It just amazes me to hear Essendrones telling Port to hurry up and move on a deal for Ryder.

Port trying, Essendon stalling
Port Adelaide and Essendon were no closer to reaching any deal for Paddy Ryder, after the Bombers' weekend decision not to release him as a free agent.
A number of scenarios involving other clubs, pick exchanges and Power players have been thrown up and discussed, but the Bombers have not been receptive to any of them. Both Essendon and North Melbourne are interested in Adam Cooney, but neither club had put a satisfactory offer to the Bulldogs midfielder by Monday night and he was still considering his options.

Lloyd was on 3AW today, thought he was quite pragmatic and realistic about the situation. Didn't say he knew any specifics of a deal other than a lot happens in the final few hours of trade week and that Essendon would be silly to not get something for him. Threw up the names Moore and O'Shea in addition to pick 17. I personally think we'll get him for 17 and our 2nd round pick (35).

Guys, good work on this thread... Compared to the Flat Earth Society (aka Essen-drug-cheats-pun) parallel universe thread, this should win a Pulitzer.

For serious. Their GAGF attitude towards PAFC and they refuse other team supporters to post, yet will happily put their 3 cents in here.

You are talking about EFC fans as a collective, not all their supporters have delusions of grandeur :D

Ryder is worth pick 17 no more . In any case we may use 35 on Gorringe.

I would sooner have Gorringe and keep pick 35 than use both 17 and 35 on a 27 year old facing a possible drugs ban.

I think a lot of people are overrating Gorringe on this board. Ryder is still only 26, early 27 next season. Sure, he'll be out for likely 6 months, but that isn't going to deter Port from going after him, given his talent and how he fits the team. It's fairly obvious that Hinkley wants to play with Lobbe as the main ruck, with a secondary ruck in the forward line to let Westhoff roam. Gorringe is not a KPF, nor do I think he is capable of commanding a best 22 position on our list. More than likely, if we didn't get a trade done for him this off-season, we'll get him next season.

Our premiership window is open right now. Time to go after players who are going to add to our list right away. That being said, I still hope we land Gorringe, I think in 2-3 years time he'll be a handy ruck, but at this stage he's just a depth signing and wouldn't add to our list. Truth be told if Lobbe went down and we had to go with Gorringe as the #1 ruck, I'd be quietly shitting myself.

I think 17 is enough for Ryder with all the B.S that comes with him and the doubt over just what sort of ban if any he might have to serve.
I would not want to give up our second round pick or any player /players.
I guess if a player came out and said he wanted to go back to Melbourne and would accept a trade to Essendon then and only then would i think of packaging that player with pick 17.
I don't want any players forced out to a bumhole bunch like Essendon.
I am also confident that our present coaching team would not be a part to this sort of dealings.
The deal will get done but as normal it will be a last day deal, i hope the club are also trying hard to secure other players that will improve our list.

Will be completed Wednesday at 3pm
More like 3pm Thursday.

They will stonewall us until 1.55pm Thursday and then take what they can get, just like the Crameri trade. Their aim is to try and scuttle any other trades we might get done. Incredibly vindictive group.

If Ryder was out for 6 months and Lobbe went down and we didn't have Gorringe on the list, would you be shitting any more or less? Apologies if that sounds sarcastic, it isn't meant that way.

I can see a theoretical possibility we might go #17 and the 2nd rounder "with some adjustments" to get Ryder done and then hop straight to a 3rd rounder for Lowden or Grimley deal ie insurance/longer term development rucks. But I see a bigger possibility that Essendon's pig headedness lands them a big fat 0. Where is the "shakes head" emoticon?

My thinking as well. Although I hope we'll press forward with other trades if need be and leave 17 for Essendon on a 'take it or leave it' basis. 'Reasonable and good faith' has its limits.

They are - they even cut off their nose to spite their face by not getting 17 and 21 by making him a delisted free agent.

I'm still super guarded on this one. I'm not keen on having two important well paid players on the list serving bans.
Depends on the length of the ban. If they only miss the first 6-8 weeks next year it could work out quite well for us. As soon as we start getting some sore bodies we'll have a fit and firing Gus and Paddy ready to be injected (sorry) into the team for the second half of the season.

Of course they could get longer bans and then yes, I agree, it would pose a bit of an issue. I think we have sufficient cover for Monfries though, and whilst Ryder is quite a unique player, I think a fit Redden will more than make do as Lobbe's wingman.

On balance I say take the chance. Worst case scenario we'll have them raring to go for 2016.

Not sure it'd work with Cooney, by the sounds of things Essendon could get him with their third without our help. The key is finding somebody like Giles who they might not be able to get without our help.
Cooney choosing Essendon could help us going by this:

But the Dons could only afford him if they trade out Patrick Ryder and the Roos haven’t given up hope on Travis Varcoe, who is still likely to get to Collingwood.
