Essendon could learn a lot from the bulldogs. Griffen announces he wants to leave and within a weekend the bulldogs have counter poached Tom Boyd. That's impressive and bold from a smaller club supposedly down in the dumps.
Yea the difference is players are practically lining up to leave GWS. Essendon have zero chance of poaching one of our players, and they know it.

Reports cooney wants to get to bummers, 17 + cooney to bombers? And we satisfy digs for cooney? Still won't be enough for druggies but another trade to try
With what? I have not heard what the Doggies would take for Cooney. He is a Brownlow Medalist and come off a reasonable season so he wouldn't come cheap.

So what happens if Essendon don't let him leave? Is there are grievance tribunal still available or he has to play for them or sit out of footy?
I am sure the AFL won't want hi to sit out or retire.

I believe he can nominate for the pre-season draft as his contract will terminated if he is successful

I think this is bound for the grievance tribunal. Essendon are too invested in this now, don't want to be seen to be repeating the same failed tactics as last year with crameri. I don't think Port can/will up the offer. It appears we've done our best to get a third party involved but nothing seems to satisfy the bummers. Fingers crossed Paddy has success there. I'd just love to see it be successful, obviously for Port to gain a great player for free but also as a big wake up call to Essendon, its list manager and its supporters - 17 on the table was fair when we could get him for free!

If he is released from his contract by the Grievance Tribunal he becomes a Delisted Free Agent and can transfer direct to the club of his choice in one of the DFA periods. There is no need for the pre-season draft.

The issue then becomes if Essendon take him to court for breach of contract.

This is the key.

We've publicly stated we've tried our pick 17 with several players thrown in but the Bombers haven't been interested in anyone we've thrown up, and on top of that we've even included players from other clubs in our attempts to get the deal done. I can only assume all these newer names like Giles, Cooney and Lowden that have been linked to the Bombers are other players we are trying to incorporate into the deal.

At the end of the day though, if we've tried our best to get Essendon a fair deal which is around the pick 17 and an AFL ready fringe player, then there is not much else we can do. This is the most we can offer, and more importantly it is probably all we can muster given who might actually be silly enough to head to Essendon.

So really from here it is actually up to Essendon to take what they know we CAN offer and try to extract some extra value out of it. If they cant do that then they take the best we can offer and move on, or they lose Ryder for free at the end of trade period.

It'll get done. He won't play for Essendon, so they'll take the best offer that we've put in front of them and cut their loses.
Collingwood folded on Beams which they were never going to do but they rate Crisp.Essendon are a bit more stupid though as they are always the victim never the villain.
