Dom Tyson 2018

Not far from the truth tbh. Dom will always be an attacking midfielder, but in today's game where pressure is king, does he provide enough two way running for the side? Goodwin just cut Watts for being a lazy campaigner, so Dom needs to lift in this area as well or be up for trade end of next season. His sole focus over pre-season should be improving his kicking and pressure acts. Dogs and Tigers just won unexpected premierships by applying pressure and hitting targets, something Dom doesn't do well at either...

Both dogs 2016 and Richmond 2017 were poor users of the ball, their strength was they would always win it back through their pressure.

There's no way jack puddings like Balic, Stretch, AVB and Maynard are going to push Tyson out of the team. What a ridiculous assertion.

He's a frustrating player, because he was better in 2014 AND he can kick, just with no consistency to it. He's what I'd call a lazy kick.

But he's best 22 any day of the week and twice on Sundays. I'd argue he's even in the Top 10. 10th in the B&F this year in what was a shit year for him, 3rd in 2016, and 2nd in 2014. That's 3/4 top 10 finishes. But yeah, Balic. LOL.
Disagree. And I think if they're playing better footy than Tyson he needs to make way. I also don't think Goodwin will care less dropping a bloke if they aren't performing.

Dusty Martin led the league in clangers this year at nearly 5 per game
Yep, and Dangerfield would be right up there as well. But these guys break lines with pace and kick goals. Dom has struggled to kick goals last couple of seasons, and if he has a burst of pace, he hasn't shown it last couple of seasons. I'm not comparing Dusty/Danger to Dom, but these guys can get away with a high clanger rate because they get so much of the ball, and have that burst of pace that gets them into space. Plus they both are genuine goal kickers, something Dom needs to do more of as well. In fact, all our mids need to hit the scoreboard more. As good as our midfield looks, we do lack goals from our genuine mids.

Definitely not comparing Dom to those guys, I’m a fan and I think he is a good afl footballer, more goals for sure needed from him and he does need to tighten up his disposal. I hope his best footy is in front of him as he’s yet to play 100 games, he knows how to find it, love to see him take it up a level

Come on mate he wasn't even solid in 2015 but was great last season. I think you can only argue Steven and Ross in your current midfield crop would be better than Tyson. I like Acres and Dunstan still gives me PTSD from around one 2014 but those guys have yet to obtain the numbers that Tyson's been churning out for the last 2 seasons in a better midfield. If Koby Stevens and Jack Steele are making your best 22 as of now you guys have no right to pot our midfield. Mav Weller, Nathan Brown, Josh Bruce from your current team would also be stalwarts of our VFL side yet they're fairly firmly entrenched in your best 22 from last season.

Steven and Ross are many levels above Tyson. We don't have much going for us at present but Ross is a shining light, he is up there with the elite. There is day and night between Ross and Tyson. I would also have Jack Steele a long way ahead of Dom Tyson, and defensive pressure is why I wouldn't compare the two. Jack Steele is an attacking midfielder and applies good defensive pressure. It is not uncommon for Steele to have 10 tackles a game. Dom Tyson just doesn't work hard in this area, he does not chase, he is a very poor defensive player. Even if you compare tackles alone this year - Tyson had 75, whilst Jack Steele had 158. Being that both are second tier mids in their respective teams and take the 3rd midfield role - they need to be working hard defensively and doing all the little things (which Steele does and Tyson just doesn't). As for Koby Stevens, well he missed 7 games and still had more tackles than Dom Tyson. Not only that but Stevens was/is far more effective than Dom Tyson. I have no idea why Demons fans sing this guys praises. Nevertheless, I see some posters have their blinders off and are in agreeance with me. I will call it now but Tyson will be struggling to hang onto his spot after this year. He is a slow and one dimensional midfielder who has no versatility to play elsewhere, and has below average foot skills.

Seb Ross isn’t elite

Yeah no. Richmond first for clangers this year, Dogs 5th last year.
Yeah no. Clangers would more likely equate to engaging in more contested possession than being “poor users of the ball”.

Back on Tyson, I like him but I’m not certain if that’s just one of those things I can’t shake off.

He definitely has value and he’s definitely best 22. But I would like to see him clean up his disposal a fair bit going forward. We tend to use him outside as much as inside - probably because we are pretty well stocked inside - but outside his capacity to turn it over makes me nervous. He’s just not as quick and clean in that area and we need him to be.

I’ll watch with interest anyway. He tends to warm into it a bit, so I hope he can have a full and uninterrupted pre-season. He always seems a bit slow to hook back into the pace of the game when returning from injury so if that can be avoided this year it might go some way to clearing up the question marks I have about him.

I think quite simply simply his beat footy is played when he plays inside as much as possible and he can get his hands on it often. Getting him to play outside seems to be as foreign as Jetta playing in the ruck and it causes him to lose confidence. His best footy was in 14 when he was basically by himself with Jones in the middle, I'm not sure what the future holds for him because Clarry and Trac are far more damaging with their clearances and Viney has to stay on ball because he is even worse outside than Dom.

Viney is better outside than Tyson, his kicking improved this year imo and he has genuine speed.

Yeah that's fair Viney has shown genuine improvement year on year whereas Tyson looks the same player as 4 years ago.

Tyson to me just looks like one of those guys that could very well get pushed out if he fails to deliver as a more damaging midfielder. Coming into 2018 I think the club would really like to see him improve dramatically. Last year I am pretty sure he was hampered by a knee injury during preseason, so if he is injury free this summer I think he has to go up a gear.

He is a really good inside midfielder, but you've got Jones, Viney and Oliver. It's hard to move one of those boys. I'd like to see him get forward a lot more next year and get dangerous in front of goal.

We sing the guys praises because he is actually a really good footballer, but can get lost in a game at times and phase in and out. As far as comparing him to Ross & Steven? Well he has Ross covered, and he is probably on par with Steven.

No and no. Ross wasn't far off All Australian this year, and Steven is a much more damaging mid than Tyson. I think you need to take off your rose coloured glasses champ. Nice that you are backing in one of our own, but no way Tyson is on par with Ross or Steven. Tyson at his absolute best week in and week out yeah, but he hasn't shown that for 2 to 3 years...

I think Viney is a type that will force himself to improve his weak areas.

I was a bit like Biffinator once in that I thought Jones was a bit of a potato - I admired him for his hardness at it and so forth but never thought he could be a good user of the ball.

Viney will improve. As for Dom, he had better keep up.

Viney lives and breathes football, he is the kind of player who I don't feel has a ceiling, he will keep killing himself to improve until his body breaks down.

Nah, Tyson is too slow. It is a shame, I think he has reasonable smarts, and I think he looked quite sharp off the mark at GWS, but at Melbourne he has been too slow. Good first year, solid 2nd, but unfortunately for you blokes he has regressed. I probably wouldn't even take him at St Kilda - which is saying something because we are bog ordinary. Dom Tyson is Casey level. He is just too slow for AFL IMO.
Haha give me a spell.
By no means our best but most certainly in our best 22 which has a midfield that makes yours look like an U16's side.
You have the most 1 paced uninspiring mid group in the comp and you want to talk about regression? Watch your mob go backwards at a rate of knots this year without Roo and Joey.
Now sneak off

Can we not start attacking people just because they’re an oppo poster with a different opinion? He admitted he thinks the saints are ordinary.

Good on him.
Was a fair way off the mark.
You go onto any other oppo board and tell them one of their blokes is no good and see how you go.

I'll take that. I hate St Kilda so won't have it that they have had any player ever better than our Dom.
