubs, including North. I tried to tell him that I had one, but he wouldn't believe me till I showed it to him

In South Melbourne, I've had Western Bulldogs and St Kilda, twice each, selling raffle tickets. I've also had 2 guys trying to sell Bummers gear door to door, 2 years ago. Seems it happens to everyone Walshy.
In Malvern, I've had St Kilda door to door Raffle ticket sellers.
St Kilda also had a stall at Chadstone late last year, selling raffle tickets with the car on display.
So there.....

I thoroughly believe that you've got to pick the charities that you support and not be suckered into buying raffle tickets just because the prizes are attractive.

I don't consider Essendon a worthy charity for my hard earned & I make no apologies for that.

I do agree but then I sell far more North tickets to others then they sell to me... and why because not many of my workmates are members of AFL clubs...

That $10 probably earnt North $100 dollars... next time we have a raffle... what do they say... you have to spend money to make money...
