well no clubs wanted to trade for him, stuff we'l give him a pay rise. box of tissues good call mate think of that one all by yourself did ya?
i'm merely highlighting the childish stubbornness of your arguments regarding the money paid to certain swans players....you seem to have chosen one very narrow path to wander down, and you refuse to consider any other positions, as indicated by your comments regarding our fellow poster scottwade....
if i've gotten anything wrong, forgive me

Well you guys are kidding yourselves Jolly would not be in the top 10 ruckmen in the league, I don't care how many hit outs he gets it's how many are to advantage, Jolly is a good 2nd ruckmen thats it!

yeah, you're right, those darn hitouts, especially the ones to advantage, are just completely irrelevant for a ruckman and his team
i can see now why you think we should've kept schneider, you see him filling that important first ruck spot, obviously

Leave Schneider out of it. This debate is about Jolly,s ruck ability and his rumored payrise.I said im off his back and not bagging him anymore in an earlier post, but the way your going on its as if your his wife or manager in cognito!!!Wake up and smell the roses.Plenty of Swans supporters have got the same opinion as mj23 including me.He has been insipid in big games that count.Cox pisses himself every time he comes up against him and his opinion of himself is alot higher than his capabilities. You reckon his a good ruckmen worth 4 years and the rumored 500k how come the worst ruckmen in the AFL in Guy Richards took him apart in yet another big game ?If he wanted to go back to Melbourne they should have let him go and set up a trade, then thrown the cheque book at Jamie Charman and then all of a sudden youve got value for money and a ruckman with BALLS !!!!!!!!

you people having a crack at jolly are amazing
go back and have a look at the tape of that game and then try and tell me jolly was our worst player
he wasn't even our worst ruck, everitt was pretty darn ordinary too (watch how shocking his timing was at the centre bounces)
but we lost that game largely because our defence was mistake-riddled, indecisive and weak, and our forwards (as was the case all season) were erratic and soft
c'wood did not win BECAUSE of richards and bryan
i'm the first to concede neither jolly nor everitt were much good on the day, and i also concede jolly was way out of touch in the 06 grand final, but you're making him out to be the root of all our troubles, and your sycophantic mate MJ23 (airhead jordan?) seems to be compounding that by blaming jolly for everything that happened during trade week that he personally didn't like
as for the pay rise, basing an argument on a "rumoured" amount is pretty shaky but the fact is, as far as our team structure goes for the next few seasons, either we paid jolly what he was asking for the four years or we went into 08 with a 34yo everitt and a coupla kids who have yet to play a senior game between them....oh, and poor old stephen doyle
without going back and scrupulously checking all previous posts, i don't think it was me that linked jolly and schneider in this thread
but i will say (again) that we have far more hope of being a contender next season with jolly but without schneider than we would have going in without jolly
i'm not connected to jolly in any way (apart from a 30-second lift ride with he and his wife and baby about 12 months ago) but i can't fathom the animosity you and your pal have towards him
as for failing in big matches, what a crock....he stood up in the 05 finals series and was outstanding against aaron sandilands in the 06 preliminary final at the scg, when sandilands was sposed to be fremantle's big weapon against us

it's also safe to say dean cox would fancy his chances individually against any ruckman going around

ouch, yeah, got me....your mum's really helped you out here
I never said that scneider was an out and out star but he probally would have still kicked around 30 goals and probally averaged just as many touches as most of our midfielders. Jolly is not a CLASS ruckman that can allegedly command money and 4 year contracts I would have shown him the door and had a crack at Cameron Wood and jus have him as a second ruckman to Everitt for next year.

whether it be this topic or any other, you cannot base an argument on "probably would have"
and as for averaging as many touches as most of our midfielders, i'd challenge that, i don't think schneider would get near the amount of touches per game as kirk, j bolton, goodes, buchanan, fosdike, even ROK or malceski, etc....and stats don't tell the whole story anyway
i have always been a fan of schneider, at his best he is an explosive, game-breaking small forward
i had always hoped he would develop into a classy, line-breaking midfield runner but he played what was it? five season with us (injuries curtailed seasons two and three) and has never given indications he could get fit enough to play that role, he certainly can't run out a game like the best of our midfielders, or even the likes of buchanan and jude bolton, who with schneider were the three small mid types put on the table in trade week
schneider was/is just too inconsistent, and when you list him as the main forward option of those three, a goal-kicker, his all too frequent misses in front of goal considerably reduce his value to our side

as for cam wood, he's 21 and was overtaken as No 2 or even No 3 in the ruck rankings at brisbane by a 19yo (leuenberger) and a crock (mcdonald), so it's hypothetical anyway whether he'll be any good at all....jolly, at 26, still has scope for development/improvement, wood is totally unproven and collingwood will hope to fast-track him if they are to confirm their status (in my opinion) as the obvious challenger to geelong in the immediate future

look, i'll admit part of my need to vent in these threads is a) the ridiculously over-the-top outpuring of grief and near-mourning for the loss of schneider (and subsequent link to darrn jolly's alleged pay demands), and b) the extremely harsh criticism levelled at paul roos for making decisions EVERY club and coach have to make every season
i'm hoping (and that's all it is) roos will be vindicated during 08

Sorry my mistake your not his wife and your not his manager,so you must be Paul Roos. For your information coach. In the prelim final 06 Sandilands was double teamed all night and also had a third man up on alot of occasions at the stoppages.Outstanding ?I dont think so and by the way i dont think you should have a right to comment on that particular game as according to your goodself in your last post, you were at the SCG,when in actual fact the game was played at Telstra Stadium. Please sure to be at the right arena when giving a summation of an individuals performance or your judgement can become somewhat cloudy !!!!!!!!!

But, in all fairness, doyle's really injury prone, so talking reasonably we'd have been left with everitt and currie for the better part of the year.
The ruck supplies the ball to the midfield, so, the disadvantage our ruck experiences with jolly (as mj23 makes out) will be multiplied by 12354755686 if we operate with just everitt and currie.

sighhhh, yes, you're right, it was telstra, silly me....i didn't actually say i was there, but as it turns out i was
so sandilands was double-teamed....by whom? pretty sure one of them was jolly, not sure if jolly and doyle were on the field at the same time very often, so i'm guessing they didn't do much double-teaming together
fact is, whether it was double-teaming or whatever tactic was used, jolly stood up, did his job, lived up to the big occasion, he can do only his best, and he did it that night

and can't you do better than that puerile sarcasm, it just cheapens anything you have to say
cheers, signed: roosy

i was on the far side of the pram, but both darren and his wife seemed really happy...and tired

i think the other factor we have to take into account is everitt's longevity, i thought he finished 07 looking a bit scratchy, i'm sure he'll be fine after a break but with an increased workload in the absence of jolly, his body would be at far greater risk of breaking down
then we'd be left with TWO crocks and a rookie
which again backs up jolly's case for a rise and an extended deal
i just can't see the reasoning in any argument against jolly's retention under our club's circumstances going into trade week

How touching. Why dont you apply for the job as the babys nanny then you can be a little closer to Darren or is an autograph and a smile enough ?As far as sarcasm cheapening anything i say.I march to the beat of one drum and thats my own.Ive played with you for long enough with this and am losing interest to be honest.Keep having your opinion though.i admire that. But try not to be so hypocritical when posting as mj23 has pointed out in THE SHOPPING LIST THREAD. If only Darren knew what you were saying about him.Swap him for Brad Miller.Shame!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:(

an autograph?
you've played with me, now you're off to play with yourself, is that it?

i never said jolly was untouchable, and if the right offer had come along, i'd have accepted what was done, that's the business of modern football
i maintain brad miller would have brought something to our team and yes, we would then have had to look at our ruck stocks in another light, but had a deal been made on jolly, the circumstances of trade week would have been significantly changed for us
but que sera sera

you still haven't actually explained why you're so determined to continue this argument...i mean, you can't win....jolly's been re-signed, so all of this is just personal opinion and hypothetical debate, so this "playing with you for long enough" is more chest-beating than drum-beating

you march to the beat of your own drum....good grief
