I think we would have been better with him. That is not "fixing" a team. We need a burst mid like him :(
Yes we would be better off with him. Of course, just saying he is not the messiah that they media builds him up to be. You need a team to win a flag, not 2 stars such as danger and selwood.. There are other options out there with pace and better disposal than danger, we just need to be aggressive in getting them.

I think this is a basic misunderstanding. Craig wouldn't have wanted players to stick to a certain action if it wasn't on. All players would be told to play what's in front them, it's not a training drill where there's no opposition getting in the way. But rigidly sticking to the same plan is a common theme between them both so far.

Has has to see what works and what doesnt. What if a side gets on top for a quarter and he brings in plan b and we lose when he has no idea if his original plan a would have won the long game. He can now go away and review his game plan and an idea on when to implement improvements. Its extremely hard to do after just one season. Craig had a steadfast way based on a rigid game plan focused on fitness. Did clarkson win a premiership in his 1st year? Lyon won a premiership? Sheedy and Malthouse win premierships every year. Its not easy. Time to stop demanding perfection and give the guy a chance to grow into the job.

After craigs first year what was he then?

Sorry, is that meant to be a point of difference between the 2 coaches that you've noticed so far? Listen, if you can't identify something, then don't bother responding and perhaps just admit that there are similarities at the moment and posters noticing this are just stating what is pretty obvious.

After the tragic events of last year and losing Dangerfield in the off season many on here were predicting that we would struggle to make the 8 with a new coach and new game plan

Good post. I thought we were a solid chance of missing finals entirely. It stings because it opens old wounds to go out like we did.

If you look at it objectively and the season as a whole we did pretty good. Better than I expected at least.

Way too early to know anything about Pyke. I have a mate that supports Hawthorn and he had doubts about Clarkson at several points - thought he was too stubborn. Idoit? Yeah he was.

I don't expect us to win a grand final next year but top 4 is a must. Need to win two finals in a row for a pass.

But we're not talking one quarter.

Geelong demolished us, he had plenty of time after that to review.

Then they demolished us again, we made no tactical changes. More time for review.

Then WCE demolished us with the Geelong game plan.

Geelong moved on Chapman, Stokes, Kelly, Johnson
Cmon....Chappy was years ago. The others made way for who they were getting in. Do you think they still would have done it if those players had not previously agreed verbally to terms?

Lol based on what knowledge of nobles job? Haha stupid post.

So according to you it isn't Pyke, it isn't Noble.. everything is just 100% fine and we should consider trucking along.

"Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results"

I tend to work this angle. The other thing is job security. He would have known the list was there or thereabouts ie was good enough with all the turmoil to play finals. Why would you make massive changes to that? The draw looked horrendous and then it opened up. Injuries hurt any or many opportunities to make changes. 1 step forward 2 steps back.

I do expect and want changes ON and OFF field and to see from Round 1 changes that reflect this 1st year look-see.

If he was worried about his job security rather than taking a shot for glory he isn't the man we need. Give him the boot and get someone in who is going to shoot for the top.

Don't know if it is or isn't either of the gentlemen you named. As to keep on trucking. Yes there is some sanity in doing that. Read my above post for my thoughts. Everything isn't fine , but neither is anything as disastrous or bathwater as you have made it.

Then we should have appointed Crazy Tom to a 1 year contract and let him gut the place. :drunk:

Honestly gutting the place isn't the worst idea, it's better than stalling in mediocrity.

Either we shot for a premiership NOW or we accept it's not going to happen and trade aggressively for picks. No point wallowing in 5-8 for another decade.

So hang on to our old guys because we might not get anyone?

Feel there is a positive from last night if the club makes the right and hard calls. That loss could be the making of our list but we may need to take a step back to proceed two steps forward. We must accumulate first round draft picks by moving players out with currency. Must!

All coaches are stubborn

All of us fans talk about a plan b etc however reality is that gone are the days where coaches make a lot of changes on game day or to their game day

All modern days coaches back in their game plan and structures to the point that they fear that moving away from this creates the perception that their strategy is not good enough to get the job done

All coaches are stubborn and only the success coaches survive

So hang on to our old guys because we might not get anyone?
I have never said that and definitely was not insinuating that.

Just saying that culling does not automatically equate to a premiership. The original thought was that Pyke should do what Blight did because it worked for Blight. I was saying there is more to it than that.

You chose our 5 worse performances and we won 17 games the same as 2006 with a less superior midfield and defence.

Look mate, if you believe that making up the numbers consistently without threatening for a premiership is acceptable for a club of our size then nothing I can say to you is there.
