What business do USA have in other parts of the world???

Now its china, will they once again kill innocent civilians like they did in vietnam? will they bomb schools like they did in yugoslavia??

USA you money hungry bastards!!

Keep out of other ppl's business or your shithouse of a country will pay one day, rememeber china, cuba, russia and yugoslavia all have nuclear powers!

The pathetic thing is, australia send troops to help them!

of course we send troops to help out the US. We have to under the ANZUS treaty!

A bit of a generalisation, really.

I'd have trouble living with my seppo missus if she made me sick.

In fact she's grouse, a real top sort.

The fact that she can't stand the way the USA conducts external (and some internal) business, is only a plus for her, in my eyes :D

Refer country Vic rail system.

QT, I misjudged you, I thought you were fairly intelligent, sure the USA has faults, so do we, but I am damn sure I'd prefer to be on their team rather than be under control of the Commies.

There was a quote, from before the Boxer rebellion, it was along the lines of:-
"Let China sleep, for when she awakens, the world will tremble"

Many mistakes have been made in dealing with China, by USA, and China, but make no mistake. she is a power with a different set of morals, values and standards from which you, QT, currently enjoy. Also study what was happening in WW2, Churchill was prepared to let Australia be over-run by the Japanese, just to keep the Australian troops in the war theatre engaged against the Germans. John Curtin did not allow that to happen, but without the aid from USA, we would have been invaded by the Japanese. The differences in our culture was very evident to the Asian culture in World War 2, add those cultural changes to a huge nuclear power, well, goodnight Dick.

Study the reasons USA dropped the bombs on Japan in WW2, you will find it makes interesting reading, the target for 'messages' was then Russia, for USA thought that Sun Yat Sen was going to hold power in China. The fact that Sun Yat Sen was a ruthless dictator was irrelevant, here emerges Mao Tse Tung, who led through the doctrine of communism. In actual fact he proved to be one of history's worst butchers, the untold stories will hardly ever see light of day because of China's Closed Door policy.
Teiujamin (sp sorry) square was just a picnic for the Chinese leaders, look today at their actions against free speech.

So QT, do not speak to me of how horrible USA is.

Well as some of you know, I will be moving to the US sometime in the coming months, and I have to disagree with QT's comments to an extent. YES I am disgusted with the way the US does some things, like the current situation with China, this does not however make Americans as a whole, bad people. My partner for instance, voted for the other guy, and completely disagrees with half the government's decisions. He is fantastic regardless, as are many Americans. :) And well, I may well become a citizen who knows, but I will always be an AUSSIE no matter where I live!!!!!!! :) You can take the girl out of Melbourne.......but you can never take Melbourne out of the girl. :D GO LIONS. :D lol

I find it really upsetting when Australians feel compelled to bag Americans purely because it's "cool" to do so. They're the most powerful nation on Earth, why shouldn't we bag em, right? They're a faceless monolith, not individual people.

While this may be true in some cases (and yes, Corporate America gives me the runs too), every American I've met so far, including my partner, has been friendly, rational and open-minded.

I wish I could say the same about Australians with this attitude towards Americans.

Anyway, I digress....

Wow... I've been following some of your posts Lioness, but I guess I missed that one. Congratulations! How's all the immigration stuff going? I'm in the same boat as you so I've read up a lot on immigration law. If you need a hand with any of it, feel free to contact me.

I feel no obligation to defend myself or my nationality since everyone else has done so very adequately.

I think because of our position in the grand scheme that we feel like we have to become the policeman of the world. There's both good and bad in that. Maybe if we didn't have so much corruption within our own government that it wouldn't be such a bad thing. Sometimes we forget that we need to police ourselves from time to time.

I do wonder why all the lashing out at us all of a sudden. Everyone seems to be taking the side of China.

I argue the insinuation that Aussies generally bag everything American.

I bag a lot of things American, but I would call myself a minority, especially for my age group (I'm around 30, ahh to hell with it, I'm a round 30).

Seems to me that Aussies generally lap up everything American. Fashion, for instance, is all too often based on Hollywood's manufacture OF American fashion.

The missus )a yank) tells me that she has noticed Aussies seem to be more fashion-conscious here, than in the states. Our assumption is because Aussies are basic their Jonesesque responsibilites on what they see on the idiot box. I suppose I should qualify this, though, as the missus lived in Marin, which is quite laid-back for the US.

When it comes to flicks, I am forever pooh-poohed for even mentioning that I saw an aussie (or kiwi) movie. For the majority, it has to be a Hollywood production (same thing that king-hit our movie industry in the 40s, and its been a long time resuscitating).

Considering that most if this stuff is so shallow you could walk across it comfortably in bunny slippers, it seems almost certain that there is a kow-tow attitude in place that isn't going anywhere in a hurry. This is particularly disappointing seeing as the USA has a great movie springboard in Sundance, that goes largely ignored over here.

Having said that, its time for a generalisation of my own : The loudmouth yanks that deter Aussies so much are probably the New Yorkers. Can I just bag them? It seems like a fun pigeonholing :D

Exactly - I couldn't agree more. That's the flipside of the America-bashing problem. Sometimes we seem to be in danger of becoming "little America", with many Aussies taking in everything they have to offer and nothing of our own.

Seems we've both had very different experiences, Mob... I've been bagged for taking in various parts of American culture by my sister who can be quite anti-American, often just because it's the trendy way to be. I've been surrounded more by these kind of people than the kind you've experienced, which is even worse... the anti-Australian "we're embarrassing dags on the arse of the world" group. I'm stunned you've actually been paid out for seeing an Australian flick! What kind of Aussie would do that? I guess it's people like that who fuel the anti-American fire.

Not surprisingly though, I'm now even more patriotic to Australia since being immersed into Stealth's family and American culture. It's made my ties to this great land of ockers and VB even stronger.

And I'm with you. Blame the New Yorkers :)

Nothing wrong with Americans as individuals. I've have plent of American friends who are as warm, friendly, and generous as anyone else that I've ever met in the world. To slag off someone for simply being American is as stupid as any other form of racism in the world. Take people as individuals and you'll lead a richer life for it.

My only disagreement with the United States are some (NOT ALL) aspects of their foreign policy, but as a few people here have pointed out, just because someone is American, it doesn't mean that they agree with what their government does.

America sucks. So does Australia. All English speaking countries' governments suffer from the same basic faults. Australia just doesn't have armed forces big enough to push anyone around.

How many aboriginals got wiped out after the English 'discovered' Australia?

I know if war ever broke out in Asia, id be welcoming the fact that Uncle Sam is our friend and not foe. The poor buggers are alright, its not really there fault there stupid electoral system allowed George Bush to become President, hopefull that will be corrected in four years time

Oh of course, it must be the English speaking countries.

Hats off to the lucky non-western places where there's been no violent oppression, such as China, Russia, Uganda, etc.

That's a hell of an annoying trait QT, you start an aggressive thread, and then disappear into the woodwork.
At least stand up against the people, including me, who disagree with you!!!
