Check out Nathan Freemans results in the combine and tell me he wasn't exactly what the club needs, from memory 2nd in the 20m sprint 1st in the repeat sprints top 10 in the 3k time trial , A player that could burst out of packs and was likend to luke shuey !

He's in the same basket as Masten and Gaff at the moment.

The one thing that differs him from them, is this is his first season.

You've got to trade gold to get gold, and I don't think we've got anyone of currency we can afford to lose to get some bloody talent to assist Shuey on the ball

Still a little too early to tell I reckon but I see your point. I like the 50 game cut off to make a determination.

I still want him played each week though. The deed is done, so lets get as much development into him as we can before we start ruing our choices.

I'm actually annoyed everybody is suddenly agreeing with me.

**** yall. You all threw me over the coals when I suggested Mr Larke Medalist was a wasted pick, and called for everybody to stop calling him Shred.

Now get a load of the band wagoners.
Jeez strong feelings! I'll be more ready to judge after 30-40 more games. He would be training harder than ever before in his life this year as well as adjusting to diet and 2 new teams (east perth and eagles) not sure if his collarbone would have had any effect on his preseason ether. As long as he has a good attitude then he will improve.

I remember half this board writing Mackenzie off when he first hit the AFL stage. ;)
Yeah but McKenzie is nearly 200cm with endurance, all he has to do is chase...punch..receive. Midfielders have go and get their own ball, if they're short then they have to be fast, Sheed could be serviceable but won't be anywhere near elite bookmark that and move on.

Sheed has shown some good signs, its just his hesitation that is hurting him at the moment. Doesn't seem to have confidence. The good news is that these are things that can be fixed quite easily.

Can we fix the fact that he has the running gait of a 60 year old man? :)

I prefer to call him long striding. I don't think he is especially slow, but perhaps lacks acceleration. I'm hoping that can be improved over a couple of preseasons.

He seems to be getting to the right spots, though.

I think you're underestimating the difficulty of playing E-Mac's role.

That gait is still 20 years younger than Dane Swan's...

What I will say though is I reckon you see something in a bloke's first 20 games. It doesn't have to be the complete package - either some dash, or attack on the ball, or creativity in front of goal.

The one thing Sheed does look to have a bit of is composure - doesn't seem to rush.

Like most, we all sit here concerned knowing our abysmal midfield errors and just hope he isn't another.

Good call re Swan!

Him aside, have you ever seen an 18 year old top line athlete with such an I athletic gait?

Agree on that first 20 games thing. He did flash some very good handball skills v Brisbane. That said he was genuinely awful on Friday.

Agree too on the concern. Let's hope we got this one right

Not that he's slow per se... just the least athletic running style I can remember from an 18 year old ...

Darren Glass runs like a bloke with a flat tyre, albeit a lot of that was due to a career of injuries, however he was never exactly pure.

Saw a doco on Usain Bolt's early years the other day, now there was a horrific gait. Clearly improved, but he looked liked a newborn puppy running on an ice rink - mind you, he was still quick, damn quick

for "his sake"? because its HIS fault? he still went pick 11, AFTER all these others. what eagles did even BEFORE he got drafted is not really his problem. at end of day he wasnt pick 6.

i love it how people think that these sorts of tags etc are OK to allocate to people and that its just peoples bad luck as though its some universal law. ease up bro.

I never said I thought he should live with the tag, I said he WILL live with the tag. Just like Swift unfairly lived with the tag of being "The greatest 16yr old Voss has ever seen". I also said I hope for his sake because if he doesn't come good and a midfielder between 6-10 does we will for ever and a day be wishing we didn't pick Shred over player X.

I wish the world was a fair place too mate but it isn't and that's just the way it is. FWIW I personally won't be placing that tag on him (never actually said I would) but if someone does become a better player @ 6-10 I will be wishing we had that guy over Shred.

I think Sheed will be our Watts, as in he'll continually be compared to those picked before him.

I ain't gonna lie, I too get envious when I see someone like Aish take the game on for the Lions. Hopefully he gets his break through game soon. If he was picked a season or two earlier, I reckon he would of grown under the on field leadership of someone like Kerr. As it stands, our midfield consists of average senior players and a few talented kids bereft of anyone to inspire them. Having also ridden the Gaff hype train and seen the erratic form that Masten has been in, its probably best to wait a little while longer before tearing into the poor kid
