Well that's some serious 'glass half empty' appraisal of Don Pyke and his first two years in charge taking over the biggest basket case club going around.

Did you think he had a magic wand and everything would be fixed within g 18 months?
Did you think it would get worse with 1 win in a season?

What's his metric for success here?

Just seems like a acceptance of failure

How dare Don Pyke start his new job on the 15th of Jan 2024 and not sack the coach immediately IN THE MIDDLE OF THE PRE SEASON!!

1000 percent should have been sacked January 15th at 12 01am

Everyone knew he was done with. Everyone except the boy's club

Give Schofield a 12 month audition.

Im not sure why this is news to anyone?
How's that fair on the players and Schofield?

You don't just walk in first day and start sacking people, you observe them for a while and see if they're going to be a part of your future vision.

Giving the assistant a 12 month audition, and you're whinging that keeping Simpson on for another year set us back a year? How is that any different?

A CEO doesn't just come in and fire from the hip. They review and assess the position and make measured and informed decisions. Sounds like you're advocating for the club to run in a similar fashion to Carlton has been for the past 30 years.

Do you understand how improvement works? Have you ever heard of the phrase "one step back, two steps forward"?

Improvement? WTF are you on about. We have 1 win for the year.

Ive never heard of taking a step back and two steps forward ever in my life... atleast not from anyone hoping for success. You only move forward if you want to find success.

If we want to be realistic about this 2024 was a step forward and 2025 has been 2 steps back if anything..... Its harsh but true

Fair on the players? WTF are you on about? This isnt a charity.

If you are coming into a company that is on its knees you do not wait 9 months to make a change. You understand the urgency of the situation and get to work on day 1. He didnt do that. He got to work 9 months later. H

Him joining on January 15th was just a waste of 9 months salary

So you've never spent time and money to improve a skill? A business?

Of course there has been improvement. Stop looking at the ladder and watch the damn games. These kids are 19 and 20 years old. We know the senior players will be rotated out in the next couple of years.

Progress isn't always moving forward, nor is it linear. 2026 will be rough but we'll start to see some forward momentum. 2027 is when we can start to expect consistently competitive performances.

Looking at improvement based on wins/losses is an incredibly narrow way of assessing growth.

I mean - we haven't had a 100 point loss this year. Is that not a metric of measuring growth?

And before we jump down the reactionary take of "accepting mediocrity" or whatever - the stark reality is that we do not have the quality senior players for the youngsters to lean on. This is the reality of a young team. We have cut the dead wood, more to deadwood to cut, but there are undeniable green shoots.

H. Reid, Ginbey, Hough, Hewett, Hall, Shanahan, A. Reid, Maric, McCarthy, Gross, Davis, J. Williams are all green shoots. More to add this year in the draft.

Their has been no improvement. Stop looking for things that are not there. The kids are 19 and 20 but they are getting smashed into the ground week in week out. This isnt a good thing we can spin as some form of success. Being young isnt a way out for the club hierarchy.... we cant throw a bunch of 19 year olds under the bus and blame them for the 1 win season. We should blame the people who put them in this position foremost

Progress is always moving forward. Its not linear but its always moving forward. If I went into a job and said "Yeah in the next 12 months we are going to make massive losses and wont be paying any dividends to our shareholders because im going to make decisions which mean we will fail" i am not getting that job, never mind being celebrated for what im doing

Pykes performance doesnt pass the basics of the pub test. Making decisions doesnt automatically equate to success. The impact of those decisions is what matters. The impact is defined by the result. The results are bad. Anything else is just hoping for the best.... but life doesnt run on hope. It runs on reality. The reality shows 1 win... which isnt acceptable

We have cut the deadwood? Gepp, Horsley, the recruiting team in parts, keeping on coaches who had no future at this club (not just Simmo but Webster and Horsley too). Then you look at the playing list and you see us handing out 1 year contracts like they are donations to charity

Quoting problems we know exist and saying that our knowledge of the problem means we are in a good spot just isnt true. The reality is we knew the problem in 2024 and didnt solve it. We tried too, but we failed. Lets not pretend we didnt invest alot of time trying to improve the bottom floor and then lets not pretend the bottom floor isnt still failing.

Understanding the problem exists doesnt make Pyke a good CEO... fixing them is what will. At present he isnt even close to fixing it. The results show that

Genuinely incredible how Schofield saying he liked Harley being a prick in a presser once has made him the coaching combination of Kevin Sheedy and Mick Malthouse to some people

Its incredible how Simmos 2024 season is seen as some form of necessity and success... like firing people mid season isnt the same as firing them mid pre-season.
