Depends on the length of the ban. If they only miss the first 6-8 weeks next year it could work out quite well for us. As soon as we start getting some sore bodies we'll have a fit and firing Gus and Paddy ready to be injected (sorry) into the team for the second half of the season.

Of course they could get longer bans and then yes, I agree, it would pose a bit of an issue. I think we have sufficient cover for Monfries though, and whilst Ryder is quite a unique player, I think a fit Redden will more than make do as Lobbe's wingman.

On balance I say take the chance. Worst case scenario we'll have them raring to go for 2016.
Agree. For the first half of 2014 we had only Lobbe and Monfries was mainly on the sideline so why should the first half of 2015 be any different. The main problem was the later loss of Trengove and Carlile and that Lobbe was starting to feel the burden of all the ruck towards the end of the year. And if Redden is fit that should not be a problem next year.

I haven't posted any trade scenarios all year.

WBD out: Cooney, 26, 27
WBD in: 17

ESS in: Cooney, Giles, 26, 27
ESS out: Ryder

PA in: Ryder
PA out: 17, 37

GWS in: 37
GWS out: Giles

Two first 22-players and two second round draft picks for Ryder?

Ahhh, I remember when the initial story about Ryder wanting to leave (to Brisbane) came up, and on 360, he was like "ok Brisbane, you want Ryder, give us (pick) 4 and Aish."

I think he's great for 360, but when it comes to talking about Essendon, specifically player movement, he turns into one of the mob on the Essendon board at Big Footy :)

This uses slightly more than half the allowable characters for a single tweet. So why the "Ess" the "grieve" and the "trib"?
Be kind to Robbo. He's probably onto his second six pack when he tweeted that :D

I think a lot of people are overrating Gorringe on this board. Ryder is still only 26, early 27 next season. Sure, he'll be out for likely 6 months, but that isn't going to deter Port from going after him, given his talent and how he fits the team. It's fairly obvious that Hinkley wants to play with Lobbe as the main ruck, with a secondary ruck in the forward line to let Westhoff roam. Gorringe is not a KPF, nor do I think he is capable of commanding a best 22 position on our list. More than likely, if we didn't get a trade done for him this off-season, we'll get him next season.

Our premiership window is open right now. Time to go after players who are going to add to our list right away. That being said, I still hope we land Gorringe, I think in 2-3 years time he'll be a handy ruck, but at this stage he's just a depth signing and wouldn't add to our list. Truth be told if Lobbe went down and we had to go with Gorringe as the #1 ruck, I'd be quietly shitting myself.
o_O

Evidence to back up these thoughts. Or do you can all 22 year old ruckmen who have had persistent injuries since being drafted and have been part of a sub-standard development program? By the same measures you would no doubt have delisted Lobbe???

Because TGO can do whatever the bloody hell he likes.

you need to read the Cult of a Robbo thread on the main board to understand.

Exactly how does Christensen for 21 support Robbo's argument?
Answer, it doesn't. Teams will generally trade with what they have and will not bring another club into it. Brisbane had 21 so that was what they gave Geelong for Christensen. If Hawthorn had been after him and they hadn't snared O'Rourke they would have offered 19. And I'm sure if we were interested in him we would have offered 17.

But if St Kilda wanted him I wouldn't expect them to offer their first round pick, Geelong would probably be satisfied with their second-round pick.

Essendon could learn a lot from the bulldogs. Griffen announces he wants to leave and within a weekend the bulldogs have counter poached Tom Boyd. That's impressive and bold from a smaller club supposedly down in the dumps.
