Coaching Staff Former Coach Ben "Truck" Rutten - Sacked for real this time - 21/8

Not too disappointed with this.

Considering his family situation, Worsfold wasn't going to be here after 2020. He has stabilised the club after ASADA, and has spent this year and will spend next helping Rutten transition into the senior coach job. We've got Caracella coming in, so it looks like the club is doing what it can to give Truck the best possible chance to succeed. We now need to find the best possible High Performance team that will build up our players strength and fitness, and competently manage their injuries.

Rutten has experienced success as an assistant coach, and building good relationships with the players is one of his biggest strengths. He's young and motivated, and is not a favourite son.

The easiest thing to do was go for the safe, conservative option and hire Ross Lyon. But I'm happy that the club is taking a risk with Rutten. It might not work out, but atleast they are trying something new, rather than going the conservative option like they usually do.

Kinda seems like Rutten has been coaching on match day for half the season anyway tbh.
yeah... except for the bulldogs- that was 100% Woosha.

Ben Rutten has today been named as John Worsfold’s successor when he hands over the reins to the senior coaching position at the end of 2020.

Worsfold will continue to lead the Bombers next season, with Rutten serving as senior assistant coach in 2020 as part of the 12-month transition plan, before assuming the top job for 2021 on a three-year contract.

Following a recommendation from football director Sean Wellman and chief executive officer Xavier Campbell, the board formally ratified the appointment yesterday.

It's now official.

What exactly has Rutten done for us to have such confidence in him?

Probably a difficult question for a bunch of nuffies on a football forum to answer, but we sure are putting a lot of faith in him.
I could’ve saved myself some angst this season and just watched this 23 times instead!

Last time we had the TRB we almost got deregistered from the competition, and had a caretaker coach who was probably using on game day. Looking forward to seeing how we can 1 up this.

And yet everyone's happy to have Caracella back.
Interesting observation, but I think most are happy about Caracella because of his experience and proven track record, rather than him being a past player.

Probably the best nearly deregistered side in the history of the AFL. Still, only a real nuffy would question the club's management decisions....

Transition the Senior coach out over 12 (and possibly 18 months in reality) - what could the problems be??? Ever worked for a manager that's leaving? It's a strange feeling. Times that by a whole club (and an already flakey playing group) for 12 months and consider the possible ramifications.

How can Rutten be the coach in waiting with no apparent succession plan?

What happens when Worsfold starts answering questions about 2021?

Created a rod for our own backs.

The gutless twats on the board deserve the scrutiny.

Or we come out and win the first 10 then everyone will be like why change coach.

Better to observe the guy closely for a year than just rely on an interview process.
