Man u
i hope this means we are only going after one big name player. We still need to be bringing through kids.

Hopefully just some HS clown trying to make a story :o.

What is wrong with continuing down the path we have already begun to travel. Realistically who are we going to secure for next season that is of any use? Most clubs have already secured there essential players and only fringe players will be available.

Boak (overrated a tad), Dangerfield & Sidebottom are apparently unsigned but we have been burnt too many times in the recent past to take this option again. Is Boak any better than Nathan Brown? Dangerfield or Sidebottom vs McMahon?

We need only look at Nason to see there are gems out there, not waste high draft selections on a player is not wanted or worse willing to leave his current club to another AFL club for more money.

C'mon RFC get out of your office and get out to the minor leagues and find the next Nason, Barlow or J Pod.

Sorry dude, but you cannot compare Dangerfield to McMahon. Dangerfield is one of Adelaides marquee players, whereas McMahon is lingering in the VFL. Dangerfield is a proven commodity and rumour has it that Adelaide could entice him to stay with the captaincy next season.

McMahon was spud, we all knew it. It was just TW looking after his mate. Browny would have been one of the best trades ever if he hadn't broken his leg. Guy was best player in the comp in 2005 up to that point.

The big difference between boak, dangerfield and sidebottom is they are still very young and all first round draft picks who their clubs do not want to lose. If they were discards like hislop and collard yeah then you have to question the clubs sanity. But these kids are all proven at AFL level.

Why is there anything wrong with recruiting players from other clubs?

Sure, I'm with you that we should NOT be trading away early picks - particularly in the current compromised draft environment - but if we have cash to burn and can entice a high quality player from another club to fill a gap in our structure and/or provide tutelage to our younger players, I'm all for it. Just as long as it doesn't prevent us from picking up good young players.

i hope that we're not going against the no shortcuts that hardwick promised

if we are trading/drafting like that i'd rather we went for a couple of bigger bodied players, to help some of our little guys walk a bit taller when they're getting knocked around by a geelong or sydney midfield. that being said, dangerfield and boak are talent, and importantly still young enough.

hopefully we can achieve what we want through the PSD and rookie draft (if GC leave anything worth taking), and keep using our ND picks on kids.

I don't mind spending the big bucks to try and get a good player to richmond but not if it means we have to trade away our high draft picks. Just because you got the cash doesn't mean they're definately going to walk. A trade still has to be done or the player has to go through the PSD to get to us. If the RFC start trading high picks to secure a player or two coz we got cash then aren't we just following down the Wallace path all over again?

We will be trading players for picks which we can use on other players!

Fingers crossed hawks or gold coast give us a good pick for a key back.

If we got Dangerfield to the Tigers:eek::eek::eek:

Can someone please post the whole article the HS is not coming up on my computer...

Here it is...

I hope we use our power to get young guys who are going to be massive stars, rather than guys who are massive stars.

Dangerfield, Knights and guys to that caliber, who are young, fresh and still need to develop are the kind of players we should be aiming for.

I have faith in our many developers, recruiters and coaches that they will pick up some worthy picks.

Everyone needs to stop worrying about trading our high picks. We won't do it. Hardwick has said he will build with youth, and that isn't TW spin.

Clubs just won't trade early picks except of out and out stars of the comp like Judd, and he was underpriced, or if they are a shot at a premiership like collingwood. The fan backlash would be too great.

The value of an early draft pick isn't just a potential superstar it's marketing the brand. So as good as boak, dangerfield and sidebottom are, and they are all very very good. We won't be offering early draft picks except the ones we trade for.

Cheers mate.

Sounds like a bit of a bullshit article but I still love reading the trade stuff.

Would be interested to know how much in X dollars we have available....

Would have to be a fair bit. Couldn't imagine Richo, Bowden, Johnson, Brown, Simmonds and McMahon not taking up a large chunk of cap, veteran's list or otherwise. And not many of our youngsters would command a hell of a lot, with Lids and Cotch only the real tie-downs recently???

When you look at the list, it would be more of a case of "how the hell do we hit the 92.5% minimum?"

I'm not too sure of the wisdom of going for a big name at this stage. Sure we have plenty in the cap but won't we need this in the not to distant future to keep our homegrown players?

It's also better from a supporters perspective to see players come through our system not just jump ship from another club. Not sure how we would get Boak or Dangerfield for money. You would think both their clubs would have a bit of room in the cap. Not that I wouldn't mind either of these guys. Both quality and Boak especially is a sure thing. Boak, Martin, Foley, Cotch we would almost have the best clearance midfield in the comp.

At the very worst hopefully March's talk drives up the prices of these players forcing whoever gets them to pay through the nose.

Yeah, its about time we got on the front foot, after having Dusty's price talked up.

To meet the min salary cap, do you play the younger players more than they would normally have gotten paid, or do you bring in the marquee player (and the required payment), and risk upsetting the young group coming through together. I'd say that depends on who, how much, and what do we need to do, for the marquee player.

I don't think we will be going after marquee...but talented players like Brown from WC and Vezpremi from Sdney.

Personally I would throw a decent offer at Jackson Trengove that the Blues cannot match and would also give Vezpremi a good offer.

Essentially I see Vezpremi as a quality FP/HFF in the mould of Nathan Brown.

Cutting to the chase dudes the bottom line is that the player we go for has to be of the Paddy Ryder variety. Forget medium to small players, we need Ryder types who have the added bonus of age and games udner their belt. ;)

Richmond have signalled their intent to launch massive post-season recruiting raids in a Gold Coast-affected trade market.

My interpretation of this is that we will be trying to find kids at the new clubs. Trading away some of our older players who might be of value to the new teams (eg. McGuane). There will be a lot of kids at the new teams that won't get a chance. Especially if they get guys like Ablett.

We will only be going for a marquee player if the price is right.

Phillip Walsh Board........i suppose we have the tins we can rattle somewhere at punt road ...maybe we can ask neville crowe to help again.

I can see us doing a Polak type trade with a club trying to upgrade a pick....

This trade period will be interesting. It's strange the club has come out already... I suppose we want managers knocking on our door early.
