Only just over a week until our 1st 'official' practice match after an impressive hitout against the Dogs. Hopefully we see a few senior players come in to give us some chance against Geelong in Geelong as its been slim pickings for us for a long time down there..

Probably available: Durham, McKay, Gresham, Lav, Cox..??

Possible team;-

Reid McKay McGrath
Redman Hayes Shiel
Martin Tsatas Duursma
Gresham Caddy Langford
Kako Draper Edwards

Bryan Caldwell Merrett

Bench from: Durham Hobbs Lav Perkins SEH Roberts Prior Cox

Hopefully a team like that can be competitive - pretty much full strength with the exception of probably Ridley & Parish

Good to see young Edward's show case his talent.....I reckon he could be another under the radar surprise packet for Essendon....in the mould of former Subi boy Martin. Edward's loves a speccy, and when on song can kick a few quick ones to impact a quarter/game.

The Swan District fans in the WAFL are going to miss Tommy, if Essendon do pull the trigger and draft him. A fan favourite for them, as he brings a bit of excitement to every contest he is at. Good luck to the kid if drafted, as I think he will win over a few of the Essendon clan pretty quickly.

pre season games vs Geelong give me PTSD at this point
Geelong gives me PTSD. We compete with them in the preseason every year as if we stand a chance and they always destroy us in the real season and end our year. People always want to make think pieces about why our season derails but it's pretty simple. It ends after we play Geelong.

At this point I just want Geelong in round 1 so that we know early whether the season is worth watching.

Agree, Geelong is very triggering.
But at this point so is litterally every other team except for north Melbourne.

He’s already won me over.

You'll know our season is over by Tuesday week.

He looks like an absolute ripper. Does he always play with that level of poise? Absolute steal if so.

That left foot snap he did on the weekend was delicious. What a find.

Should be focusing in on the likely 26 in the R0 squad. For me:

McGrath - McKay - Prior
Redman - Reid - Shiel
Martin - Caldwell - Duursma
Perkins - Caddy - Gresham
Kako - Draper - Langford
Bryan - Merrett - Durham
Ridley - Roberts - Tsatas - Menzie
El-Hawli - Wright - Hobbs - Jones

Watched some highlights of the Geelong vs Hawthorn game and I'll be very surprised if we get close.

I think we can match their midfield even with the addition of Smith, but we'll really struggle at both ends. We can forget about restricting their scoring or stopping their transition and we'll struggle to score. Perfect recipe for the usual capitulation.

We actually played okay in patches against them last year. It is the regular season games we have a problem with.

It’s ridiculous to say, but I feel like this game means just a lot more than just a standard practice game. A win isn’t necessary per se, but at a minimum, you’d want to watch believing this is an effort that is worthy of the regular season. I can’t remember the last time that we came out of the pre-season games feeling truely positive out of what we’ve seen.

100% playing the strongest line-up possible, although if there’s a line ball call between a player not being 100% fit, no risks should be taken.

Shame it’s a Tuesday night, would have loved to take the kids down!
