Dom Tyson 2018

I thought Dom was pretty serviceable against Adelaide this weekend. Got plenty of time in around stoppages other than centre square, and was able to stay above the tackle and get the ball moving forward. And they weren't all dump kicks - so I guess that's a plus for Dom.
He's a good wet weather player, suits the way he plays.

Brayshaw looked pretty ordinary as a HBF.

Oliver could play forward or outside but like I said he is too good in his current position to change his role
I don’t think he looked ordinary. He wasn’t an instant star, but he hasn’t played there since he got his confidence back either. I am very confident he could play there

Happy to see Clarry rest forward, he’s becoming so fit and he’s way to good to leave on the bench in big games. He has gone past Jones, Tyson and JV at such a rate of knots that it’s frightening.
To be fair he’s gone past everyone, not just Melbourne teammates

His kicking was infinitely better last week, he even burst THROUGH a stoppage with pace then hit a target by foot! Then looked to take simple hit up kicks instead of trying the 60M hero kick

In all seriousness, he's always been a player that needs continuity/fitness/touch and he's played his best footy after a string of games

Good to see him putting it together again, as his early form with us was too good for him to revert to the slow decision making, hack kicking, inside player he'd become

Agree but with the question mark on Viney we should be keeping him.

Maybe. Considering he plays exclusively as a winger now we can play Hunt there as well as developing Baker. Stretch another option for the wing aswell. This year is the last year we might be able to move him on for value.

When he's on song he's very good without starring, and having him playing 100% of his TOG at the coal face allows us to swing our quicker/more athletic mids forward. Still an asset, and I doubt we get anything from the draft which improves our odds of a flag. Just need to ensure he remains aware of his limitations.

He'll ask for a trade. Would have much better job security and a chance at more future cash elsewhere.

Yah I wouldn't have though an 18-22nd picked player at best is getting much coin. Would fit Essendon perfectly and would get the midfield time he needs.

He's still contracted, and wasn't the 18th-22nd player picked when he signed it, so I'd have thought he'd hang in trying to re-establish himself by the time his contract is up, and then look elsewhere if he's not getting game time/enough sheets.

Don't reckon too many borderline 22 players will be jumping ship if they don't have to, with some success seemingly not too far away.

If we get Gaff, get Viney and stretch back from injury and manage to develop baker he will play reserves next year again and at that point the contract offers from other clubs won't have as much value.

I'm speaking more from his point of view, given that if he doesn't want to leave, there isn't much point in the club trying to move him, and I don't see a Watts situation happening, he's good depth. I reckon he'll back himself in to keep his spot in the side next year, and his contract will take care of itself, although I share you thinking that he's a good chance to be squeezed out

Baker is about a million miles away from Tyson's level at this stage, fast and red-headed so people remember him, but he really didn't do much in the VFL by all reports. Stretch had that one good game pre-injury, and I have always been a fan of his composure myself, but short memories around here given more than a few people were calling for his head/list spot at the beginning of the year. Our supporters can be so reactionary sometimes. Tyson has played enough good football and is still young enough to play more good footy and not have to be written off 12 months in advance. GL to him if he leaves for more job security, but I don't think we're a good enough team to start saying who will and won't be starting in a year.

Not having a go at you, by the way, just think the mentality on this board after a few wins often turns into 'well that's the next few flags sorted'. Too much recency bias. A good example was Frost, who has played lots of good footy but was completely written off because of his mistakes by the same people who now love his dash but can't recognise that you have to take the good with the bad when it comes to your bottom five or six players. Same deal with Hunt, who is in the bust cycle right now but a couple of big runs and kicks inside 50 will have him back in the 'promising' basket.

Just on your first point, I dont think Baker is a million miles away at all. Injured at the moment but hes developing nicely and had some very good games at vfl level for a first year player. I reckon hes just the type of player the senior team needs too and should be in the running for a regular spot next year imo. Ive also heard the vfl commentators saying that our coaches are really rapt with the way hes been coming along.

The coaching reports have been good, but its important to contextualise the fact that he was pick 48. Needs lots more VFL time, because the little things that see guys slide into the fourth round are what get exposed at AFL level.

Still not sure there's a place for him if Hibberd Lever and Viney are all fit and especially if Gaff becomes available.

I agree. Think he just misses out on best 22 - but it’s pretty rare that you actually get your best 22 on the park so he’s still very serviceable.

The question will be whether he wants to go to a club where he is definite starter each week.

I think he was Pick 48 because he was a mature age player playing in the NEAFL more than anything else ... which actually makes it pretty impressive he was taken in the 3rd round, and not as a rookie (see your Wagner's and AVB's as an example) Tim Kelly was taken in the 2nd round at 24 with more exposed form out of a competition that is far higher regarded.

That said, he certainly needs more time at VFL level, but if he can start doing what he was doing in the NEAFL, at VFL, and then AFL level, we'll all be in a good place.

Performing his role in Cindy's absence. But he should never kick. Would probably have Bugg kicking for my life over him.
