Don't drop Cookie

The problem for Cook is he played as a small forward and kicked 3 goals from his limited chances... which is great... but how often will he kick 3 goals in a game? Once a season.

We have 2 players who fit that description (Farmer, Collard), and will undoubtedly fill that position better than Cook. When returning players return, who is going to make way? Only 3 players that played on the weekend aren't in our established side and they are Gilmore, Cook and Walker and they will be the first 3 dropped.

Webster has the hardness of Cookie but also has better disposal, agility and vision... so he will be selected ahead of Cook.

Cook is certainly handy in conditions like yesterday but if we are playing on a fast track like the Dome where it is inevitably going to be a shootout, then he will struggle to get selected.

We already have Webster and Solomon doing the grunt work around the HF line.

Yeah fair enough kenny... but he was inspired yesterday (and inspiring). And who doesn't love to see Cookie out there busting a gut for the team and for the jumper??

Who says James Walker is an automatic start?

Sorry to all the Walker fans, but he does some dumb things and can be frustratingly soft. I'd pick Webster over Walker 99 times out of 100.

As much as I love Cookie in the side his disposal lets him down and if it was dry I think Kiwi would of got the nod.Agree with the webster call, twice he ran a hundred metre(more or less) lead to a player with no where to go.

I dont care who you name in the squad, there is not a player in the team that puts his body on the line for the ball and his team mates like Troy Cook. Sheppards Tackles Smothers you name it he does it.

But i have a feeling that Troy is a "certain game" player, meaning he will always make way when we play fast, hard running types like the Dog's or Port but will be one of the first picked when its wet or we are playing Tough in and under teams like the Crows, Swans or Eagles. Which suits me just fine.

and please dont use his kicking as an excuse, 2 games 4 goals 0 behinds and he does hit targets around the ground.

P.S. a stat for you all, Troy Cook Ranked 1 in tackles per games played in 2007. He had TEN tackles playing out of the forward line, that is an amazing stat.

Grandson's sole strength is his foot-speed, but he barely seems to grab the thing and run anymore. Dropping him for either Warnock or Campbell seems like the way to go.

james walker shouldnt be bagged so harshly after every game.he comes on after the 10/15 minute mark of each qtr and is asked to do a job.sure sometimes his skills are a bit average at times however on most occasions he gets to positions on the ground to be effective. His pace is required on the wings and he shouldnt be used as a scapegoat by half the dockers fan on here.He was really good in the last qtr when the game was on the line he got the ball and was very effective with it. no need to change a winning formula.

Everyone loves Cookie. He lifts the team when he is on the ground. Everytime he smashes someone with a tackle or gets hold of the ball, I yell COOKIE!!! Love watching him play. Inspires the team and the crowd. Isn't that reason enough to keep him in?

P.S. how many times has he kicked 3 goals?

.

Not enough players shepard . Once they give the hand ball it should be automatic but if you watch they look at the handball and think that was great.

Did anyone see Ch10 news tonight where Hase called him "Wheelie Bin" cos he "just keeps rolling out"...?

:D :thumbsu: :D
Heheh :) I like that one.

Hase will be a great commentator/boundary rider when he eventually hangs up the boots.

He's got that genuine country-boy honesty, and is a truly funny bloke.

good to see the On The Couch team give Cookie such big wraps as well as Macca...Healy said he didnt tip Freo because he thought Cookie wasnt playing..

Yep Webster and Cookie (Monster) in every one of my teams, without a doubt. You can't teach players what they bring to the team, it's either in you or it's not.

If you put their hearts into most men's chest, it'd rattle them to pieces!

Well he can't be any worse than Banfield.

I mean seriously, how did Banfield get a contract? Don't they conduct interviews?

Don't get me started on Banners.

If he is not a poster child for the tragic "jobs for the ex-weagles" mentality of the WA media, I don't know who is......either Langon or Barra I guess.

My biggest fear is that when Hase retires some other monosyllabic ex-weagle with the personality of cardboard cut-out will have already be given the gig (I am assuming of course that Banners will be given the arse).

Knowing how the media works over here, we will probably be stuck with someone like Chick or Lynch!!

Don't laugh....it could happen.

Barra and Karl can atleast string a sentence together and have an opinion... Banners is ummmm pa ummmmm pathe ummmmmmm pathetic.

I remeber saying the exact same thing last year when we started out run...Cook makes a massive difference to the team.
The guy has his couple of clangers a game..But his tackling more than makes up for it and his hardness at the ball.

Hell..Headland makes as many Clangers without the hardness (Yes I realise on the whole his finess is far greater).

I am slowly being turned around on Webster..Perhaps there is hope for the guy.
Had Dunn been fit I would have said bring him in for Walker...

Collard into the team...We need a goal sneak

hey dudes, especially all those cookie doubters, remember playing Cookie every week co-incided with that nine game winning streak!

Who knows, I can't recall him ever being played as a small forward. Hes not a bad one on one mark and we know his defensive pressure is great. I personally found it refreshing to see a forward attack the goals instead of handballing around for someone in a better position only to lend up losing possession which happens with monotonous regularity.
If he plays as a forward we have the flexibility of him being able to move into the middle if need be, Hase, Bell and Cookie rotating out of the forward pocket sounds pretty good to me.:thumbsu:

Just looking at our player of the year award, cooky sitting in equal 5th position. Not bad for a guy who hasnt played every game.

5th? really? thqat is suprising. love cookie and macca, they have heart, they are hardened and more importantly loyal to the jumper. unfortunately though im not sure i could find either in my side. i know cookie was great on the weekend, and mcmanus has had a pretty good year. there comes a time where the youth must be blooded. there wont be a dry eye in the house when they retire though
